This is my second Karin Slaughter book and I have to get my hands on another ASAP! Thrilling, twisty, intense; this novel completely pulled me in from the very first page. I thought I had it all figured out, then twist after twist comes! The characters are so well thought out, the plot is unexpected, I’m blown away! Only reason I’m rating 4 starts instead of 5 is because some parts of the book drug on, I’m talking 30 minute long chapters. Overall awesome read by Slaughter! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this novel!

Karin Slaughter does it again with another mind blowing story with an ending that will make your jaw drop!!! It was a little abrupt how they switch gears and introduced a new character. Because that threw me off I had to drop the stars but truly a 4.5 star read. Can’t wait for the next one.

Karin Slaughter nailed it again. This is only my second book by her and now I need another one immediately. The book hangover from this is going to be real. It easily made it into my top ten of the year.

I loved the way she included real statistics throughout the story. You can tell she took her time with the research and it made the story even more impactful.

This was sharp, fast-paced, and completely addictive. I really hope this turns into a series because I would follow these characters anywhere.

This is another intense, gripping story from Karin Slaughter. She is one of the best at writing stories with complex character dynamics and unforgettable cases. This story focuses initially a devastating case of two teenage girls who go missing from a small town in Georgia. Officer Emmy Clifton investigates, hoping to find the girls alive but instead finds both of their bodies at the bottom of a local pond. Cut to twelve years later- Emmy is now the acting sheriff. The man accused of the two murders twelve years ago is getting out of prison. Another girl goes missing. The search for her kicks off an investigation that digs up secrets that will change the lives of Emmy and the rest of the town forever. Slaughter keeps up the tension by engaging her readers with flawed characters and twists that are always satisfying. I hope this is the start of a series- I’ll definitely read a sequel. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

As a huge fan of the Will Trent series, I had no issues jumping into another series because Karin writes fantastic crime fiction novels with such heart and focus on the victims. Reading We Are All Guilty Here was no different. Each character was so well developed that I felt that I would know them if I met them in North Falls, GA. This was an intense and suspenseful police procedural set in a small town where everyone knows each other and family roots extend several generations. It was an incredibly emotional read, too, concerning both the victims and their families as well as the police investigators. Emmy Clifton, FMC, is a force and I am so excited to see how her character evolves as I know she will uncover even more tantalizing secrets in the town of North Falls.

4-4.25 STARS

As a huge Karin Slaughter fan, I couldn’t wait to delve between the pages of this author’s latest book, “We Are All Guilty Here,” the first installment in her new North Falls series. And right from the get-go, I was completely enthralled.

Set against a small town backdrop, this story boasts a compelling premise that begins in the past and then fast forwards 12 years where past and present ultimately collide. It’s a twisty and suspenseful mystery with complex characters that I came to like and understand.

“We Are All Guilty Here” is a slow-building, character-driven story that’s more police procedural than thriller with a slightly different vibe than the other Karin Slaughter books I’ve read to date. Yet, it’s still quite gripping, nonetheless. As such, I look forward to reading what comes next!

Wow! My first Karin Slaughter book, and I am floored! The emotional roller coaster of this book is incredible — I went from the edge of my seat gasping for air to wiping the tears off my cheek.

Mostly told through the voice of a strong (read tough as nails) female law enforcement character named Emmy and her Sheriff father, the story revolves around the abduction of two 14 year old girls in a small town. As statistics are cited, with every passing hour the search for the girls goes from potential rescue to body recovery. A major twist toward the end that I didn’t see coming blew my mind.

Thanks to both NetGalley and William Morrow for the ARC!

Slaughter delivers gripping family drama that had me hooked from the start. As always, it’s the characters that draw me in. While she’s known for portraying deeply broken women navigating relentless trauma, this time we meet women who are strong, steady, and bring a refreshing, powerful edge to the case.

ARC releasing 8/12. Two girls vanish on the 4th of July and Officer Emmy Clifton is determined to bring them home as she feels guilty she turned away one of the girls when she wanted to talk. This was a perfect thriller mystery. It was full of twists, all believable and unexpected. At no point did I actually know what was going to happen nor was I disappointed by what did happen, which is fairly rare for a mystery. A must read for any fans of this genre.

Did I stay up until 6:30 a.m binging this book? Yes, yes I did. And I regret nothing :)

We all know this by now, but Karin Slaughter has absolutely mastered the true crime genre. From the beginning, I found myself invested in these characters and their journey to find truth and justice.

The book begins with the abduction of two 15 year old girls, Madison and Cheyenne. Their story is absolutely heartbreaking to say the least. I have never been on the brink of tears while reading a thriller - so this was a new and refreshing writing style that I really enjoyed. Slaughter took me on an emotional roller coaster to say the least.

The female main character, Emmy, is an absolute bad ass. She stops at nothing to find out the truth and put her own life on the line multiple times for the well being of others. The pond scene (if you know you know) had me cheering her on and crying right along with her. I loved reading from the point of view of a police officer rather than that of the victim (which I feel is most common in this genre). It felt like I was a part of the investigation which I LOVED as an avid true crime, Criminal Minds junkie.

The only downside to this book (which is the main reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5) was the length of the chapters. As someone who prefers short chapters, I did find myself getting distracted due to the amount of time it took me to finish each segment. But this is totally personal preference and my ADHD brain talking. Overall, this was a phenomenal read. I expected it to be good but it surpassed my expectations!

Huge thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for providing an ARC of this book. I look forward to its release date so I can add a physical copy to my library!

Slaughter does it again. We Are All Guilty Here hits like a box of old tapes you forgot you had—familiar, but twisted in all the right ways. It’s Southern heat, secrets, and that slow-burn dread that creeps up on you while you’re thinking you’re just watching fireworks.

The vibe? Gritty. Small-town rot. People holding on to way too much for way too long. Don’t expect comfort—this one cuts deep. But damn if it doesn’t keep you flipping pages like you’re fast-forwarding just to see who survives.

Back to her roots!

I really enjoyed this book. New characters, and the storyline is more like the original Karin Slaughter books. Still set in the south, Georgia specifically, the author didn't move far from her preferred geography. She has returned to this book featuring 2 strong female characters and a very well-crafted mystery.

Emmy is Chief Deputy of Clifton County, founded by her relatives. Her father is Sheriff and she is his assistant. Her son Cole is also on the force. It is a small county, everyone knows everyone else or is related in some way. When 2 girls were found murdered 12 years ago, it started fractures in the community. Now, 12 years later, another young girl goes missing and Emmy is thrust back into it.

After a family tragedy, Jude returns to Clifton County. She is recently retired from the FBI, but more importantly, she hasn't been in the county for decades....everyone thinks she is gone forever, she is Emmy's sister who she never met.

As the mystery unravels, family secrets are revealed as well. This book kept my attention and moved fast. Looks like the beginning of a new series, can't wait! Highly recommend.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.

We Are All Guilty Here is another gripping, emotionally charged thriller from bestselling author Karin Slaughter. Known for her popular Will Trent and Grant County series, Slaughter brings her signature blend of suspense, grit, and emotional depth to this stand-alone novel. The story introduces a compelling new character who feels right at home in Slaughter’s world—flawed, complex, and unforgettable. The pacing is relentless, with twists that land hard and moments of quiet heartbreak that linger. Fans of her previous titles will recognize the sharp prose and layered storytelling that have made her a household name in crime fiction. We Are All Guilty Here is both a fresh take and a familiar thrill, delivering everything readers love about Slaughter’s work. It’s a must-read for longtime fans and new readers alike.

Karin Slaughter’s best standalone BY FAR, although it looks like this will become a new series. I am thrilled! This book is dark and unsettling. There are shocking moments and characters just oozing with depth. Definitely one of my favorite reads of the year so far.

One small town.
Two girls missing.
Multiple potential suspects.

Emmy works as a deputy in North Falls with her dad, the sheriff. When two girls go missing, the whole town is turned upside down. Families, friendships, and lives destroyed, as the case goes cold for another twelve years, until another girl goes missing. This time around, the ghosts of the past come back to help, (and haunt) the investigation. Is Emmy being both so deeply connected to the case both personally and professionally a help or a hinderance? As Emmy untangles the web of lies and deception, more secrets about the people around her unfold. The sick mind of the psychopath & execution of the crime was already fascinating, but the identity of the monster behind it all makes the whole story absolutely unhinged.

What a book hangover! This book had so many twists and turns. Karin Slaughter brilliantly managed them all, leaving no stone unturned and leaving no loose ends. Just when you think you know where the story is going, the plot makes a sharp left turn, leaving trail markers along the way. I am absolutely thrilled that this is first in a series, as I could not put this one down.

Heavy on the trigger warnings for sexual based crimes, crimes against children, rape, homicide, torture, substance abuse, domestic violence, and more. The subject matter in this book makes Law & Order: SVU seem tame. While it may be a controversial subject to read about for “leisure”, I do think that this story brings attention to horrific crimes that do happen to women and girls everyday, giving us a chance to start a dialogue.

I always look forward to a new book from Karin Slaughter. While I was at first a little sad that it wasn’t the next installment in the Will Trent series, I was intrigued about starting a brand new series. I was not disappointed. Slaughter gives us complex and empathetic characters to root for and a small town setting that is sure to provide many more mysteries to solve.

The new series centers on Emmy Clifton, a deputy in the Sheriff’s department, and Jude Archer, a recently retired FBI agent who returns to North Falls to consult on a missing child case. They are both the type of strong, clever women with traumatic experiences in their past that you expect to find in a Slaughter novel, but still distinct enough to feel like fresh characters. The extended Clifton family (there are a lot of them) are all enjoyable additions to the story and I especially liked Emmy’s father, Gerald, and her son, Cole. There’s a romantic interest, as well, but that part of the storyline is very minimal.

The story is told in two timelines, which I wasn’t expecting. The disappearance of the two girls mentioned in the synopsis is the first case and then it jumps twelve years in the future with a new case, which ties back to the first. The mystery unfolds as a well done procedural. There was a lot of information and statistics about missing persons cases relayed, which was interesting and relevant to the story, but was told in such a textbook like style that it took me out of the narrative a bit. While I did guess who the bad guy was awhile before it was revealed, it was still an intriguing mystery. Heads up to those that need trigger warnings, you will want to check for those before reading this. Slaughter never shies away from the graphic and brutal details of the crimes in her books.

Overall, I enjoyed We Are all Guilty Here. It was a great start to a new series and I’m really looking forward to the next book.

We Are All Guilty Here 🚓

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Genre: Mystery, Thriller
Pub Date: August 12, 2024

On the Fourth of July two local teen girls go missing from the small town of North Falls. Police officer Emmy feels the immediate stress of the situation, especially because of the missing girls is the daughter of her best friend.

Holy damn! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Karin Slaughter, you blew me away again. I mean it when I say I couldn’t put it down. I tried. But I came right back to it and had to keep going. I love how masterfully she plots out her stories. I was only about 30% in, and couldn’t believe how much had already happened. If she somehow had stopped there, I still would have given it five stars. But somehow there was still more. And it was SO GOOD. She really got me at the end of so many chapters with my jaw dropped in shock about the latest revelation.

I really enjoyed getting to know all these characters and am excited to see it looks like this will be a new series for Slaughter! I think this book would actually be a great tv series. With all the little surprises along the way, I can already see how great a TV show would progress from it. If you like police procedurals, satisfying mysteries, or just are a fan of Karin Slaughter, I highly recommend checking this one out! I personally think I will be jumping back to try out one of her previous series soon!

Another Karin Slaughter hit! Gripping! Suspenseful! Twisty! Knock down drag out perfect for the start of this new series.

Two young girls go missing during a fireworks show and the residents of North Falls are about to see the ugliness that lies within their small town. It becomes very personal for Officer Emmy Clifton because one of the missing girls is the daughter of her long time best friend. As each hour passes, the chances of finding the girls alive decreases dramatically. It’s a full out race to find the girls and capture the monster responsible. Dark secrets and heartbreaking lies are about to be discovered in a small town where no one is a stranger.

I loved Emmy’s character. She’s a good cop, tough with a “no quit” attitude, but also with very real emotions. As much as I love Slaughter’s Will Trent series, I will no doubt be watching for, then devouring book #2.

Many thanks to NetGalley and William Morrow for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

When an accused murderer is released from prison, a nearly identical kidnapping takes place days after he returns home. Chief deputy Emmy is determined to send the former inmate back to prison. But as new details arise, the Clifton Sheriff’s Department are rushed to find the victim and possibly a new suspect…

This book is tense, heavy is some areas and addicting. I couldn’t decide whether to hold my babies a little tight when tucking them in or rushing off to read the next chapter.

I feel like the characters are all very relatable. While there is lots of drama, the lifestyles and personalities are all someone you could point out in your small town.

There were a few plot twists as the end that really surprised me and I pride myself on being a self proclaimed female Sherlock Holmes for mystery thrillers!

This is only my second Karin Slaughter book and I think I’m going to become a super fan. Did I download 4 other books? Yes, yes I did.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, William Morrow and Karin Slaughter for the opportunity and the ARC!
