Thank you New Harbinger Publications and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
Noga Zerubavel and Terri Mossman have provided an incredible clinician resource to facilitate healing and reduce suffering of trauma survivors.
This process based approach provides a four focus mindfulness pathway which includes attention regulation, body awareness, emotional regulation and change in perspective, all of which are developed sequentially.
The book is broken into three parts beginning with an overview of trauma including the spectrum of trauma, including covert/insidious trauma and secondary traumatic stress (STS) which can occur based on therapists reactions to working with trauma. It describes schemas and their role in the adaptation to trauma.
Part two then provides a pathway to integrate mindfulness into treatment for trauma survivors. It begins with recognising that many presenting problems could be an adaptive response to previous trauma. Safety within the therapy journey is key and the therapist is drawn to recognise when mindfulness is safe to use and when it is not appropriate.
The window of tolerance is explained and examples of how to widen this window are provided through the use of different techniques and tools.
Part three focuses on the techniques for implementing mindfulness and using them in a process based approach. The difference between top down and bottom up approaches are outlined and again lots of techniques are provided and explained.
It was really interesting to read about the adverse responses to mindfulness and how to ensure that mindfulness is not utilised until safety provisions are implemented.
I am not a clinician, but my post grad experience is relevant as is my interest and practice in mindfulness.
This book contains lots of really useful information for both clinicians and those seeking a deeper understanding of this subject, rather than a trauma survivor seeking assistance.
I highly recommend this book and being given the opportunity to provide my review. This is a book I will go back to and reread, highlight and really slowly absorb.

Integrating Mindfulness into Psychotherapy for Trauma is a detailed guide that offers clinicians a robust framework for incorporating mindfulness into trauma treatment. The book presents a process-based approach that is more suited for professionals rather than individuals seeking self-help. While the material is comprehensive and insightful, it could benefit from a more user-friendly presentation to enhance accessibility. Overall, it equips therapists with tools to safely and effectively integrate mindfulness into their practice. Thank you to New Harbinger Publications for the ARC; this review is based on my personal opinion.
