Reviewed on good reads.
Very solid quit-lit, would definitely read more by this author.
A very solid quit-lit memoir that discusses obsession transference , experiences with motherhood and working class struggles with finesse. Equal parts funny and serious, I loved the honesty with which this was written. I would love to read a fiction book by this author, I think they would weave a great story.

Julie Fontes drank. A lot. This is a story about her relationship with alcohol. The book also includes stories about the author's relationship with her daughter and various lovers. These stories all show that the author is human.
If you're looking for a how-to book with tips for sobriety, this book is not for you. It's mostly a memoir with very few details about how she managed to achieve sobriety.
The book does touch on the author's writing journey. But again, it's not a how-to.
I did appreciate some of the author's insights. One example: "[S]erving takes such rapt attention, it can take you out of circular thoughts, rumination, passive-aggressive texts, aggressive texts. Stepping into the restaurant is like stepping into another world— one with an compelling focus— be efficient and pleasant while selling food." These insights reminded me that I can do tangible things to stay centered and move away from whatever mundane addiction holds onto me.
