I really thought this would be another slow read for me with a sick parent, but I was pleasantly surprised that my first impression was incorrect. A sick parent is a very recent trigger for me and it just keeps popping up in every book I read.

But this ended up being a road trip of a lifetime for two estranged sisters that couldn’t be more different. I liked both Aurora and Zahra and how they are two sides of the same coin. And how much they could learn from each other.

Dealing with family, their lives and their own issues, my feelings changed about the sisters the more their story was revealed. And all that talk about food.

It’s a touching and at times emotional read as the sisters unwittingly help each other and overcome their obstacles.

Brittany Pressley narrates this one. If you’ve read my audiobook reviews, you know she is one of my favorite narrators. But I’ve usually listened to her rom coms. She did a great job narrating these two opposite sisters. With just tone and not voices, I was able to tell which sister was narrator of the section. That’s impressive.

This was a good read of both family and friendship fiction.

A lighthearted tale of sisters and family. A bit far-fetched, but if you can suspend your disbelief it's a bit of a romp. The characters are pretty stereotypical and the situations often seem unlikely. I didn't find this a satisfying read but if you're looking for something to read by the pool and like a bit of escapism, featuring a dysfunctional family, you may well enjoy it more than I did. Horses for courses!

Two sisters. One road trip. A lifetime of secrets to unpack.
Sisterhood is rarely simple — and in Trust Me On This by Lauren Parvizi, it’s anything but.

***
For Zahra and Aurora, being sisters means navigating different mothers, a thirteen-year age gap, and vastly different relationships with the same man they both call "Dad."

This novel dives deep into the emotional complexities of family — how two people can be bound by blood yet experience childhood, love, and even grief in wildly different ways. Zahra and Aurora are called by their estranged father, who reveals he's seriously ill and carrying a secret he doesn’t want to take to his grave. Zahra is determined to make the trip to see him. Aurora, as unpredictable as ever, decides to come along.

What unfolds is a layered and emotional road trip that’s as much about physical miles as it is about emotional distance. As they make pit stops across the country, the sisters begin to see each other — and their father — through new eyes. It’s a journey of reflection, vulnerability, and, ultimately, transformation.

One quote in particular stayed with me long after I turned the final page:

“You think you have all the time in the world... until you don't.”

It’s a simple line, but it says so much about the heartache and urgency that drives this story — the moments we miss, the words left unsaid, and the complicated people we love anyway.

The writing is beautiful, full of wit and warmth. I found myself both laughing and tearing up at different moments. Zahra and Aurora are complete opposites, yet watching their bond evolve as they slowly open up to one another was deeply satisfying. This book touches on so much — love, loss, identity, grief, and the tangled web that is family.

Trust Me On This is one of those novels that lingers long after the last page. It’s a powerful reminder that relationships are rarely simple — but they can still be meaningful, healing, and full of heart.

I love when a book takes you on a beautiful emotional journey and includes you on all the rollercoaster rides of life as you read. This lovely novel does just that and makes you believe in the power of forgiveness and family too. Zahra and Aurora both have deep wounds from the past, but a crazy road trip to be with their dying father provides the perfect amount of uniquely wild and shared experiences that start the healing process and let trust and love in. I listened to the audiobook and the narration is incredible and truly made me forget I was listening to a story and not living it.

Two half-sisters, Zahra and Aurora, who are not close, get a call from their father saying that he is dying and they should come visit. Zahra and Aurora embark on a road trip to see their father. While the characters development was there and I loved that each sister was completely different, I still didn’t connect with either MC. Both sisters had their own trauma that they have had to overcome. I loved the family stories that came out of the road trip. What was good, was that the story felt real. It could have been any family going through this. The writing was wonderful but for some reason, I wasn’t invested in what happened. This was a story about self-discovery, forgiveness, and family.

I felt like there were a lot of pieces to this book, but it still felt like watching something from a distance. The characters just felt kind of surface level. I enjoyed that it was about half sisters who reunite on a car trip to visit their sick father. The sisters are complete opposites, with different personalities, interests and childhoods. Yet, they both have had their negative experiences, their secrets and their human issues. It was interesting to reminisce about the past with them and to learn more about their life today and in the past. But I never felt a connection to them, nor did I feel like they were more than two people trapped in a car together. I wanted a little more emotion between them, which would have made them feel a little more dimensional to me. That being said, I enjoyed the family drama, the stories, and the unconditional support.
Thank you netgalley for my advanced reader copy.

I love books about people taking road trips, because they are faced with each other, their issues, and their feelings. That can end in a good thing or a bad thing, but the trip is worth it.

Trust Me on This has two half-sisters who haven't had anything to do with each other for quite awhile heading out to visit their dying father to see what it is that he wants to tell them. Aurora is a TV star in the middle of a scandal. Zahra loves to cook, is fostering a cat and hates that her father always loved Aurora more than her.

These two women have to face so much in this road trip. The little side trips that delay them add more insight into them and add to the story. The road trip will either bring them together in the truths they discover, or tear them apart forever.

Written with such emotion and the ups and downs of being sisters. Awesome!

I listened to the audio version narrated by Brittany Pressley. The narration was wonderful and the voice of each character gave me even more feeling into who each character was.

Thanks to Brilliance Publishing and NetGalley for the audiobook. All thoughts are my own.

Trust Me On This by Lauren Parvizi was an audiobook listen for me, and Brittany Pressley was the narrator. I thought she did a beautiful job with this novel and hope to listen to more audiobooks by her.
The novel is about two sisters traveling to see their sick father, and they haven’t seen each other or talked for years. The story was real and heartfelt, with lots of raw, misunderstood moments. I felt for both of them and the way they grew up. I have sisters and felt the pain and awkwardness. It was a beautiful, happy ending, and I enjoyed it.
Thanks, Brilliance Audio via NetGalley.

Two estranged half-sisters embark on a road trip to visit their dying father only to learn family secrets and confront their painful pasts. This was great on audio narrated by my very fav, Brittany Presley and fits in well with this year of dramatic sibling stories (of which I've read many so far!). Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review. I really enjoyed this one and would recommend for fans of books like Favourite daughter by Morgan Dick.

There’s something about books involving sisters that always touches my heart. It could be because I have three sisters scattered around the world, and I miss them dearly.
This book was simply beautiful!
It tells the story of two sisters on a journey of self-discovery, forgiveness, and understanding the true meaning of family. Even though it was a bit emotional, it was also funny, refreshing, and heartwarming. This story will stay with me for a long time.

Trust Me on This is well-written, but at a certain point, it becomes clear that the story revolves around fairly basic family drama—without much depth to make it feel engaging. The characters tend to avoid rather than explore their conflicts, which makes for a frustrating read. There’s a lot of sitting around, being mad at each other, without much real progression. On top of that, their emotions and reactions feel inconsistent, making it hard to distinguish them as individuals. While the book has its moments, the lack of meaningful character development makes it difficult to fully invest in the story.

One word review: Touching. This one definitely touched my heart and it also made me laugh. Brittany Pressley is one of my very fave narrators and she was perfect for this story about two very different sisters on a road trip to visit their dying father. Their banter was fantastic and their journeys of self discovery were entertaining and enlightening. Highly recommend!

Thank you so much to Brilliance Audio for the gifted audiobook!

I was sold on this one based on the gorgeous cover and the fact that the audiobook was narrated by Brittany Pressley. She always does the most wonderful job bringing a story to life, and this was certainly no exception!

I am always a sucker for a good sister/family drama especially when the reader is promised major secrets revealed, etc. Throw in a last minute road trip and I'm sold! The relationship between the two sisters felt so authentic to how things would be in real life. All of their emotions were so clearly shown/told.

There were definitely a couple parts that almost brought me to tears!

I would definitely read more from Lauren Parvizi in the future!

3.5 rounded up

This was a heartwarming read that kept me engaged throughout. I loved the road trip aspect and the character development of the sisters. I paired the print and audio and enjoyed reading this way. The narration for the audiobook was very engaging, and I enjoyed that performance.

There was something that I can’t put my finger on that kept me from truly loving the book. But I want to 100% acknowledge that this is much more of a reader preference thing than a reflection on the writing.

My thanks to the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
