An enjoyable, pleasant read, with very lovable characters. The Scottish highlands provide a magical background for this fun, quirky story.

There are some heavier themes, of grief but handled well and presented in healthy ways that support the story well. Faith is important to these characters, but doesn’t overwhelm the story just builds into the characters development, and allows for some really well developed moments. An enjoyable listen, if you enjoy a lighthearted romance and the Scottish highlands!

Thanks NetGalley & ThomasNelsonFiction for this ARC

Some Like It Scot is such a refreshing story. Basham's Katie and Graham had me smiling like an "idjit" and laughing out loud. I may have even kicked my feet a time or two. Katie's character reminded me, in some ways, of one of my favorite characters -- Anne of Green Gables. Her exuberance for life, ability to find beauty in the ordinary, and her whimsical musings brought an extra lightness to the already charming story.

I listened to the audiobook, and both narrators were fantastic. The accents were perfect, and they drew me in from the start. I felt like I was listening to friends.

Thank you, NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to listen/read and review this gem!

The fmc main character just goes on and on and on and on and on- even on 1.5x speed I could barely stand it! Hardly gets to the story, just yaps. It's like you're hearing every single little tiny thought that goes through her head I HATED it. The mmc was slightly better- at least he kept to the storyline.

Please don't read this book. I wanted so badly to DNF, but my friend and I made fun of it while eating cookies. Also the mmc had a nice voice.

"Oh my goodness! I loved this book. So sweet, so beautiful, and so funny! Well written and very enjoyable. Pepper Basham is a new to me author. 5 ⭐️ to her writing. I loved the scottish setting, the folklore, and wonderful Scottish people portrayed in this book. Graeme is the most giant of cinnamon roll heroes. Katie is the most alive and go-with-the-flow ""mis-adventurer."" You will be laughing along with her in all of her scrapes she gets into. While this book is fun it also deals with themes of grief and disconnected parents. It also mentions God and going to church and the characters' faith in Him. It is not ""preachy"" or pushy, simply the characters have faith and it is shown as characteristics of the main characters. There are no swears or alcohol, and level 1 non-descriptive kisses only. Dual first person present POV. I listened to the Audiobook and the dual narrators were superb and did excellent accents. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. #SomeLikeItScot #NetGalley #ThomasNelsonFiction"

This Is Wonderful!

🌷I was expecting a cute romcom with a bit of a Scottish flare but what I got was an amazing story full of funny, chaotic misadventures, a homey family, faith, tons of Scottish language/ scenery and personal growth!

🌷Both of the main characters are wonderful and the side characters are not far behind. From the knitting ladies to a sweet little boy and even a crazy bird every character was written perfectly.

🌷Also the narrators are top notch! They do a fantastic job at bringing the story to life and keep you wanting to know more.

🌷I absolutely adored everything about this book! Highly recommend it as your next read!

"Life can be hard, humor can be a good weapon to have in defense."

Pepper Basham has done it AGAIN! 💖 Some Like It Scot had me swooning for days with its beautiful, hilarious, and heartfelt story about how genuine kindness and neighborly love can soften even the most guarded hearts. 🥰

Our journey begins with Katie—tall, accident-prone, and a travel writer influencer who has never quite found a place to call home. 🏕️✈️ But her next big story takes her to her ancestral homeland—Scotland! 🇨🇱 And cue the Hallmark music 🎶—because this trip comes with an unexpected bonus: a tall, brooding, irresistibly grumpy Scot named Graeme. 😍💙

Graeme has shut off his heart, but then Katie stumbles (literally) into his world, and suddenly, those walls don’t seem so sturdy. 🏰🔥 Oh, and let’s not forget those lips—because apparently, they make Graeme want to throw away his eyeballs. 👀😂

Both Katie and Graeme are running from painful losses, each with something the other needs. 💔❤️ Will they open their hearts and accept the love waiting for them? Or will the town’s delightfully meddlesome book club (which just so happens to include Graeme’s mom 😏) have to give them a little nudge in the right direction? 📚💘

This book is everything I love about Pepper Basham’s writing—humor, depth, and romance that makes your heart melt. 💕 A perfect blend of laughter, love, and second chances with a Scottish twist. Highly recommend! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

3.5 rounded up to 4

While I enjoyed Kaite and Graeme, I should have looked closer at the category listing on NetGalley because I was not expecting this to be a Christian Romance. Also, what good, steady Christian man offers 'no strings attached' because my mother would be shocked.

Small moments of religious trauma aside, Some Like it Scot had very strong themes of grief, loss, and belonging which I really enjoyed. Kaite and Graeme were two different sides of the same coin and I enjoyed their journey.

This was a sweet story about love, family, grief and acceptance. I usually read rom-coms and while there were so amusing instances in this book, I wouldn’t call it a rom-com. I also had never read a book categorized as a Christian romance before and I wasn’t certain what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. While religion was sprinkled throughout the story, it wasn’t front and center.

Katie and Graham had a not so cute meet, and he definitely was a grump for the beginning of the story, but once we were able to really see him, it was clear that he was a sweetheart. Katie is looking for someplace or people to call home. Each had holes to fill and they fit together and complimented each other perfectly.

The book wouldn’t have been the same without the wonderful supporting characters. I fell in love with a little boy named Lachlan. The author did a wonderful job of building the world and really showing us who the characters are,

I listened to the audio book and I really enjoyed the narration. The male and female narrator each did wonderful Scottish brogue and I enjoyed listening to both of them. The only thing that would have made the narration better would have been if it was done as a duet rather than just dual narrators.

If you are looking for a sweet story, characters to fall in love with and a beautiful story, you will enjoy this book.

I loved this audiobook sooo much! This author writes books with me in mind - I just know it! This particular book gave me all the feels. I felt the mis-adventures through and through. I loved the saving and the mending in this story! You need to read this book! You will love it!

Thanks to NetGalley for this opportunity, all opinions and thoughts are my own.

This book was a slow build for me and felt a little long for the story that it told. I felt like it could have been much shorter. I loved the setting and the found family aspect. Graham’s family really were a great part of this book. There was one plot hole that just bugged me - there is never any explanation as to where Lachlan’s father is during this story. It doesn’t matter but the lack of explanation kept bugging me. The romance grew on me. I was leaning towards a 3 star rating until the very end where it picked up and I liked how it ended.

I enjoy dual point of view first person narration and I enjoyed the performance of both voice actors on the audiobook. Accents are hard and while I’m not certain whether or not the male narrator is actually Scottish but if not, that accent was well done.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the an advanced copy of this audiobook. The thoughts and opinions in this review are my own.

This was my first book by Pepper Basham and I am looking forward to reading more from her. Some Like It Scot was a charming romance delightfully set in Scotland. The grump/sunshine romance was so cute and funny. I really enjoyed all the Scottish customs, folklore, and history. Joshua Manning and Stina Nielsen did a great job with the accents and slang in the dual perspective narration.

Thank you Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for this early copy. All opinions are my own.

ALC for Net Galley

I loved the audio on this one. I thought that Joshua Manning (excellent accent) and Stina Nielson did an excellent job of brining Graeme and Katie to life.

This is an amazing story of love lost, tragedy, challenging family dynamics and find a true sense of home. Katie - "Miss Adventure" is an adorable disaster. Graeme is the grumpy Scot who had his heart broken by his fiancé.

His family and community encourage bringing them together and nature takes its course. His nephew Lachlan even does his part.

This book will make you laugh, cry, and give you lots of warm fuzzies.

This was so cute and wonderfully done! I loved her other book that I read, which is exactly why I chose to listen to this one. The audiobook was fantastic, and the narrator did an amazing job. I highly recommend it to any romcom lovers looking for a Christian element in their stories.

I loved this rom com!! Think of a grumpy bear meeting the clumsiest new born giraffe and they fall in love over a bunch of “meet cute” moments! Waltzing through the night and my heart!

Not only was this book laugh out loud hilarious, but all characters in this book were so endearing. I can relate to the female MC for her height and “gracefulness”. The author is either a tall woman herself, or is very close to someone who is.

The real MVPs are Lachlan and Wedge!!

Not only is this book a great read full of laughter, it also has the best healing vibes for the loss of a sibling. My heart goes out to @pepperbasham and her loss when she started writing this book in 2021. Loosing your sibling impacted your plan for this book, but I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. This book was beautifully written and the emotions were truly heartfelt.

Please readers, go get this book on April 7, 2025. Especially the audio version produced by Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio.

The narrators @stinanielsen.actor and Joshua Manning were perfect!

Thank you @netgalley for this ARC!!

Some Like It Scot tells Katie and Graeme's story when she, a travel writer, finds herself at his familial estate for a three-week Edwardian experience. A little kitschy but quite enjoyable, this story definitely gave me some wanderlust! I enjoyed having a capable female main character to root for and I liked how the story unfolded. I enjoyed the audiobook narration and thought the male narrator was perfect for the character of Graeme, but I didn't think the female narrator's voice matched what I imagined for Katie's character. I recommend checking out this latest book from Pepper Basham!

Thank you to Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio for gifting me with an ALC to review! All opinions are my own.

I love the clever, lightheartedness of Pepper Basham and the narrators of the audiobook for Some Like it Scot checked every box. It was so fun to go on a Scottish adventure with the characters and I can’t wait to read Basham’s next book.

Contains an audiobook review.

This is a kisses only contemporary romcom with some faith elements sprinkled throughout. It's set in present day Scotland but at an estate that is hosting an Edwardian era experience. So the reader gets both contemporary and historical aspects throughout the book.

I found it to be quite entertaining. The banter and puns were top notch. There were some deeper themes woven in with the humor. It was a well rounded book in my opinion.

My friends were actually traveling in Scotland while I was reading this book. It was extra fun to get their opinions on some of the food and culture aspects that were mentioned here and experience by them at the same time. One day I would like to be able to visit myself.

I appreciated the author's note, that is also read in the audiobook, that shed some light on the author's journey in writing the book. It gave even more meaning to some of the aspects of the book.

I really wanted to listen to this book especially because of the Scottish accents. I do not hear written accents in my head and knowing the setting of this book, I knew that hearing it would really help to bring it to life for me. And it did. I do wish that rather than having dual narrators that it was done duet style. Both the female and male narrators did a great job on their own gender's dialogue but I feel like that they were both a bit weak in reading for the other gender. Also, I did notice that the female narrator mispronounced the island where another series by Pepper Basham is set and is referenced in this story. A fan of that series would notice it immediately and be distracted by it like I was. (Skymar)

I was given an opportunity to have early access to the audiobook by Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction Audio. I'm voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for providing this ARC! All opinions are my own. Some Like It Scot by Pepper Basham is a contemporary romance set in Scotland with a dual POV. I listened to the audiobook, and the grumpy MMC's Scottish accent was swoon-worthy! This book will be published on April 8th of this year.
Katie Campbell, an American travel writer, heads to Scotland for her next assignment. She's never truly felt at home anywhere, but when she arrives, she's welcomed by a quirky group of locals who challenge everything she thought she knew about belonging. The story explores grief, found family, and features an adorably awkward meet-cute. There's no spice, and I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more from Pepper Basham! 3.5 stars for me!

Some Like It Scot is an adorable romance about the misadventures of Katie Campbell. Katie travels for work and has become known for all the things that go wrong on her travel adventures. On Katie's most recent trip to Scotland for an 3-week long Edwardian Experience in a stately Scottish Manor. Katie's misadventures start almost immediately upon entering Craighill House. Katie is abruptly greeted by panicking house staff and is accosted by a parrot called Merlin. And if you think that isn't a wild enough welcome, Katie then falls after breaking a stair railing and lands on a gruff local man she will later dub the 'Hot Scot'.

As Katie settles in for the experience, she gets to know her other media cohorts and some of the locals from a nearby town called Mull. Katie unknowingly forms a bond with the Hot Scots' mother after entering her store one day. The local book club that meets there immediately sets to trying to play matchmaker for Katie. With just a short three-week stay before her next assignment, Katie thinks that love is the furthest thing from her mind.

During an Edwardian walk to the village complete with restrictive Edwardian attire, Katie attempts to protect a fellow writer from getting ran over by crazy Kirsti and her bicycle. This backfires and Katie finds herself deep in the loch and in need of rescue. Who comes to her rescue? None other than the Hot Scot ( He does have a name, it's Graeme, but Hot Scot is more fun to say).

Through a series of other misadventures Katie and Graeme get to know each other. For the first time since losint her grandparents Katie begins to understand that home isn't so much a place as it is a person. She finds family and connection with the MacKerrow family, a connection she's been searching for but lacks in her own life.

Graeme and Katie bond over the loss of a sibling. They let down their guards with each other and step out of their comfort zones. They overcome past scars and put their trust in each other.

Thank you so much to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson Publishing for allowing me an early read AND listen to Some Like it Scot. I was approved for both the audio and ebook and had fun using both forms to take in this story.

I enjoyed how God was 'peppered' throughout the reading. I liked that Graeme invited Katie to church to him showcasing the importance of his faith. Katie's praying and gratitude made me smile. This was such a cozy read.

I found Katie's attempts to use humor in even the most unhumorous situations to be relatable. I really loved Lachlan and Mirren and would visit Mull myself just to meet them. This book was a clean romance with lots of humor throughout. I love the grumpy sunshine trope and the found family throughout. This was my first Pepper Basham read and I look forward to reading more of her works down the road.
