BLOOD MOON BY BRITTANY S. LEWIS WAS SUCH AN ADDICTING READ. IT REMINDED ME OF ALL THE BEST PART OF TWILIGHT BUT WITH REAL DIVERSITY AND DEPTH. THIS IS THE WEREWOLF STORY THE YA GENRE HAS NEEDED! MIRA OWENS GREW UP HEARING ABOUT THE LOCAL LEGENDS, CREATURES PROWLING UNDER A FULL MOON. UPON STARTING AT THE LOCAL UNIVERSITY MIRA MEETS THE MYSTERIOUS JULIAN, A BOY WHO WARNS HER TO STAY AWAY FROM HIM. HOWEVER, MIRA CAN'T AVOID HIS ORBIT AND BEFORE TOO LONG SHE IS WRAPPED UP IN THE LOCAL FOLK TALES, MUCH DEEPER THAN SHE EVER IMAGINED.

Britney S. Lewis’ BLOOD MOON was exactly what the book’s premise implies it will be: One excellent, and wildly supernatural, ride.

Blood Moon has been an anticipated book of mine since I first learned about it after seeing a post from Britney S. Lewis on Threads. So when I got the ARC on Netgalley, I screamed! I was so excited to read this book and get the story that so many of us craved while watching the popular Vampire/Werewolf shows and movies.
The story definitely had me hooked especially with a lot of the different mysteries and secrets. However, I will say that the pacing at times was a bit difficult to keep up with and I'd need to turn back a few pages to remember what was happening. Mira also was a bit confusing at times with how quickly her feelings would shift for the love interests which felt very hot and cold. I'll definitely be interested to see how this progresses and changes in the next book.
Love:
- Small-Town Legends
- Lots of Lore
- Werewolves & Vampires (Possibly witches?)
- All the Nostalgia for anyone that loved reading or watching Twilight, The Vampire Diaries, etc
- Enemies to Lovers
- Paranormal Romance
I can't wait to continue the series as the Epilogue left me with a HUGE cliffhanger that needs to be answered ASAP!
Thank you Netgalley for letting me read this eARC.

beyond excited to see this books hit my inbox- this is one of my most anticipated books of 2025 and i will be sure to post my review on all retailers!! 💞

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for approving me to read this, I’m rating it 3.0 - 3.25 stars.
I feel like the first half I was a little on/off enraged by the naivety of our FMC when some of the core clues were plain as day. This also really reminded me of Twilight to a point, and I’m not mad at that, it just didn’t feel unique at first.
Now the last half is where we do a u-turn and things get unique for me and way more interesting. Our main character is unearthing some truths and the mystery that plagued her is starting to unravel much faster, she’s still a little naive but I won’t knock the growth. The story does majorly expand and I like the varying intentions of the characters we’ve gotten to know, it made it a whole lot darker. I’m still on the fence regarding our MMC and the ending cause both are slightly irksome for me personally, but I’m overlooking that in favour of the potential book 2 will bring.
All in all it is a good book, I did read it in one sitting so that should tell you enough, I just had some gripes with the flow and way parts had been written, I wish we started getting some secrets spilled slightly earlier on.

deliciously, vampiric, lycan-ish and YA. i never knew who to trust and still don't. On the surface, it may seem the author is simply replicating the vibes and familiar storyline of Twilight, the vampire diaries, and more. Under the surface, she delivers the promised vibe and revenge of #teamjacob & #damnonandbonnie shippers. While subverting your expectations, and the conventions of the genre. Well done.

Blood Moon by Britney S. Lewis is such a good story. I loved every single second of it and I couldn't be more grateful to have read this book. Super well written too.

I’m obsessed with this book – now I need the second one ASAP!! 🥹💕
At first, it felt like being transported back to my teenage years reading Twilight — very similar vibes for the first 30-40%. But then… mind blown!
I struggled a little at the beginning, but once the two main characters started interacting more and more, I just couldn’t stop reading. The story starts off a bit slow, but once it picks up, it’s fast-paced and packed with intense, emotional scenes.
As a big fan of vampire/werewolf books, I think this is a strong first installment. I’m seriously intrigued to see where the story goes next.
If you’re a fan of Bonnie from The Vampire Diaries and always felt she deserved justice, or if you’ve got a soft spot for Jacob from Twilight, you’ll definitely want to read Blood Moon.
Huge thanks to NetGalley and Britney S. Lewis for the ARC! 💕
🇮🇹:

I struggled with this. The story didn’t really pick up for me until around 60%
I liked the touch of mystery within this, but at times, the pacing felt a bit long winded. I also expected a bit more tension between Julian and Seven, especially when they were suppose to be enemies. I didn’t mind the FMC Mirabella. She was quick to investigate and find answers.
Despite everything, I do see it being a favourite for other readers if they love vampires and werewolves in a college setting.

Thank you Page Street YA for allowing me to read the eARC of Blood Moon. The following included my genuine review of the advanced reader’s copy:
This book is ideal for those who like “teen soap operas” or “teen telenovelas” as I would like to say. When reading I felt like I was actually watching ashow. I see many comparisons via author and others to Vampire Diaries (I’ve never seen), Twilight (which I’ve only seen 1-2x), & Legendborn Cycle series (which is my favorite series of all time, there are similarities but this is not a replica of that).
It was a pretty easy read that I would recommend to those who like those teen dramas and want the book to feel as if they are watching a show.
Mirabella (FMC) frustrates me throughout the book. I feel as if some dialouge (specifically romantic ones) are beautifully written but makes it feel overall dramatic (why I say telenovela/soap opera) — its kinda like when you are young and everything is anplified and the adults around you think you should have your own tv show bc you are being dramatic.
Also, the book is definitely more of a setup for the rest of the series. I really wish Mirabella reflected on things more to help the reader really get a better foundation of what we are walking into for book #2. I also wish the FMC had decided are we going to trust [redacted] or not bc the back and forth with emotions made it feel very hot and cold / flighty overall.
There’s a scene where as the reader I know if X means Y then Y means Z but the FMC doesb’t really put it together until the end.
Generally speaking it was an easy read but I can’t say I am super invested in this story. Based on the ending and author confirmation, there will be a second book, but I couldn’t tell you where that book will take us? Except I hope we learn more about [redacted]’s mom.
Despite all of that my hope and anticipation is that book 2 will be more layered, revealing, and concrete.
Also why does she rarely call her dad, dad? She mainly refers to him as Bobby? But why is that?
Anywhoo, that’s my honest review. If you like to talk more about bookish things, feel free to check out my youtube (@theskyylife)

3.5 stars, rounded up.
Vampires, werewolves and folklore - yes please! Set in a college in the Midwest, the book is filled with hidden secrets, and created a mysterious atmosphere.
I have to say the reason it wasn’t the best read for me was that the pacing was off. The story started strong enough to keep me intrigued (nostalgia mostly) but it didn’t pick up until halfway through and honestly I may have dnf’d it if it wasn’t an ARC read (and also the other glowing reviews).
The latter half of the book was definitely better for me and the cliffhanger!!! I’m excited for book 2!
Definitely one for fans of Twilight or The Vampire Diaries.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
This was a super good YA vampire book, however, I do think it was a little too YA for me, personally. I realllllllly wanted to like it, as I am a huge fan of YA and vampires, but it just was not for me. I did like the premise and the characters and did find myself interested in the past with the MC's mom and what the deal was with everyone telling the MC to leave. Also, huge shoutout to the author for using teenage slang in the correct way and not making it painful to read. I think that made the characters easier to relate to and made it easier to really engage in the book.
It was a little cliche at times, which I know a lot of people love, so I am not raining on anyone's parade here, but I am a little picky when it comes to cliches and there were a few in here that just were a little too much for me. I also think that a lot of the book was spent not really progressing in the story, and was mostly just telling us about mundane, day-to-day stuff for the MC, which makes sense in hindsight, but it wasn't what I was expecting going into this.
Overall, I think it was good and I probably would've been obsessed with it had I read it when I was like 14.
3/5 Stars :)

Blood Moon is legendborn, twilight and vampire diaries roll into one. Fans of sleepy small towns hiding supernatural secrets. Set in a quiet midwestern town, Mirabella, a teenage girl searching for answers after her mother goes missing. As she digs deeper, she begins to unravel not only the mystery of her mother’s disappearance but also the truth about her own hidden heritage. Mira is a real person who is navigating love, grief, and identity.
* Fierce black FMC with witty inner dialogue
* Wolves, witches, vampires - an iconic trio if I’ve ever seen one
* Dark academia (kinda?
* Small town vibes
* Love triangle
* Vivid imagery
* Mystery and thrills

If you're a fan of sleepy small towns hiding supernatural secrets, Blood Moon is the book you've been waiting for. Set in a quiet Midwestern town with more going on than meets the eye, this story explores what happens when local legends about vampires and werewolves turn out to be a little too real.
Pitched as a mashup of Twilight and The Vampire Diaries with a healthy dose of Black girl magic, Blood Moon hits that perfect sweet spot for readers craving both nostalgia and a bit of magic. Let’s be real, my teenage self would have devoured this.
The story centers on Mirabella, a teenage girl searching for answers after her mother goes missing. As she digs deeper, she begins to unravel not only the mystery of her mother’s disappearance but also the truth about her own hidden heritage.
What I loved most was how relatable Mirabella felt. She's not the stereotypical overpowered "strong girl" trope, but a real, layered character navigating grief, identity, and love. The romance element struck just the right balance: sweet and swoon-worthy, making it ideal for YA readers in search of their next book boyfriend.
And the nostalgia? Chef’s kiss. This book gave me the same magical, slightly spooky vibes as the YA novels I inhaled in the early 2000s (yes, I'm showing my age!).
If I had to think of a critique, i'd say the story did take a minute to pick for for me and was a slower read for the first bit. But once the puzzle peaces started coming together in the mystery I could not stop reading.
Blood Moon was fun and heartfelt, and I’m so glad I got the chance to read it. Huge thanks to Britteny S. Lewis and NetGalley for the ARC!

This read has vampires, werewolves, folklore, all relative to New Moon & The Vampire Diaries so it grabbed my attention quickly! It’s set in a university in Kansas City, MO which is refreshing to see having it in the Midwest! This school has a lot more than what meets the eye, so when things start to go wrong around campus it’s hard not to be suspicious. The characters in this read definitely reminded me of Twilight/New Moon which was so fun to see!
While reading, it felt as if the progression wasn’t really linear. It was a pretty good start, but it didn’t start picking up until the halfway point. Although there was some lore provided, it was only mentioned only a handful of times. It would’ve been nice to see more throughout the read, especially with the situations that occurred!!
The FMC & both of the MMC’s felt a bit forced to me as well in a sense, as their personalities just didn’t really resonate with the characters fully at first. I feel like it was trying to figure out which direction to go.
The ending threw me for a loop because there was a perfect ending cliffhanger which kept me on my toes! I was SHOCKED when I got to it! It was something completely unexpected. I’m really excited to read the next book to figure out what happens!

I want to thank NetGalley and Page Street Publishing for an arc of this book.
For the black girlies who love vampires and werewolves but never saw themselves in that world? This book is for you.
This did take a little while to get into and I assume that’s just due to set up and it being the first book in a series. However when it got going it did get going. Getting into all the lore and discovering things for yourself was something i thoroughly enjoyed in the book but also I found it annoying that I could figure things out before the main girl did. But Mira was going through a lot so I’ll give her that.
I think this book was written well and I loved the friendship group Mira had and the college setting of the book. Mira’s dad was great. Her love interests were interesting to get connected to but I don’t think a love triangle was needed especially since the focus was on Julian and it wasn’t equally split.
I only wish that it wasn’t as slow as it was and there was a lot more telling than there was showing. But for the most part I loved the book and thought it was a fantastic entry to the start of a new series.
I’m excited for the next boom because that cliff hanger had me gagged.

I cannot tell you how thankful I am for a book. As a black reader, it was not often growing up that black girls get to see themselves being the one everyone fights to protect and love especially in the popular supernatural fantasy genre that caters to audiences that relegated us to the role of the best friend or sidekick. Blood Moon changed my life, I wish I had this book when I was in my teens because Britney S. Lewis has done is see black girls for the courageous funny and deeply valued that we are especially in young adulthood. The worldbuilding was top tier, I put on rain sounds, and made tea while reading this because the VIBES WERE IMMACULATE. To some, this book will seem tropey or " a boooktok book" ( whatever that means) but it has never featured a black girl at the center of the trope, than it is not overdone in the slightest. What a beautiful, beautiful, adventurous book. WHERE'S MY SEQUEL?!

4.5 stars.
Blood Moon is a fantasy YA book, inspired by Legendborn, The Vampire Diaries, and Twilight—specifically Bonnie x Damon and the werewolves. It follows our 18-year-old protagonist, Mira, in her first year of college as she uncovers the deep secrets of her missing mother, realizing the stories she told her as a child might be true.
At first, I was sceptical about this book since I am not a fan of the Legendborn Cycle, but I had to give it a chance as a huge TVD fan, and I must say I am so happy I did. Even though Legendborn and Blood Moon have similarities, the way Britney wrote these specific things they overlapped in was much more enjoyable for me, and it made me understand more why everyone loved it so much. Both authors have amazing writing styles, but I connected far more to the way Blood Moon was written—I truly felt like I was in this world with Mira experiencing everything she was.
When I began this book, I thought I knew exactly what was going on and I was thinking that it's all kind of predictable (in my notes, I literally wrote: “The mystery surrounding the place is so well done and interesting even tho kind of obvious”), however, most of my predictions were wrong. I obviously won’t spoil anything, but any prediction I made about what each character is was completely off, and I loved that. It truly made me feel like I was there, especially since Mira was just as clueless as I was (but I do have to admit that my girl put some of the things together before me). Obviously, some things were clear from the beginning, but that didn’t change anything about how much I enjoyed it, which is how, in my opinion, you know a mystery is well-written.
The diverse cast was refreshing; all the characters were well-fleshed-out and likable, each with their own story, which made the narrative feel more three-dimensional. Mira was a great protagonist, lovable, fierce, and flawed, I really felt for her, especially when she ended up in situations where I would have just sat on the floor and cried. Her family dynamic was captivating and realistic, but I still don’t get why she called her parents by their first names (I get it with her mother, just not the father).
As for the love interests, they were both nicely done, but sometimes it felt like the author had to shorten the story a lot and I felt like I missed a couple of chapters. The enemies-to-lovers trope didn't work, since they never really were enemies, at least not from Mira's POV. They bickered from time to time, and it did seem that he didn’t like her at first; however, that changed really quickly and I never saw the “hate” between them. Most of the scenes between them were cute, but the constant talk about how they were enemies annoyed me. The other love interest was cute, but we saw far less of him, and I do hope he shows up more in the upcoming books.
The ending was rushed, and I felt like the author didn’t know how to get to the main event in as few pages as possible, so they chose the most improbable thing ever—mc forgetting the only thing keeping them safe. This was completely out of character for them, and it felt kind of lazy, which is truly sad since up until this point, everything was well thought out.
Lastly, since I am not a big romance fan, some of the “too romantic scenes” made me cringe, but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t get over. I do wish we get to see more of the supernatural and the war in the rest of the series, but the romance in this one was still nicely done and I’m sure a big romance fan will love it.
I can’t wait to see what the author decides to do next, and I’m really excited for the rest of Bells story!

I really wanted to like this one but unfortunately I was bored most of the time.
The writing is good and I would definitely check out more books from this author but this one needed work with the pacing.
It felt like ntn happened at first and when things were happening they were rushed? Like the MCs going from “I’m going to stay away from him because he freaks me out” to make out at a party back to “I’m staying away from him” ?
The mystery around her mom and everything she didn’t know lost me as well. After a certain moment I didn’t care about it and didn’t care about finding out what it was. Theres only so many times I can read “I can’t tell you” before I lose interest.
Blood moon might be an interesting read for you if you like everything vampire, werewolf and twilight but be aware that it takes time to really get going

I was in a reading slump before I started this book......it's gone now. I haven't devoured a book like this in a long time! It was so enthralling! It yanked my emotions every which way! This author is a literary genius and I can't wait to read more by her!
