Ben Davis is an attorney in Nashville, Tennessee. A patient becomes septic and dies as a result of complications caused by a botched gallbladder surgery. Two doctors have a scam going with unnecessary surgeries. They do not stop when the patient dis. Now the family is mad. Their mother died and the doctors did not do anything to prevent it. She could have been transferred but then the doctors’ mistakes would be known. Ben, with the help of his mentor, Morty Steine, and his niece Sammie Davis, take the case for the families in multiple trials.

The book has a steady pace, the characters are well developed, and it is written in the third person point of view. Ben is an ordinary guy that eats when he is stressed. Morty is older and retires to spend the as much time as he can with his dying wife. There are so many things going on in this book. I could not stop reading it and immediately when to the second book. If you like legal or medical thrillers, you will enjoy this book.

This story was of great courtroom drama. Having a medical background myself, I found the plot especially interesting. Well written.
Many thanks to A. Turk LLC and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I received a free copy from NetGalley. A legal thriller that is heavy on the legal and light on the thriller. You know that the law moves slowly because it takes so many pages to get from part to part. That said, it isn't a bad story, just very slow moving.

I am reading everything I can find by this author now. The book was well paced and I enjoyed the protagonist very much. Will be looking forward to more in this series.

After many years of working with his mentor, Ben Davis takes over the practice and lands a huge case involving ten medical malpractice suits. Davis soon discovers that the hospital and several of its doctors are providing unnecessary tests and surgeries on unsuspecting patients. Even with his niece and mentor assisting with the case, it is a heavy burden on his financial resources, relationships, career and even his personal safety.

First Do No Harm has an excellent plot but it is heavily laden with legal details and would benefit from more extensive character development. The characters encounter some frightening situations that don't feel like they are ever really resolved. They are sort of dropped in your lap and then swept away. Ben is a very likeable character though. I am reminded of a funny Uncle who would sneak cigars and cookies in spite of the hazard to his health. I found myself feeling anxious about the trials and hoping they would win in the end. This is the first book in the series and I am curious to see where the next book will take us.
