Thank you so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc of this one in exchange for an honest review!

This book is the third book in a series that follows a magical house.

I did not read the others in this series but I probably should have to get to know the characters better.

I found this book to be fun and full of adventure and magic! The characters were also relatable and fun to read about. I think a lot of kids will enjoy this one.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy

The Bookshop at the Back of Beyond by Amy Sparkes is the third person-POV continuation of the MG fantasy House at the Edge of Magic series. Nine, Eric, Flabberghast, and Spoon are back to finally find Professor Dish. But along the way, Nine believes she’s found a way to learn more about her mother and she is willing to do whatever it takes to get the answers she wants.

The worldbuilding is just as whimsical and cozy as last time and Nine’s narrative voice helps to support the cozier tone. The bookshop itself is full of small dragons, living candles who want candy, and more. Small illustrations at the top of each chapter give readers a visualization for what these fantastical elements are supposed to look like.

Flabberghast’s family once again throws a wrench in everything. His sister and his Aunt Ophidia both make an appearance with his sister somewhat on the side of the main cast this time as she is the one that they turn to in order to free Professor Dish from Ophidia. Considering that the first book culminated with Flabberghast apologizing to his sister in order to end a curse she placed on his home, this made everything come full circle and feel like we could get a bit of closure for their relationship in the next book.

The thing I really liked about this book was that the books in the bookstore are all asking for attention and demanding that the cast buy them. There is something very fun and charming and almost Beauty and the Beast about that and it tickled the nostalgia part of my brain.

I would recommend this to fans of MG fantasy who have enjoyed the previous books in the series

Super cute story, the third in this series. Has all the whimsy and magic any child would love and devour. Curious creatures and characters that are brave and silly and adventurous. Well written with a story that is sure to capture the imagination of every avid reader. Magical fantasy with a touch of Harry Potter and a dash of Magic Treehouse! Loved the adventure!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this story.

I adore this series and this book just adds to it. Nine and her friends are at it again. I loved being able to read this one immediately after finishing Tower at the End of Time and now I will anxiously awaiting The Bookshop at the Back of Beyond’s audiobook and to purchase my hard copy. This is the perfect Middle Grade/Lower Elementary fantasy series and I know my students are going to devour all three of these books and anxiously be waiting for the 4th one with me.

This is the 3rd book in The House at the Edge of Magic series.

Nine is back to sleuthing and trying to save her friends and finding clues about her mother.

I haven't read a lot of fantasy/magic books and I was curious what it would be like in a children's book. In my opinion, it would be wise to read this book (#3) after reading (#1 and #2); I hadn't read the first two books and I think that put me at a bit of a disadvantage.

I would rate this book between a 3 and 4, but rounding up because of my failing to read book #1 or #2 ... and not being a huge fantasy fan.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing | Margaret K. McElderry Books for approving my request to read the advance read copy of The Bookshop at the Back of Beyond in exchange for an honest review.
304 pages, anticipated publication date of Sep 30, 2025.

This book is the third in a series and without having read the first two books, I was admittedly quite lost (that's on me). That being said, the writing itself was wonderful, I liked that the characters had different ways of speaking, so they didn't all sound the same. And the descriptions of said characters and the setting reminded me of all my favorite magical book/movie worlds from when I was younger. It was really a whimsical little world! Obviously don't know anything about the first two books, but based off of this one, I'd definitely recommend it to readers late elementary school age.

Too many things were happening at once. The cast was funny and young readers would love this adventurous series. Even though there was a lot going on it still felt the same as the other books in the series, pretty repetitive.

I have to say this book was my least favorite and I lost some interest while reading. Book 1 and two were so magical, full of adventure and friends and creatures. This felt more like a game where everyone hates everyone, lies are told, secrets kept, gossip given high school type of adventure.

the house is cured and ready to move along to the great beyond. Off to find Dish, ready for answers about Nine Mother and hopefully a way to ge Flabbergasted magic back. Cannot forget the very unwanted family reunion when Ophidia turns up having kept Dish a prisoner in the basement all this time trying to complete the gold formula. Most of the story is about the formula and saving Dish before Ophidia can get her hands on the "gold". There is plenty of magic as Nine ventures from shop to shop in the Beyond but little adventure. Was expecting more. The ending is satisfying and brought everything back to the magical adventure I like to read. On to book 4.

This is such a cute book! I bought the first one and pre-ordered the others because *pretty* edges. I got this one from NetGalley for review, so I’ve read it out of order. I don’t think I’m hurt by it, though. This middle grade fantasy is fast, fun, and full of feisty characters. I love that everything is sentient and talks or moves or behaves in ways you wouldn’t expect. I love the dual plot line, all the enemies, and the lightheartedness feel of the whole thing. I’m definitely reading the rest!

I really enjoyed the magical, book-loving adventure that this tale takes us on! It is the perfect blend of cozy and discovery. This story focuses on a mysterious bookshop with more than what appears to eye, with fantastic world building and secrets hidden in the shelves. This book has it all—books, friendship, and a touch of the fantastical. It felt like stepping into a dream!
