Thank you to Ize Press for approving my NetGalley request! I picked up Lady Devil purely for the cover art, knowing nothing about the story—and I was not prepared. The twists, the taboo themes… there’s a lot to take in. I’m still not sure if this is unhinged in a good way or just outright toxic, but I’m curious enough to keep going.

Set in a historical fantasy world, Lady Devil follows Giovinetta Valdemar, a noblewoman trapped in a forced engagement. Desperate to escape, she ventures into the catacombs beneath her home and makes a wish to the Devil of Ducommun, unknowingly setting off a dangerous chain of events.

The artwork is absolutely gorgeous, but the pacing leans on the slower side. That said, the intrigue is strong enough to keep me invested—for now. So far, I’d give it a solid 4/5 stars.

Trigger warnings: incest (yes, really) and a heavy dose of misogyny.

Thank you to NetGalley and Yen Press/Ize Press for the e-arc!

I went into this story with only the synopsis in mind and I think that was a mistake. The synopsis frames the story as the main character makes a deal with the devil to get herself out of a marriage. That is only part of the story the other half is this forbidden romance between the main character and her twin brother. I am not into reading any stories revolving around incest. Even if one of the characters is not themselves it is still weird. I only gave this an additional star for the artwork but the story was not great and I would not recommend especially if incest is something you are not okay with reading.

If we're talking about toxic, perverse, unethical, and scandalous readings... this would be one of them.

I mean, it's all very shady. But it's already a trend, and it's widely sought after that the more perverse a story is, the more attractive it is. What you're reading isn't common and should be copied or followed.

This isn't the first time I've read something like this, and it won't be the last.

Thank you Yen Press for the ARC I read through NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review.
