I really wanted to love this book, the premise was promising but unfortunately it missed the mark for me and I had to dnf at the 40% mark. Parts of what I read felt forced and unnatural. I wish this book could have gelled better for me.

Cute modern fake-fiancée story
Ben is the stereotypical stiff suit who doesn't have time or patience for a relationship, and Tuesday is the manic pixie who is obsessed with a movie star to the point that she stalks him as well as the places in London that were featured in his films. Thankfully, as the story progresses we see more deeply into these characters so they can rise above their initial impressions.
Told entirely from Tuesday's POV, we're given little to form an independent opinion of Ben, though he is quite competent at explaining himself when necessary. They meet when the bank she works for assigns his portfolio to her, making him her client. I wasn't quite sold on the absolute pressing need of his to pretend to have a fiancée in order to close an important deal, and it wasn't really clear by the end of the book if the deal was even going to go through, so the premise itself ended up being a bit of a throwaway once it served to force our main characters to interact closely with each other.
Couldn't give this five stars because of two things that were unnecessarily cringey and overdone to the point that I was yelling "Enough!" at my ereader -- Ben consistently and deliberately messes up her name, and she consistently and creepily compares him to her favorite Hollywood actor, especially because they look alike. Eww.
I did enjoy the book overall, as the romance was sweet and had its funny moments, with plenty of steam and clever, witty banter. There was quite a bit of deep soul-searching on Tuesday's part, processing what she'd learned about herself from her previous relationship and figuring out what she needs in this one to feel seen and heard. As a contemporary rom-com, it was well worth reading.

This story, for me was a proper Rom-Com….the comedy isn’t too much, it’s not forced or added for the sake of it. It’s more like conversational wit between the characters that makes you smile or endears you to them even more.
The romance is a decent build of them getting to know each other along with an obvious attraction and chemistry from the very start.
Tuesday is a breath of fresh air in Ben’s life. The author has done a wonderful job keeping both Ben and Tuesday true to their characters. I loved how Tuesday coaxes him out of his stoic persona and sees the gentle hearted man beneath and I really appreciated how well he read her and gave her the time and respect she deserved to come to her own decisions…even if it could have been detrimental to his own happiness!
The ‘movie’ storyline that runs along side Ben and Tuesday’s journey is a clever addition and it gave yet another layer of both fun and romance. I also loved the visit to the country!
Such a wonderful escape that I devoured very quickly. I enjoyed the time spent with both of these characters and was sad to leave them.

An American In London Is British billionaire Ben Kelley and American Tuesday Reynolds mistaken identity romance. I loved everything about this book from the characters to the narration and everything in between. It’s a well written, entertaining and engaging read that took me away from real life.
An accidental meeting where Tuesday mistakes Ben for her teenage crush actor Danielle De Luca which leads to so much more…..
I smiled and I swooned as I cheered this couple on.
I received an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley.

Tuesday has arrived in London after her life in New York blew up. She is ready to concentrate on proving that she is management material. She does not expect to keep running into the same taciturn businessman or to be asked to pose as his fiancee for a weekend. Slowly, Ben begins to open up to the sunshine that is Tuesday, and they fall in love. But she is heading back to New York, and he has to stay in London.
I loved these characters, and Erin Mallon did a fantastic job of acting them out. Her Tuesday is bright and cheerful without being cloying or one dimensional. I could hardly stop listening, and I got teary eyed at the end.

🤍 Book Review – An American in London by Louise Bay 🤍
An American in London is such a fun, flirty, and feel-good romance! I really enjoyed Tuesday and Ben’s story. Tuesday is a bubbly New Yorker trying to save her career, and Ben is a grumpy British businessman who needs a fake fiancée. Their chemistry is instant, and watching their fake relationship slowly turn real was adorable and swoony.
The fake dating trope is done really well here, with just the right amount of tension and slow burn. I loved the contrast between Tuesday’s fun, outgoing personality and Ben’s quiet, brooding charm. Their banter made me smile, and the romantic moments totally delivered!
The side characters, especially the Duke and Duchess, added extra charm, and the London setting gave everything a little fairytale sparkle. This was a sweet and dreamy read with a perfect happily ever after!
Very grateful to the publisher for my copy through NetGalley, opinions are my own

An American in London by Louise Bay is a swoony romantic comedy that hits all the right notes—witty banter, charming characters, emotional growth, and just the right touch of spice. As a longtime fan of Louise Bay, I had high expectations, and this book exceeded them.
Tuesday Reynolds is in the middle of a life upheaval—her fiancé has left her, her job in banking is on shaky ground, and she’s trying to figure out what’s next. A soft-hearted, people-pleasing New Yorker, Tuesday’s journey of self-discovery is heartfelt and engaging. I’d love to say more, but I don’t want to spoil the fun of watching her growth unfold.
Enter Ben, a grumpy British billionaire who just so happens to look like Tuesday’s former teen celebrity crush. He’s the perfect rom-com hero—reserved on the outside, but unexpectedly tender and thoughtful. I absolutely loved him. His chemistry with Tuesday is electric, and the fake fiancée trope is handled with more emotional depth and originality than expected.
The supporting cast adds depth and warmth to the story. I loved each of them from Nick, the duchess, Megan, and even Gail.
Louise Bay’s writing is effortlessly engaging, blending humor, heart, and heat with flawless pacing. Sweet, funny, and genuinely touching, An American in London is the kind of feel-good romance I’ll happily reread. It was exactly what I needed.
open door scenes but not a lot of detail
some profanity - 11 uses of the f word.

This is my first book from the author and I really enjoyed it.
It's a feel good rom-com with banter, laughs, and a delicious grumpy billionaire.
Tuesday and Ben's fake relationship was the perfect palate's cleanser I needed.
The book contains quite classic tropes but done beautifully and with that little something more that stand out : the rom-com movies references that made me laugh so much !
With that, a good writing, a good pace.
Perfect for a beach read !

I soo enjoyed this book. Ben and Tuesday’s opening conversations had me giggling while reading in the laundromat, I probably looked like a loon! But Tuesday’s extreme cheerfulness vs Ben’s complete closed off vibe just really killed me. The way Ben’s little corner of his mouth tips up at her antics, and how he eventually softens to her, even when he’s being absolutely contrary - be still my heart! Not to mention his take-charge, protective attitude, even in the first part where they barely know each other. I was heavily swooning already in the first 15%. I loved Ben so much throughout, this didn’t change one bit. And Tuesday is refreshing and fun too.
This book definitely falls into classic romance tropes - business guy needs to look like a family man to impress a bigwig, enter fake dating. But the characters and writing are a big draw, they are so fun.
The actor theme throughout the book was a bit much but I could also see how it served as a thread of time through the book as well as connection to her mother and demonstrating Tuesday’s growth over time. So, ok. I let it go.
The characters, writing, and dialogue are so clear that this almost reads like a romcom movie, in a good way. It really made it a treat to read.
As an American living in the UK (though not London) this tickled me a bit too. Even the stuff about talking how she’ll be kind of accepted by way of being an outsider totally made sense to me and how people received her.
This is a whirlwind romance that just made me giggle, swoon, and then teary-eyed when it was (seemingly) time for it to end. I loved them and their story so much and was so glad when their happily-ever-after came around.
If you want a classic, easy, heart-warming romance/romcom that just fills you up and that you can’t put down, this is absolutely it. Just reminded me why I really enjoy Louise Bay books, she writes cleanly and simply and just carries across a great, solid romance with heart.
Highly recommend this one if it sounds like your thing!
5/5 ⭐️
I received an advance copy of the book and have left my honest, influence-free review

Entertaining, sweet & spicy
AN AMERICAN IN LONDON was a fabulous read. Louise Bay delivered an entertaining, sweet, spicy, grumpy/sunshine, fake relationship, slow burn romance which had laughs, swoon, and plenty of romance. If you want a story that reads like a fairytale, then this is the one.
Tuesday Reynolds is a New York banker who is in London to prove her worth and save her job. She's grieving the loss of a decade long relationship and missing her mum, especially since their favourite movie star is in town. Then there's Ben Kelley, the man with the movie star looks, the billionaire businessman who has found himself in a bit of a dilemma. A Duke and Duchess, A need for a business deal, a fake relationship, and an unexpected journey into love, all ensuring a story which captivated my heart.
I loved both Tuesday and Ben, both felt the effects of their past and strived to make their lives better. Tuesday was relatable, her emotions, her nervousness, and her ability to go with the flow all made her an endearing character. Ben was simply magnificent. Once I knew his secret, he completely won my heart, he may have appeared to have a gruff exterior but inside was a cinnamon roll. Of course there's a couple of hitches along the way, but when does love ever run smoothly?
AN AMERICAN IN LONDON is another wonderful read from Louise Bay.
Read and Reviewed for Reading Is Our Satisfaction

I will say this book started kind of slow for me. Several times I thought that I wasn’t too crazy about it.
But, stick with it. When it finally starts rolling and the fake dating/engagement starts - it will all be worth it. 💗💗
Ben and Tuesday are so wonderful together. He is uptight and British and she is non filtered and American. Together they bring out such banter and sweetness in each other. I LOVED them together and while it was a slow burn as well, it is so worth all the wait.

Gah! This needs to be a HM movie! I laughed and I cried happy tears. I love the support system and the new found friends. Ben is amazing in all his awkward glory. He is a giant cinnamon roll under his straight forward persona. He is caring, loyal and funny. Tuesday always goes along with everyone and she is a hard worker. She finally finds herself and learns, sometimes you have to look back to move forward. She needs to decide what she wants for once. I enjoyed finding the little nuggets of other books. This is worth the read and is a stand alone romance.

Louise Bay brings a charming, flirty escape to life in An American in London, blending her signature wit with a dash of British decorum. When Tuesday Reynolds flees a crumbling life in New York for a spontaneous reset across the pond, she’s not expecting to end up fake-engaged to a reclusive Brit with secrets of his own. But that’s exactly what happens when she meets Ben Kelley—a private, prickly man who just might be her unexpected match.
What begins as a carefully staged performance quickly spirals into something far less scripted. Bay excels at building simmering tension between two people who seem utterly mismatched on paper but somehow just fit. Tuesday’s heart-forward openness softens Ben’s hard edges, while his grounded steadiness gives her a place to land. Their chemistry feels organic, electric, and emotionally earned.
The backdrop of London adds a layer of escapist charm, making this book feel like a rom-com movie you’d want to rewatch on a rainy weekend. With just enough spice, plenty of playful banter, and a couple of moments that tug at the heart, this is a story about rediscovering joy, redefining home, and finding love when you’re least looking for it.
Final Thoughts:
This is a swoony, satisfying romance with depth beneath the flirtation—a story that reminds you it’s okay to start over, and sometimes crossing an ocean is the first step toward coming home.

An American in London was such a sweet romance. Tuesday was absolutely adorable and I loved how fierce she was about figuring out her place after her decade long relationship ended. Her desire to explore herself and find what she wants was refreshing and I laughed so hard at her silly antics trying to find her childhood movie star crush. Enter Ben, the movie star look alike and how they keep ending up at the same places. Ben is reserved and shy and I thought it was just adorable how these two ended up together.
I loved the Duke and Duchess and the emotional depth contained within these pages. It was truly just such a fun, sweet, romantic story and I loved all of the characters and the ending had me smiling so hard at how adorable Tuesday and Ben are and how perfect their HEA was for them.
Erin Mallon did a fantastic job voicing all of these characters and really captured the breadth of emotions between them as well as Ben's awkwardness. I felt like I was living this story right along with them.
Thank you to Louise Bay, Netgalley and Brilliance Publishing for the ARC/ALC.

An American in London was a slow burn read! It took me a bit to get into the story but about half way through it started to become more enjoyable.
I liked the characters, I liked how the storyline went but honestly the repetition of the movie star was a bit strange!
A fake relationship ensues between Tuesday and Ben, where he’s trying to impress a Duke and Duchess. Needless to say nothing goes entirely to plan.
Grumpy Ben may realise he likes her more than he should. Or does he and what happens when Tuesday needs to return home?
A good read!

Louise Bay has done it again—and if you’re anything like me and LIVE for tropes like forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine, and a slow burn, then An American in London needs to be on your radar immediately. I pulled an almost all-nighter to finish this 💫
Tuesday and Ben - ugh such a good pairing! They’re so cute with their banter. I was going to include some quotes but I didn’t want to give any spoilers away (but *swoon).
As a longtime Louise Bay fan, I can confidently say this one will not disappoint. Hit that pre-order button ASAP!
Big thanks to NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC—I’m so grateful for the chance to read this early.

As ever Louise has written a heart warming book, Ben and Tuesday story was a delight to read, mistaken identity, fake engagement are a few of the trope in this book.
Ben and Tuesday characters were easy to love and there story just flowed.
Loved the epilogue when Tuesday spoke with her dad 🥹
For me it 4 1/2 🌟

Gahh….this book was so so good! I’m so in love with these two. Ben is one sweet MMC. Quiet yet attentive. And I really fell for Tuesday. You can’t help but root for these two. I kicked my feet so many times. Definitely a five star read from Louise Bay!
Tuesday is in London for work but she also gets to see where her actor crush made some of the movies. But when she mistakes a stranger for the actor, she never would have dreamed she would soon be a fake fiancé. We follow along as these two fake their relationship yet fall in love while faking it. I couldn’t put this book down. And some of the scenes will melt you. I lived everything about this story. Everything!
Highly recommended.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

✨ Review: An American in London by Louise Bay ✨
Ben and Tuesday walked so every hopeless romantic could believe a British businessman might buy them a restaurant just for a vibe.
We’ve got:
A charming Brit (Ben)
A rom-com-obsessed American (Tuesday)
A case of mistaken identity — “Wait, are you that movie star?” — and a question that lives rent-free in your brain the entire book
A fake fiancée arrangement that quickly turns into real feelings and real blushing
Ben? Absolute green flag king. He:
Watches her favorite romance movies to prep for their first date
Recreates a garden dance scene like he’s in a Hallmark fever dream
Buys. Her. A. Whole. Restaurant. (sir???)
It’s all fake until it isn’t, and all fun until your heart unexpectedly melts into a puddle.
This book is pure rom-com serotonin with just the right dash of spice and a big scoop of fantasy-boyfriend energy.
Final rating?
Swoony. Spicy. And so, so British.
10/10 would fake-date Ben any day of the week — including Tuesday.
🌟 4 / 5 Stars
🌶 2 / 5 Spice

Straight outta the movies! Are you sure Ben wasn't DDL? He was ALL.THE.SWOON, I absolutely loved this book and his story with Tuesday. This one gave me all the feels, all the tropes and such a feel good factor book. Who doesn't love a billionaire who is so emotionally mature and patient? - He's a tad grumpy but honestly, that's just adds to the optics - Yum!
I loved Tuesday's journey, finding herself again after so many years lost and just riding the waves of life during that time. It was an emotional journey for her and I really enjoyed reading it. Louise has smashed yet another one out the bag, her writing is brilliant.
