Alexandria Bellefleur does it again with a unique sexy rom com that kept me wanting more at every turn! Can’t wait to reread in October. Perfect spooky szn book

It’s giving: sapphic Little Mermaid meets Death Becomes Her by way of a demon in a pink power suit. This book had no business being this funny, this sexy, or this existentially unhinged. If you've ever wanted to sell your soul to get your ex back and then accidentally fall for the demon granting your wishes—first of all, same. Second of all, this is your new favorite book.

Sometimes a romance with too much plot doesn't do the romance completely enough for me. This had a lot of plot -- the conceit of six wishes and the stakes of Sam's soul, both of which made the book compulsively readable -- but I still (mostly) bought the romance. Bellefleur's a strong romance writer generally so this was no surprise but it was fun, fresh, and interesting.

I am a long time reader of Alexandria Bellefleur and when I heard the premise of this book I knew it was going to be another hit. Who wouldn't want to kiss a demon they met in an elevator? Alexandria Bellefleur always has a way of giving her characters depth and life in such a short amount of time. Even knowing it's a typical romcom format with all the expected story beats I find myself cheering when things go right and gasping when they go wrong. This author is an auto buy for me at this point and I'm thrilled about it.

Do you ever read a book and think, damn that would make a really great movie. This book is definitely that for me!
To be fair this definitely gives off sapphic Bedazzled vibes. The 2000 version bc this is definitely too sexy to be compared to the 1967 version. And I mean this in the best way possible.
What’s to love…
- sapphic paranormal romance between a demon and a chef
- elevator meet cute (my fav!)
- Top tier TENSION + BANTER
- LOL funny
- Insanely fun concept
- quick and utterly binge-able
- 2000s romcom vibes
- sweet, reflective, and meaningful conversations
What’s not to love…
- pacing was not my favorite. We spent too long on wish sequences and not enough time on scenes with the two MCs interacting! I wanted MORE. The book (for me) really got interesting around 60-ish% mark - but then the last 40% felt so rushed. I wanted a lot less time spent on wasted on Hannah and I felt like it really need more conflict with the Devil.
- the romance comes off just a bit too insta-love for my taste
- For all that talk about the forked tongue I feel cheated we didn’t get to see it in action.
🌶️- Ch 14, very mildly explicit hands only scene

The premise of this book was really interesting and I had a delightfully good time reading it. I thought all the different scenarios Sam experienced with her wishes were so fun - I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. And of course I was very intrigued to see how the actual romance between Sam and Daphne would play out. How would they get their HEA? Ultimately I found it all quite satisfying and I'm glad I read it.

This was my first Alexandria Bellefleur book––I'd been meaning to try her out for ages, and I'm glad I did! This book has a great premise, but alas! I am not its ideal reader. I just didn't "click" with Bellefleur's style of prose, and struggled to feel connected to any of her characters. The end also felt a bit melodramatic. This book largely felt like the shape of a romance novel, without any of the...feeling? It followed the beats, but it didn't really commit to them. Grateful for the chance to read this ARC, and glad I now have more insight into my own preferences!

For starters, I absolutely respect a book with an arguably bonkers premise that just commits to that premise and doesn't look back. Obviously, the "Faustian, but make it sapphic" energy was delightful throughout, but there was overall a pacing issue that made it difficult for me to buy into the main romance. Samantha spent so much time hung up on her ex that by the time Daphne was positioned as a new potential love interest, it felt like the book had to squeeze in all of the necessary development for their relationship that it was all rushed by comparison — and to have Samantha going from worshipping Hannah and loathing Daphne to being willing to sacrifice everything for Daphne was more difficult to buy into. Again, I'm a huge fan of what this book set out to do, but the actual execution proved somewhat lacking for me.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this edition from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This wa so much fun, the cover is stunning and perfect and I cannot stop thinking about it. my wants and dreams In a book

This is not a romance. The love interest isn’t really even seen in most of the book let alone as a love interest until the 70% mark when the spice starts. There’s no build-up or tension by any means. I really wanted to love this one but it’s a hard no for me.

oh this was WONDERFUL.
i can safely say this is my favourite sapphic romance i have read in a long time. this was my first book by alexandria bellefleur but i have a strong suspicion it will be the first of many!!
this was hilarious at the same time as being so so sweet - if you enjoyed the funny/silly banter vibes alongside a super cool fantastical element of books like ‘my roommate is a vampire’ i think you will LOVE this one. i found both characters to be so entertaining, and the plot line of a demon coming to grant wishes was SO FUN. this story was so unique to me and i literally read it in a singular sitting. the romance was so perfectly done and the tension was wonderful. LOVED LOVE LOVED IT.
would highly HIGHLY recommend !! 5 stars!!!!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

A sapphic rom-com with a devilish twist, this book is a spicy, fast-paced joyride through heartbreak, hell, and unexpected romance. After a failed proposal, Sam strikes a deal with Daphne—a pink-loving demon with attitude—in exchange for a shot at winning her ex back. But with wishes and her soul on the line, Sam quickly learns that nothing is ever that simple.
The banter between Sam and Daphne is sharp, witty, and addictive. Daphne steals the show with her humor and flair, and while the romance develops a little quickly, the charm and chaotic fun of their dynamic more than makes up for it. Perfect for fans of paranormal rom-coms and sapphic love stories with heat, heart, and a little hellfire.

It’s giving “it’s a wonderful life” meets “a Christmas Carol” but it’s a demon! No angels here, but what IS here is a beautiful and funny sapphic romance. God I love lesbians. Also alternate realities?! Sign me up! Also the spice was spicyyyy!!! This was a sinfully hot romance, and I cannot wait to tell everyone about it!

This book was so fun, so clever, so witty, and I so loved it. I went into this blindly since I’m already an Alexandria Bellefleur fan and it was different from her past books! Still had the same cutesy queer girls falling in love and navigating life but has a fun supernatural twist! I’m going to be telling everyone who will listen to preorder this book between now and October!

Sam and Daphne are adorable! Sam is dedicated and so loving. Daphne is sassy and secretly sweet. Their chemistry was off the charts. It was so satisfying to watch Sam become empowered and learn to respect herself. I really appreciated that Alexandria Bellefleur painted Hannah in shades of grey. Hannah wasn't a good partner to Sam and made some shitty choices, but she wasn't a villain, which is so easy to do in these kind of situations. It was also cool to learn more about Daphne and her journey.
As far as the plot goes, Alexandria Bellefleur was so smart. She made the first 1/2 so funny while still packing emotional punches. But in the second half, things tighten and focus more. The humor, while still here, taking a back seat to the drama. I love that in a romance novel.
I love Alexandria Bellefleur's books and this was a great addition to her catalog. Preorder it!
Thank you Netgalley and Berkley for the ARC! All opinions are my own.

alexandria bellefleur is not a 'must read' for me, but i was immediately drawn into this by the cover art and the obvious 'bedazzled' influences (bellefleur uses several direct dialogue quotes from the fraser-hurley film in the beginning). i love the idea of a corporate-y demon running around, so there was some promise that i would enjoy this one over other sapphic rom coms.
it didn't disappoint - the devil she knows is a very accessible, fun candy-coated read. i wouldn't actually purchase it due to the genre, but it's a lighthearted winner i wouldn't be upset about if i picked it up from my local library. and since rom coms are in vogue, i could see this being a winner for several of my patrons.
there are a few shortcomings - as other readers have pointed out, it's hard to see sam and hannah's connections that would make sam spend 5 of 6 precious wishes on. hannah isn't portrayed as particularly nice or loving at any point in their relationship, and while sam does explain her attraction towards the end, it still doesn't quite hit. and because sam spends so much time wishing and pining for hannah's attentions, we don't get a lot of focus on sam and daphne's development until the latter fourth, in which their story becomes more instalove than anything. (and ... honestly quite boring but daphne is cute and i do like sam as a character)
it's a perfectly palatable story. i imagine if you like bellefleur's other works then you'll like this one.

The premise of this is so fun! I wish there was a bit more of a balance between just how much Sam is hung up on her ex for most of the book and then her pretty drastic flip with her feelings for Daphne, but I had a pretty good time reading this.

Alexandria Bellefleur never misses! I fell for Daphne and Sam right away, and I loved the nods to Bedazzled that captured the best of the film and renovated the bits of it that didn't hold up as well. This is a gorgeous sapphic love story.
Thank you to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for a copy in exchange for my review.

📖 Book Review 📖 Is it better to deal with the devil you know or the devil you don’t know? How far would you be willing to go to gain back the dream life you just lost? When Samantha’s girlfriend turns down her marriage proposal, it feels as if she has lost it all. But a mysterious woman with corn-silk hair gives her six wishes that she just can’t refuse…and so it turns out she has made a deal with a demon named Daphne. But as we all know a pact with the underworld never goes as planned but this one leads to a journey neither of these two expected. Alexandra Bellefleur delivers a heartfelt novel about heartbreak that elevates to a whole new level, with a litany of escapades that follow these two around. And sometimes it’s not the demon on our shoulder, but the demon in the elevator, who turns out to be the whisper of change, channeling hope.

After not enjoying the author's last release (in spite of loving the ones before it) and adding in that this was her first go at including paranormal elements I was worried going into this one. I guess that was a fluke, because I had SO MUCH FUN with this one that I read it in a day.
I originally marked it at 4 (thinking 4.25), but in hindsight I've gotta bump it up that last quarter star to 4.5 because yeah - I had a blast and I'm looking forward to reading it again!
4.5/5
