A cute, cozy mystery that sees a daughter going on her dead mother's English murder mystery vacation in her place and discovering her mom had been hiding more secrets than she knew. Fans of cozy mysteries, romance and emotionally deep mother-daughter stories will enjoy this new book from Karen Dukess. I thought it was good on audio and an entertaining read that kept me guessing and had a cast of colorful characters. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was more romance/family drama than mystery, which I didn't expect based on the blurb. It was an enjoyable and light-hearted read, just not quite as mystery-centric as I thought it would be. The writing style is easy to fall into and the characters were sweet, and if the whole book was a little trope-filled, it suited the concept and rollout just fine. It was fun to read.

I have two titles of this book on my list, so there must have been a duplicate since this one has no reviews and the other ones has reviews!
I also see this one is publishing in 2050 LOL, so I'll review on the other one!

This was a heck of a lot of fun. Cath is a 34-year-old, semi-reclusive woman living in Buffalo, NY minding her own business when she discovers that her late (and estranged) mother had booked a trip for them both to a small English village for a murder-week adventure. Since the trip is non-refundable, she decides to head over across the pond.
Once there, she gets teamed up with two other singles--a middle-aged divorcee/romance writer and a man whose husband sent him on this trip as a getaway from their birding store back home. As the trio races to solve the ersatz mystery before the other guests, a new mystery emerges for Cath as she tries to figure out why in the world her mother would have planned such a trip for the two of them in the first place.
While you might figure out Cath's story early on, it doesn't take away at all from the fun journey of the whole narrative. Add to that the regular peppering of mystery film/fiction and literature talk and this is a super fun read for book lovers across the board. Highly recommend!

Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of Welcome to Murder Week.
The most exciting thing about the novel is the title.
Welcome to Murder Week is your typical cozy mystery; there's romance, hijinks, and quirky characters.
Except there's no murder. At least, not a real one.
When 34 year old Cath loses her mother to a sudden stroke, she's mostly indifferent. They didn't have the best of relationships.
After discovering her mother had purchased tickets for a 'murder week' in England, she's confused and intrigued by her mother's interest and grudgingly goes on the trip.
And discovers something about herself and her mother she never could have imagined.
I liked the origins of Cath's mom but I didn't like Cath.
What a total bore!
She was a typical main character in these types of novels; no friends, no life, a boring personality to go along with her boring job. She didn't even have a cute pet!
How are readers supposed to care or empathize with someone who has no ambition, doesn't like to travel or do anything with her life.
The story is well written but as dull and boring as Cath. There's no urgency or suspense since the 'murder' is fake.
There are no stakes, even the secret of Cath's mom's origins is a minor subplot.
The ending is HEA, Cath has friends, a hot guy (the men are always hot in books!) and knows where she belongs.
