Devoured this book. I did not relate to Jane one but but loved her journey. The twist got me pretty good. What a crazy group of friends. Loved the ending! Would not mind hearing more from these characters!

While I’m not sure how I feel about the inspiration for the story so closely resembling the real case, I enjoyed this!

I’m a big Winstead fan and had seen her posts regarding the sensitive subject matter prior to reading and was glad I had. Otherwise I think it would’ve been jarring and I do think the same story could’ve been accomplished with less similar details.

But! A great mystery with great, complex characters. Points a spotlight on the grotesque voyeurism of the true crime community and its interference in investigations. As well as our tendency to write people off as good or bad based on their appearance and how they carry themselves.

The writing style of this didn’t work for me at all. It starts with the protagonist’s father dying, so it’s understandably emotional, but it’s too overwrought for me. She talks about handling foreign coins her father gave her as if they are whispering the world’s secrets (or something like that) and I was like 😐 But I understand that works well for other readers!

This Book Will Bury Me by Ashley Winstead is a gripping and emotionally charged novel that blends suspense with a haunting exploration of trauma, relationships, and self-discovery. I found myself hooked from the start, thanks to Winstead’s raw writing and compelling characters. The plot, centered around a woman named Jane navigating her own dark past while trying to uncover buried secrets, kept me intrigued.

However, as much as I appreciated the dark, atmospheric tone and twists along the way, there were times when I felt the pacing was a bit off. Certain sections felt repetitive, and the narrative dragged in places where I wished it had been more concise. The ending, while satisfying in some ways, felt slightly rushed and left me with more questions than answers.

Overall, This Book Will Bury Me offers a lot in terms of emotional depth and suspense, but it didn't fully hit the mark for me in some areas. It’s a solid read for anyone who enjoys psychological thrillers, but it could have used a little more refinement. I’m giving it 3 stars—not bad, but not quite amazing either

When several students are murdered, how far will she go to find the killer? Is one of her new "friends" the killer? Leslie Howard, thank you for your spot on narration.

I was already a fan of this author and was thrilled to be able to read and to listen to this book! The story is about Jane Sharp, a college student whose father dies, and her grief puts her into something of a tailspin about her present and future direction. She becomes fascinated with a true crime group on the internet and from there, the die is cast as the group is like a buzzing hive regarding the murder of 3 sorority girls in Idaho. Jane is one of a smaller group who band together to physically investigate the crime, and not just on the internet. An unsolved murder had occurred in Oregon and in looking at crime scene photos, the team spotted an eyelash that turned out to give DNA evidence, so the friends were working on two crimes at once and they seemed unrelated.

There was a lot of back and forth that seemed difficult to follow in audio, so I backed up and listened several times.

In the end, the culprits were the ones I had guessed, and the ending was satisfying. Jane and her mother went to scatter her father’s ashes after she finished working through her grief.

4 stars! I enjoyed the book and look forward to the writer’s next effort. The narration was really excellent and gave many variations between all the characters.

The plot has layers and contains many twists, most of them were guessable but they were still executed well. It was engaging as a thriller, but the reader was also following Jane as she processes and moves through her grief. It's a statement about obsession with true crime and the consequences, found family and loss. And the narration added to the story.

It’s a story that easily sweeps you away and you can’t help but be caught up in the obsession, but in saying that, it is also very predictable and the journey just wasn’t very exciting - I do think this is down to the Audiobook narration though, as it came across in a young adult way and any suspense or darkness was lost.

It does capture sleuth culture quite well and also that of wanting to find somewhere that you fit in, showing a more unconventional place in which some find to do this.

So while I don’t recommended grabbing the audiobook, I have heard good reviews from others who have physically read it and maybe that’s more the way to go.

This book was a perfect true-crime thriller. I have never listened to an audiobook before and I did truly enjoy listening to this book uncover crime right before me. I liked the fact that Jane is telling it like an autobiography/documentary about herself and how she got to where she is now in true crime. It was a perfect thriller for me!

I was hooked and captivated a couple of chapters in and couldn’t stop listening to This Book Will Bury Me. I really liked the internet sleuth and online forum aspect of this book. How a group of people who didn’t have a lot in common banded together to help solve crimes and bring justice. Although I may have figured out the twist, I was still entertained and enjoyed reading the book.

I will say that I understand the controversy surrounding this book because there are a lot of similarities to a case that goes to trial later this year, but there are also a lot of differences and I’m glad I gave it a chance.

Ashley Winstead is one of my auto-buy authors. This one was worth the hype. I was hooked from the beginning! I thought that the narrator was great and the audiobook was very well done. This story did remind me of a situation that happened in real life...not sure if this was supposed to emulate it but it was still a well written suspenseful thriller.

I was so incredibly excited and grateful to receive an early copy of this audio.

I want to preface this by saying that I think Winstead is an incredibly talented writer, and I have loved all of her other books within the genre. I have given all of them 5 stars in the past - so I was expecting that this would be the same for me. However, I am sad to report that it was a huge let down, this was one of my most anticipated books of 2025. I think that the narrator did a phenomenal job, so that was not the problem. For me, this book feels like it was not written in a way that the author is respecting the families of this very real, and too close to the actual story, fictionalized account.

I also felt like I was reading two different books. The beginning half was very slow and it felt like we really got to know our MC. However, the second half felt like a totally different story and character had emerged. I overall wasn't a fan of this one. I will read whatever Winstead comes out with next, but I will not be recommending this to others. I think if you are new to her writing, the other works within the genre are a better place to refer to.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a great job, I felt like she really added to the book. I was hooked from the beginning and enjoyed the author’s writing style. Highly recommend this one!

It's really quite gross to use so many details from such a brutal (and recent!!) crime to make your book more interesting. These victims were real people their family and friends are still grappling with the after effects of this, and the trial is STILL GOING ON. The author hardly tried to change any details, instead choosing to have our precious narrator "feel" what the victims felt. This is shameful.

A great suspenseful mystery for fans of true crime. After her father's sudden death, Jane Sharp, becomes part of a group of armchair detectives trying to stop a possible serial killer. Although the book was predictable, Winstead added suspense and enough characterization to keep the reader engaged. This book will be easy to recommend to readers who like true crime mysteries.

Obsessed! I could not stop listening to this! The story line was fun and the narrator did a great job. The story follows a lovable group of internet detectives as they try to solve crimes. I thought it was a fun take on true crime.

This Book Will Bury Me is an excellent medium-paced mystery that kept me engaged throughout. The author utilizes one of my favorite storytelling methods: interwoven timelines. The characters were well drawn & brought to life vividly. Case in point: the female main character was so oblivious at points that I was physically cringing at her decision-making, not because it wasn't well written but because I was so pulled into the plot. The initial crime draws heavily from the Idaho murders which may bother some readers; however I felt the story took its own unique direction which made the inspiration less of an issue. I enjoyed unraveling the many layers of mystery as the story came to a close and was ultimately impressed with the ending the author devised. The audio narration was excellent and added to my experience of the book. Overall this was an entertaining and captivating read.

As someone whom is fascinated by true crime and particularly enjoys when difficult cases are solved with the help of amateur sleuths, I was the perfect audience for This Book Will Bury Me. But even if you like your crime fictional, you will be captivated by the beautifully told story of a daughter dealing with her grief and attempting to find her place within the world. And the narrator was absolutely pitch perfect! Highly recommend!!

Ashley Winstead is one of my favorite authors for a good mystery or thriller after loving In My Dreams I Hold a Knife. This book did not disappoint. I jointly read and listened to the audiobook, and both were amazing. While the book is long (over 400 pages), the short chapters and the constant need to know what is coming next capture the reader's attention. She included an interesting premise of using a current case and spinning it. I found myself wanting to constantly read or listen to figure out what comes next. I highly recommend this book to any mystery, true-crime, thriller lover!
