Seven Secret Spellcasters by Lynn Cahoon is a kitchen witch mystery and one of my favorite of her series. Mia Malone is not a full-fledged witch, yet, but she does own Mia’s Morsels, a catering firm. She bought an old and haunted school house where she lives and which houses her business. Her boyfriend, Trent, passed his powers down to his brother, Levi, but still retains some and so has been gifted a hell hound by the Goddess or someone, in the persona of a sweet Maltese. Cerby was sent away to hellhound training but it did not work out well. While he was there, in his loneliness he created a pet dragon, so he has come home to Magic Springs as well. Many of the witching community wonder why Trent as sent a hellhound, as he was no longer a witch so the national office sent someone to investigate: a half leprechaun who ended up dead a few days later. Found on Trent’s land, by Trent, you can imagine what the police thought.

This is a book full of great characters, too many to name, but entertaining. The town has many humans in it as well and so there are lots of misunderstandings and confusion which keep one’s attention. As if Mia doesn’t have enough to do right now with several family engagement parties, her qualifying test and investiture, and Halloween, which as you can imagine is big in Magic Springs. Meanwhile, her grandmother is in the library searching furiously for information on things that will make all of these strange happenings make sense. It turned out to be a human murder, not a magical one. Mia investigates and nearly finds herself in the soup. Trent is anxious to convince Mia to move in with him. There is so much going on. Hang tight to your hat!

Mia has so much going on in her life right now; her catering business is going well, she has a new boss at her day job, and her apprenticeship is up and she has to decide if she is joining the coven or not. Things are troubling for her boyfriend Trent, he is getting a visit from an investigator from the National Office of Magical Creatures due to his familiar Cerby. When Trent finds the investigator dead near his cabin he instantly becomes a suspect. Mia needs to clear his name not to mention keep up with her busy schedule. Follow along.and see if she can solve a murder, keep up with her job, stay on top of.her business, and make a choice about the coven. Will she be able to do everything and solve a murder at the same time?

There were quite a few changes going on since the last book, some of which I hadn’t even remembered reading about. When death caused the human and witchy worlds to kinda collide, Mia found herself sleuthing this case with the police chief Mark himself. Even with Trent nearby and the police protection, it was still inevitable Mia was gonna face off with a killer and as always come out victorious—with the help of some reinforcements.

Some of the changes were a little sad, but a new character was introduced and something about a couple characters was found out that was pretty cool. With the main mystery solved, there was something that happened at the end that definitely make me eager to dig into the next book!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book provided by Kensington Cozies via NetGalley, and my opinions are my own.

This is the 7th book in the series and by far my favorite book. I do not think this book could be read as a stand-alone book. I think that the reader would miss out on some exciting backstory, although the author does try to explain the backstory when needed.

As always, Mia has a lot on her plate. I would love to see her quit the catering job at the hotel but I think that adds to the story line and allows her to have “connections”. Mia’s magic and her involvement with the coven hasn’t been as prominent until this book. To me, that is what made this book so different from the past books. The story is take a turn and this book is setting up the stage for future books. Mia and gang need to find who murdered from the head of the magical office because Trent is a suspect!

All is well in the end, but something is brewing in Magic Springs!

Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Publishing for an advanced copy of this book.

While Mia is super busy with work, she finds herself having to find out who killed an investigator who came to explore Trent and Cerby. After all, Trent gave up his powers and yet the Goddess has sent him a hellhound. Between her personal life and her professional life, Mia finds that she surrounded by more witchcraft than even she had imagined. But her witchcraft save her. She digs deeper into the investigators death, or will it be a trap that finally is her undoing?

I don’t know how each book in the series is better than the last, because each and everyone is fabulous on a tone. The author manages to double down with each entry and I cannot help but come back for more every single time. As soon as I finish one book, I’m waiting for the next one to be released. The author really is that good.

I love Seven Secret Spellcasters and all of the Kitchen Witch series from Lynn Cahoon SO much. The 7th and newest of the series, brings us to Mia's certification as a witch and shifting of power. The anticipation of her testing isn't the only thing that has her in a sweat! She is discovering that many around her are witches too which makes life a little easier, but naturally other things arrive to make up for that. Cerby, the adorable Maltese, got lonely at familiar camp, so he called/created a friend just as the National Office of Magical Creatures sends someone to investigate the unusual circumstances of his arrival. It helps that his dragon buddy is little, at least for now! It doesn't help that a body is found on Trent's property.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Cozies for allowing me to read and share my enjoyment of Seven Secret Spellcasters. It is a joy to bring Lynn Cahoon's books to the attention of my friends and followers. Loved it, loved it, loved it!

SEVEN SECRET SPELLCASTERS is the seventh book in the Kitchen Witch Mysteries by Lynn Cahoon. With a fast-paced plot, this newest addition to the series kept me turning pages late into the night. The story is filled with magic, friendship, adorable pets—even a baby dragon!—and a murder to solve. Protagonist Mia Malone has a lot to juggle on top of taking her kitchen witch exams, and the last thing she needs is a body to turn up, and law enforcement turning their attention to her boyfriend, Trent, and his new dragon. The mystery itself is top-notch, but what grabs and keeps my attention are the characters and the surprising details of their magical abilities. While you could read this as a standalone for the mystery, starting with the first book is recommended since each book builds on the previous one. Plus, you’re going to want to get to know these wonderful characters and watch how they grow with each new discovery and trial they face. If you enjoy character-driven stories with dashes of magic, then you’ll love the Kitchen Witch Mysteries!

There is so much going on in this entry to the Kitchen Witch Mysteries! It is action-packed with some great new characters and all of the old favorites. Mia is getting ready to take her test to qualify as a certified kitchen witch. She is also planning engagement parties for Christina and Levi as well as her grandmother, Mary Alice and Robert. She is stressing herself over it all, then along comes an investigator to determine why Trent was given Cerby, who has adopted a pet of his own, baby dragon Buddy, oh yes she has a new boss at the Lodge! When Trent and Cerby find the investigator dead in the woods behind Trent's house, things heat up even more!
The characters in this series are all such fun and so well crafted, I would love to sit down in the kitchen of the school and just cook and chat with most of them. As for the killer reveal, well that took me a bit by surprise as well. Things just moved along at such a fast clip and there were enough suspects that I hadn't really settled on anyone person. Fun for a change!
When I read the first book in this series, I wasn't sure I would read any more, but am so glad I did!
This series just keeps getting better and better!
My thanks for NetGalley and Kensington for the chance to read this early copy in exchange for my honest review. I say grab it and read!

This series keeps getting better and better. Lynn Cahoon can't write them fast enough for me. Mia, Trent and the rest of the gang are so endearing and the mystery keeps me hooked until the very end. The perfect blend of romance, mystery and magic!

Such a fun, whimsical story. Mia works at the lodge and is preparing to take her witches exam. Add to that stress, a leprechaun shows up to find out if Trent still has powers and why he was gifted a hellhound. It is not allowed to have more than one witch with powers per generation, so everyone is a bit on edge since Trent supposedly relinquished his magic to his younger brother. When the leprechaun turns up dead behind Trent's property, everyone is on edge.

Such a fun group of characters. I like Mia and her crew and the troubles they become involved in. It is fun and very entertaining. A nice escape.

Seven Secret Spellcasters is book #7 in the Kitchen Witch Mysteries series by Lynn Cahoon.

This series gets better with each book! Mia has some big changes taking place in her life regarding her witch training. Cerby is the sweetest Hellhound you’ll ever see and he has a new friend! Mia is realizing that there is a lot left for her to learn about the magical world. When there’s a death near Trent‘s home, he and Cerby are suspects, and Mia works with Mark to figure out who the killer is. I really liked Mia and Mark working together on this case. I also appreciated the times where Mia realized she was venturing into “too stupid to live” territory. I was concerned in the last book with all the relationship changes that it was the end of the series and I’m so happy that despite all the changes everyone is still there for each other. And what a surprise at the end!

Mia has a lot on her plate—and now there’s a dragon involved?! As more and more characters enter the story, I keep asking myself: are they allies or enemies? Honestly, there are still a few I don't trust, and that constant tension keeps things so compelling. I'm really intrigued by the buildup to what could be a major war, and I seriously cannot wait to see where the story goes next.

With all the training Mia’s been through, I’m left wondering—is she truly ready for what’s coming? I guess we’ll find out... and I’ll definitely be along for the ride!

I received a complimentary copy of the book from Kensington Publishing through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I love these books. This one solved a lot of mysteries which was nice because sometimes they bring up a lot of situations that don’t get resolved. There are still some out there but we got some answers which was nice. I also want a little more love from Trent and Mia but I love them. Can’t wait to see where this series goes!

Thoroughly enjoyed the latest installment in this cozy.

This is my first in the series, and at first, I was a bit lost on who the familiars were, but I was able to figure out who's who by the middle.

Great story and lots of fun with the paranormal twists. Def. want to go back and read all the books in order.

This latest in the series will likely be most appreciated by those who have been following Mia's adventures as a kitchen witch in training. This time out her love interest Trent and his familiar Cerby, who appears as a Maltese, are the prime suspects in the murder of an investigator who has come to the magical town to look into them. Mia takes on the witchy side of the investigation. At its root this is a classic cozy-small town, family, friends, romance and pets- but its overlayered with the whole witchy thing which time felt overwhelming because there's almost more attention paid to it than to the crime. That said. I always enjoy a visit with Mia thanks to Cahoon's storytelling. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. A good read for fans.

Mia is preparing to take her first exam to be a kitchen witch, but when a leprechaun comes to town to investigate Cerby, Trevor's hellhound, and then turns up dead, everything is confusing. Christina and Levi are celebrating their engagement and Mia's grandmother is also ready to celebrate her own. Many subplots in this book but the resolution of the murder takes both human and magic people to solve. A good read, I have yet to figure out who the seven spell casters are in the story! A good escape read in the craziness of day to day life!

This was by far my favorite book of the series. It has lots more magic and who doesn't love a purple dragon?

Mia Malone is preparing to take her kitchen witch test to take over the mantle from her grandmother. While studying, she continues to work as catering director at the Lodge in Magic Springs as well as keeping her hand in at her own catering company, Mia's Morsels. She is being pressured to join the local coven and she is unsure if she wants that responsibility. Complicating things further, Mia's boyfriend, Trent, is under investigation from the National Coven because the Goddess delivered him a hellhound (Cerby) and he is not supposed to have any magic. When a half-witch, half-leprechaun shows up to assess the situation, then ends up dead, things get more complicated for Mia.

I loved all the magic in this book as well as the descriptions of delicious food. The familiars are always a fun addition and I am always curious to what mischief Cerby will get up to. No spoilers but I was very excited that the book ended on a note that the series will likely continue. We should get more supernatural elements and hopefully plenty more of the dragon.
