Rollercoaster of a read. The depth and emotions are contrary to the book cover. Get your tissues ready. Loads of it.

I had a hard time getting truly invested in this story. This poor woman went through a host of setbacks, and this story is her trying to move past all that and find happiness again. I just found it to be hard to care too much about the ways she went about looking for it. Jumping from one man to another, one of whom is accused of rape, and thinking if she only had a child then her life would be fulfilled. I just didn’t love it. I didn’t hate it, either. But I wouldn’t feel like I missed out on anything if I hadn’t read this book.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ARC.

This is a book about love and loss and how both of those things are multi faceted.

I started out expecting this to be a book with two main characters. Instead I was blown away with a multiple point of view story about characters interwoven with each other’s life. The multi POV Gabe the book much more depth than if it was just one or two points of view.

I thought some of the characters were going to remain as side characters, but I’m glad that we got to explore their story more and to learn more about them. Truly allows for readers to understand what is going on in this book at a deeper level, and allows readers to sympathize with the characters.

I love how the story wrapped up! Ends being tied together, and characters whose journey you were not sure where they were going, beautifully tied in a bow.

Personally, I would not say this book is very spicy. It definitely mentions sex, and has some descriptions of it, but for me, this is tame.

TW/CW:
- Infertility
- Cheating (off-page)
- Miscarriage
- Mentions of rape

Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

I enjoyed reading this book.

After Gracie has a miscarriage, she and Lewis’s relationship isn’t going well and when he betrays her, she feels that things have to end as it’s the last thing she expected from him.

She begins her life again, still trying to come to terms with her grief. Gracie begins to help other women going through the same situations and makes everyone realise that whenever you go through a miscarriage, it’s upsetting and hard to deal with, and it takes time to come to terms with it.

She meets different people throughout the story and one of them Ed, who is also going through something helps her to regain her confidence and self belief.

The other character Maya, who is in a relationship with a psychiatrist lover, the story links to Gracie.

There are some difficult subjects covered with sensitivity which will resonate with readers.

A beautifully told story which I highly recommend

How to Fix a Broken Heart is a warm, witty, and emotional story about starting over after deep personal loss. The main character, Gracie Davies, is at rock bottom—grieving, betrayed, and unsure how to move forward. But with the help of a quirky therapist, her lively sister, and some unexpected new friendships, Gracie begins to rediscover herself.

The story blends heartbreak, humor, and hope in a relatable way. Nicola May does a great job balancing serious topics with light-hearted moments, making it an engaging and uplifting read. Gracie's journey—complete with romantic twists, self-discovery, and second chances—reminds readers that healing takes time, but it’s possible with the right people around you.

This is a perfect pick for fans of heartfelt contemporary fiction who enjoy stories about resilience, friendship, and finding love after loss.

TW: Miscarriage/Loss/Grief/Rape
Oh, what an emotional read!
I'm used to slightly more lighthearted small village stories by Nicola May, but this one still had a community feel and a deeper thread.
Gracie, the FMC, is reeling from a tremendous loss and feels that she doesn't have the support of her partner, Lewis. A betrayal from him is the last straw, and she starts from scratch in her 30s.
I don't want to sit here and regurgitate the story, but it is a beautifully sad story with an uplifting ending.
Gracie is going through such a tough time, and it resonated with me, as I expect it will with many other women out there who have suffered a miscarriage. The grief from that can take a long time to overcome. She became a character who supported other women in a similar situation and hammered home the message that miscarriage, whether an early loss or a later one, hits hard for all.
Throughout the story, she meets several people, and one is Ed, whom she begins to date. His situation is precarious. (Again, I'm not saying anything because - SPOILERS!) But he is a person who helps build her back up again.
We also have a parallel story of Maya and her psychiatrist lover, which weaves in and out of Gracie's with ease as hidden connections are revealed.
All in all it was a great read, and I championed Gracie from the off!
Many Thanks to NetGalley and Storm Publishing for an ARC

I was interested in the premise of this book, and intrigued by the spice level promised. Unfortunately, it was not very spicy. The plot was like watching a train wreck that you couldn't look away from.

What a touching read for anyone who has been through miscarriage, IVF, loss of a child. This was so well wtlritten. It was made even more touching when I read the author's notes at the end and realised she had been through so much, yet captured the emotions perfectly.

Thank you for this.

I’ll start by saying if you’re sensitive to any talk of pregnancy or fertility in general then be mindful before starting this book.

That being said as a while I did enjoy this story. The beginning left me questioning whether any of the men would be redeemable or if I cared enough to wait to learn everyone’s story, but as the story progressed I really became interested in the characters and their journey.

I’m glad the ending tied up all the loose ends and gave Grace the happy ending she so rightfully deserved after all of her hardships.

This book was a bit of a hard read for me but as the story goes on the mood picks up and gets … heartwarming. This book brought up so many different feelings, love, heartbreak of many kinds and friendships!!
The author really tackled the subjects with care but also showing the real, raw context around them and I truly loved this book!

New Review: How to Fix a Broken Heart by Nicola May

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Where to start? I'm writing this review having just finished reading this book. The tears are still flowing after reading this emotional rollercoaster of a book. The book follows the main character Gracie who experiences a loss of a pregnancy. The story follows Gracie's experience of grief and the falling apart of her relationship followed by her trying to rebuild her life.

This is a heartbreaking, moving book which talks openly about subjects which are often considered taboo. There are also moments of joy, laughter and love felt by the characters which helps to lighten the load of the difficult narrative. A perfect read for the weekend.

Thank you so much to @author_nicola and @stormbooks_co for letting me read this book through @netgalley before its publication date on 16th April.

A lovely book. It moves through a gamut of emotions, sorrow and joy. It deals with painful subjects yet has a light touch. I found it a great read. The characters are fun and interesting highly recommend.

Listen, I rarely give one star reviews, because writing a book is hard, but this book bothered me for so many reasons.
Let’s start with the lack of trigger warnings. This book does have mention of miscarriage, sexual assault, eating disorders, and fertility trauma. I for lack of better words hated that a false rape-accusation was apart of the subplot. It served no real purpose or drive to the plot itself other than the fact that no one seemed particularly that bothered by it.
Which leads me to my next issue, Gracie was continuously in a loop of juggling (and sometimes overlapping) men who were always the problem. I mean it was just her jumping from one bad to another. And every issue she had with a man, she’d resolve within a few pages no matter what it was. There was no emotional depth to her (probably because she went to therapy once a quarter).
Speaking of every few pages, the commentary on Gracie’s body was so excessive. All she talked about was how much she hated her body, and once she started losing weight, then she, along with everyone around her, started commenting on how much better she looked CONSTANTLY. At one point she actually said that [exercise] ALLOWED her to eat [food]. That line really solidified the one star read for me. Spoiler alert, that is an eating disorder!! This is nearly as bad as giving false SA allegations a platform.
Next issue: This book gave no emotional investment into any of the characters. I think it was written very passively, in a tell-not-show, sort of way. Everything was written so bluntly or matter-of-facts. There was no dots to connect because everything was stated so frankly. “She was feeling sad because he said that.” type sentences. There’s huge jumps in time and narration where you’re often confused on who is narrating and what they’re referring to in what timeline.
I get the point of this book was to highlight the various factors of being pregnant, but it was doing way too much and yet not enough. And frankly, I don’t think her broken heart ended up being healed. She threw herself into any distraction that became available and kept ghosting her therapist.
This was deeply disappointing to put it simply.

Thank you to Netgalley and Storm Publishing for the ARC!

i’m gonna rate this a 4 star.

i honestly really liked this book. it was so fast paced & i was hooked from the first minute. the different pov’s you get in this story make you so more connected and hooked on the book, i loved reading about every single character. gracie & lewis went through so so much that i can’t even imagine going through but they found their way back together in the end with a baby as well. i’m so happy she didn’t end up with Ed though, did not like him at all.

Wow this has been an emotional, heartfelt and uplifting story from start to finish. It really was a beautiful and moving story, which was so very well written, I am literally in awe of the author, such an amazing job she has done.

The main character Gracie has been through so much already and as the story unfolds, it’s clear to see that life still isn’t easy for her and she still had lots of hurdles to overcome. But with the support of friends and her sister, she pushes forward with positivity despite a couple of stumbles along the way. I really liked Gracie and truly felt for what she was going through, the loss that she and her husband Lewis had to endear is certainly not an easy one, but then experiencing loss of any kind is always difficult.

Yes this story was fairly emotional at times, but there was plenty of uplifting moments, loads of drama and laugh out loud moments. I just couldn’t turn those pages quick enough.

The story didn’t just focus on Gracie and Lewis, you also got involved with other characters within the story, such as Gracie’s sister Noms, her friend Maya and her therapist Scott and two very hot guys Ed and Leo, the latter who also happens to be a film star.

I am already eagerly looking forward to Nicola’s next book when it comes out.

I DNF at 32%. The beginning drew me in and I was loving the characters and storyline but I felt there were too many storylines going on and some of the actions felt rushed and unnatural for me.

This book deals with grieving, loss, and finding yourself. I do love that the author wrote about these topics as I can relate to them. I just did not feel connected to the characters the more I read.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC from Storm Co.

Final rating: 2.5/5 ⭐️

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC!

I didn’t really enjoy How to Fix a Broken Heart. The book felt oddly deep and shallow at the same time—it touched on heavy emotional topics but didn’t handle them with much depth or care. I also found the portrayal of women to be quite derogatory, which made it difficult to stay engaged. The male characters weren’t much better—they were all pretty annoying and lacked the charm or complexity needed to carry the story. Overall, the book just didn’t work for me, though I can see how others might connect with the themes if they're looking for a lighter read with emotional undertones.

I can't recall having read books by this author but I absolutely loved this. A really easy to read book with the main 6 characters interwoven into one story, but each with their own little sub plot. The main character Gracie, 38, who after a long journey with IVF, loses her twins during her pregnancy. Whilst grieving, she is betrayed her partner and loses her perspective of not only herself but her relationship and place in the world. Trying to find her way and worth again, Gracie quits her job, embarks on a love affair and begins to face her biggest fears.

A truly heart warming read of love, forgiveness and new beginnings and a book I highly recommend.

Thank you NetGalley & Storm Publishing for a copy of this e-arc.

This book is very real, emotional and in parts heartbreaking. It touches upon very real subjects that happen more often than not within our world today.

The book deals with some heavy topics such as pregnancy loss, grief, infertility and rape so trigger warnings must be read!

I liked the book, however I just felt that it was a little too fast paced. I also didn’t think it was necessary for the multiple pov.
