It’s surely every single parent’s nightmare: you’re out in a busy area with your child; you turn around, and suddenly you can’t see them; they’ve disappeared! You call their name, but they don’t reappear … they’re gone! But then suddenly … there they are again! You see that familiar little person up ahead in between the moving sway of bodies. They turn around and grin at you. They didn’t even know they were ‘lost’! They’re the worst, most heart-pounding few minutes of your life. But what could be worse than that? A child going missing on your watch, when that child isn’t your own!!! And that’s what happens to Coach Cass when Evie goes missing during a netball team sleepover at their school – the elite Manning Academy.
Cass has secrets of her own – not only about the night in question, but about her teenage years growing up in the area. She may have grown up around these parts, but her younger years weren’t the same as the wealthy, privileged young girls she now coaches . The last thing she needs is the truth coming out and doubt being cast in her direction, purely because she’s not “one of them”.
This book kept me up late into the night, and not only because it’s a page-turner. It took me right back to those school days where I too was an outsider, arriving from another country and never quite fitting in. And then again, to when my children were in school and the ongoing angst and in-fighting that is the constant battle to keep your head above water in the pool of “who’s who” and “who’s not” – not only amongst the kids, but the parents too. It’s ongoing and it never stops, until we step out of the water and decide it’s enough! Thank goodness that day does eventually come – for some it’s earlier than for others.
For Cass, although she’s lucky to have had opportunities, she remains aware of what an alternative life could have looked like for her. This keeps her sharp, but also empathetic and caring towards those who don’t have the same background as most of the wealthy girls she trains at Manning Academy. With the return of her old friend Natalie, she also realizes that she needs to be more guarded about who she trusts, now that what should be a safe space has proven not to be quite as comfortable as she and everyone else had assumed. She knows something was on Evie’s mind before she disappeared, and she had a feeling of something not quite right … an undercurrent … rippling between the girls on the team. But she couldn’t quite put her finger on what it was. She knows she needs to discover what’s been going on, and she knows she definitely needs to ensure that fingers aren’t pointed in her direction!
This is well written, with good pace and great social commentary on what and who we allow into our safe spaces, and into the lives of those we love. It’s a reminder to remain careful, protective of our loved ones and of those who genuinely care for us, and to speak up if we feel strongly that something seems wrong, or out of place, especially when it’s online, where so much of what we see cannot be believed.

This book kept me entertained the whole way through. I connected to the character of coach due to her background. I was kept guessing all the way through this book. It's a book about blackmail. Highly recommend.

This is every parent's nightmare - you allow your child to attend a school function, and they disappear. Middle school girls can be cruel to those who they believe are an outsider. Did the other girls harm Evie or is her disappearance darker? This book has solid character development and a page turner.

Wonderful. So many twists. Such brilliant writing. A fabulously thrilling read. One I very highly recommend.

Sooo good! This is my new favourite Miranda Smith title. I was grabbed and invested right from the first chapter! Suspense filled, fast paced, short chapters make this a great read! I flew through the first 15 chapters but because I made the mistake of starting it before bed, I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer and had to close my iPad. The suspense was killing me though; I was up early the next morning to continue reading and find out what happened to Evie. I highly recommend it.
Thank You to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Miranda Smith for the opportunity to read and enjoy this ARC.

Big thanks to Bookouture for a copy on Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Did You See Evie? is a fast paced page turner with thrills and chills.
I always gravitate to a new Miranda Smith, there’s the smart plot, a twist or two and that surprising ending.
Coach Cass and her team of girls have just won the district championships.
As a reward they all get to have a sleepover in the gymnasium with lots of snacks, girlie chat and a movie.
Then the next morning as Cass and the girls wake, her star player Evie has disappeared.
Now a police hunt is on to find her with many secrets and lies exposed…..
A gripping mystery with much to stimulate your reading mind.
Bring on the next Miranda psychological thriller.
A plot of intrigue and suspense.

What should have started out as a fun sleep in for the girls basketball team at their school soon turns into a nightmare. Cass their coach was supposed to look after them but Evie has gone missing .overnight. Evie had been trying to tell her something and now Cass wishes that she had made her tell her what was wrong.
Great book as to be expected from this author. I always look forward to reading them.

I was really disappointed in this book. Its premise was really good, and it had potential to be a really good mystery/thriller but unfortunately it just didn't really go anywhere. It all seemed to be figured out too easily, and a lot of things that came up you never really got answers to, or explanations and it just left you feeling a bit cheated. Like what was the point of it if you were never going to find out more about it, or an outcome? There was no real suspense, no 'thriller' aspect. It just didn't quite hit the mark.
Read as an ARC from netgalley and Bookouture publishing.

Did You See Evie? Is a twisty-turny thriller written in the first person point of view of our main character Head Basketball Coach Cass (Cassandra). She is engaged to Connor, who she lives with, and coaches the girls’ basketball team at the private school Manning Academy.
On the team, Evie is their best shooter and the other girls in the team include Tara, Beatrice, Beth and Amber. The assistant coach is Joanna. Celebrating winning the district championships, Cass takes the team out to celebrate and they go for a meal at Waffle Shack.
Deciding their win deserves a special treat, they later have a sleepover in the school gym with Cass and Joanna looking after the twelve 13- and 14-year-old girls in the team. But in the middle of the night, Evie goes missing.
It turns out that Coach Cass comes from the wrong side of town and has done some things in her past that she is ashamed of. When she meets Nadia, an old friend from her past, she is forced into remembering a time she wishes she could forget. But is Nadia still her friend?
I liked how the novel got straight into the action and I was interested in what was going on immediately and wanted to learn more about Cass and Nadia, as well as what was happening with the girls on the basketball team. The story is involving and intriguing, and there are obviously lots of secrets to be uncovered – most of which I didn’t guess. A good read.

Did You See Evie? is the question basketball coach Cass is frantically asking her team after waking up in the school gym and discovering that Evie is missing. The team sleepover celebration in the gym has turned into a complete disaster. Team member, Evie had wanted to share something with Coach Cass the night before but it didn’t happen and now she is missing? The girls claim they know nothing but Cass knows they are not being truthful. What are they hiding?
Such a fantastic psychological thriller by Miranda Smith @mirandasmithwriter . This is my third book by Ms Smith and all three books were 5 ⭐️! So thankful to Bookouture @bookouture for having me on this book tour and introducing me to the writings of Miranda Smith.
Did You See Evie was a captivating read from start to finish. The pacing was just perfect for me, although at times I definitely found myself clenching my teeth in anticipation of what was about to happen. PLOT TWIST 😅! If you are a psychological thriller reader and looking for your next read I highly recommend Did You See Evie (or any of her books to be honest, you can’t go wrong).

After Cass, a coach at an elite school, sees her basketball team narrowly win the championship, she plans a sleepover for the girls at the school gym to celebrate. But during the night, Evie, the scholarship kid from a dysfunctional family, disappears.
Cass is feeling guilty because someone from her impoverished past asked her to do something that night that may have contributed to Evie’s disappearance.
This fast-paced story had a lot of elements to it: class differences, bullying, sexting, vendettas, cheating – in fact there was a bit too much for my tastes. I was beginning to wish I could be subbed out of the game as the author continued to throw in one red herring after another.

Did You See Evie? by Miranda Smith was a book I should not of started to read before I was going to sleep! I kept on turning my pages to get to the next chapter and telling self, only 1 more chapter and I will go to sleep!
WoW. . . . and how wrong was I! I ended up reading it until I finished! What an excellent book this was, I loved it!
Miranda Smith has away of writing, that will have you gripped from the beginning till the very end, this book was no different! She is an author that always draws you in with a cracking storyline and never disappoints.
She is the queen of plot twists and turns.
I highly recommend Did You See Evie? by Miranda Smith a great holiday read.

Miranda Smith ups the ante and leaves her readers breathless with her chilling new thriller, Did You See Evie?
Coach Cass decided to give her team a treat after winning a sporting tournament. A sleepover in the school gym with pizza, hot chocolate and movies is just what the girls in her team deserve after their sporting triumph. However, their celebration quickly turns sinister when the next morning Cass wakes up to find one of the girls missing. Where is Evie? What happened to her? And will Cass be able to find her in time? Or is she already far too late?
Evie has always been an outsider. She keeps herself to herself and is shy, reserved and aloof. Cass cannot help but see herself in Evie and the coach can sense that the young girl wants to open up to her about something, but something always seems to stop her from reaching out to her properly. A frantic Cass is desperate to find her and when it becomes clear that the rest of the team are keeping secrets, she vows to leave no stone unturned to find Evie – especially because Cass did something that night as well. Something she is desperate to keep hidden.
Readers can always count on Miranda Smith to deliver a tense, twisty and terrifying page-turner that will keep them up all night and she has done it again with Did You See Evie? Masterfully plotted, brilliantly suspenseful and full of shocking surprises and revelations that will leave readers with their jaws on the floor, Did You See Evie? is a compulsively readable thriller from a true virtuoso of the genre – Miranda Smith.

With a highly saturated genre there are always going to be books that follow a similar formula and they can end up predictable in some ways – which isn’t necessarily the worst thing. However, there are those that keep you on your toes and throw you a curve ball with almost every chapter. DID YOU SEE EVIE? is one that falls under the second category. While this is probably more medium paced, but definitely not anywhere near a slow burn, Smith knew how to keep us guessing from the very start to that build up of an ending. Red herrings and deception always make for an engaging read. After having a couple of lackluster reads recently, this was EXACTLY what I needed and wanted. I don’t want to give away too much and take away from the experience you’ll have, but just know that you’ll need to carve out some time before starting, because you won’t want to put it down. Now, I need to find Miranda Smith’s backlist!

I'm what you'd call a seasoned Smith reader and a new release is always eagerly anticipated.
Did You See Evie? was a pacey page turner, and as always was an entertaining and engaging read.
It kept me on my toes throughout and I didn't know who I could trust, whether they were an unreliable narrator or was it just Smith trying to throw me off kilter. Those twists just kept a comin'!
Characters were complex and I couldn't really take to any of them. I have no idea why, but it didn't stop my enjoyment of the book.
Secrets will always out and karma seeks her revenge just when you least expect it!!

Did You See Evie? by Miranda Smith
First of all I have to say I love the book title so much. Clear, eye-catching and it leads you straight into the book.
So, did you see Evie?
The story started with a sleepover celebration of the school basketball team. Cass, who's the coach led the girls team won the game. Evie, one of the players who always drew Cass's attention, as her family background and personality were quite different from the other teammates. When Cass woke up the next morning, Evie disappeared. Was her disappearance related to Coach Cass?
The plot was a wow. The twists and turns drove me to nowhere. I thought I knew the ending, but not. The author Miranda Smith built up the tension in a totally different way. The depth and excitement were what the thriller readers needed.
Many thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and the author for my copy.

An exciting sleepover to celebrate the elementary school’s success as local basketball champions goes horribly wrong when one of the young team players goes missing. With hardly any explanation as to why Evie has disappeared Coach Cass is determined to discover where her star player has gone but with the police also investigating the disappearance Cass is worried that some of her own secrets may get uncovered.
This is a lovely slow burner of a thriller which sets the scene perfectly. We get to know more about the girls in the team, their privileged backgrounds no excuse for bad behaviour and yet there is far more to this clever mystery than team rivalry. I enjoyed piecing together the pieces of the puzzle, especially as we get to know more about Cass, who is an extremely good basketball coach and yet she is held back by shadows from her past which threaten her judgement and fill her with indecision.
Cleverly done, with several twists and turns I didn’t see coming, and an ending which brings all the complicated strands of the plot together, Did You See Evie? captured my imagination and I finished the book in a couple of sittings as I couldn’t put it down until I knew just what had happened on the fateful night that Evie disappeared.

Smith is one of those authors that when they put out a new book, I want to read it. She writes thrillers that are full of deception and twisty. While the main focus of this book is finding Evie, there are red herrings and twists along the way that threw me for a loop. I enjoyed that the story felt like a flaky pastry, full of wonderful, fulfilling layers.
I appreciated the way that Cass handled the situation. So many books have the characters become investigators and they some how are able to figure out things that the police can’t. In this one, when Cass found out more information, she went to the police and informed them of the information. It just really gave it a realistic feel.
The writing is easy to read. It flows nicely and the pacing is on point. It’s very easy to read this book in a single sitting, or over a day or two. While the big reveal at the end was super surprising, the ending itself was really great. I would highly recommend this book!

My 3rd book by Miranda Smith and this one deserved nothing less than a 5 star rating! What a brilliant story that kept me guessing all the way through.
Cass was a very talented basketball player in her youth, and she has used that talent and experience to now be the head basketball coach at the private and prestigious, Manning Academy. She loves the teenage girls she coaches and the team she has built but feels a special kind of empathy for one girl called Evie. Evie doesn’t have the usual wealthy elite Manning Academy upbringing that the other girls do, her background is very much like Cass’s own poor troubled childhood, and so Cass feels a connection with Evie. Cass is a role model for the young girls in the team, soon to be married to her fiancé, Connor, in a year’s time and working in her dream job, so life is good. However, she is hiding secrets from her past that she doesn’t want anyone to know about, even Connor. When the girl’s basketball team win the district championship, the school rewards the girls with a lock-in for the night at the school and everyone is excited. However, when one evening Cass runs into an old friend of hers, Nadia, who has recently returned to town, Cass feels uneasy as Nadia knows all the past shared history and secrets she is hiding. Despite Cass moving on from her troubled childhood it seems that Nadia hasn’t and is still involved in the illegal schemes Cass used to be in too. Now she wants to pull Cass back into the life she thought she’d left behind. Nadia’s scheme is to steal the expensive Manning Academy I.T equipment and all Cass has to do is leave a door open on the night of the lock-in. On the night of the lock-in Cass feels she has no choice but to go along with Nadia’s plan or risk losing everything she holds dear and so she does what is asked of her. Four hours later, when she wakes in the early hours, not only is the door shut and the I.T equipment untouched, but more importantly Evie is missing, and no one has seen her. The police are called and launch a search for the missing teenager. Will they be able to find Evie who has mysteriously vanished into thin air?! And during the investigation might the details of Cass’s criminal past be revealed which she knows will blow her whole life, as she knows it, apart to smithereens!!
Well, this was just a fantastic read. I felt so sorry for Evie but also for Cass, who despite trying so hard to turn her life around, is blackmailed into being someone she doesn’t want to be anymore. I hated the cliquey mothers of the girls on Cass’s team and their daughters weren’t much better, Miranda Smith really did a good job writing such unlikeable characters. There was one character who I didn’t trust or like right from the very beginning (again sorry for the mystery but my reviews are spoiler free) and they did end up being untrustworthy but not for the reasons I thought! As a reader, I really felt the tension in the chapters that involved the lock in and indeed the general eerie atmosphere of the school that late at night so, again, such great writing from Miranda Smith. The twist absolutely blind sighted me! As a seasoned psychological thriller fan sometimes I have an inkling of how things might turn out or what the twist is but this twist totally came out of the blue for me, which was just fantastic!
Overall, this was brilliant. I highly recommend this for any psychological thriller genre fans and believe it wholeheartedly deserves a 5 star rating!
Thank you to NetGalley, Miranda Smith and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out now.

Oh my goodness!!! What did I just read? Evie goes missing after a locked in the school gym sleepover. How is that even possible? The book kept me up because I couldn't fall asleep until I knew what happened to Evie. Coach Cass was a great teacher and we really got to know her backstory.
If you like a story that will keep you guessing until the end, this book is for you. Miranda Smith has a great way of dropping in red herrings and a quick pace. She’s a must read author for me! Many thanks to the author, Bookouture and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of the book. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
