Super, super cute book. Love the cadence of the text and that lotl and little are involved in a lot of it. Axo-dad-l has some pretty funny script too! Cute pictures and great message highlighting that it’s ok if siblings are different and argue sometimes- they can always meet in the middle and make up.

4.5/5⭐️

We really enjoyed Axolotl and Axolittle! The story about axolotls was such a hit in our house—axolotls are such a popular topic right now, and it was fun to see them featured in a book for kids. As an educator, I also really appreciated the themes of conflict resolution and embracing differences. These are such important concepts for kids to learn, and the way the story explored sibling relationships was both relatable and heartwarming.

The illustrations were absolutely vivid and awesome—they really brought the characters to life and held my attention for a long time. Honestly, I wish the book was even longer! My child even said he’d love it if there was a graphic novel version that expanded on the story—that’s how much we loved it.

The wordplay throughout the book was so clever and fun—there were lots of laugh-out-loud moments, especially the part with Axodadl, which we thought was hilarious!

I would absolutely recommend this book for families and educators who are looking for a fun but meaningful story—one that encourages empathy, understanding, and acceptance. Axolotl and Axolittle would be a valuable addition to any school or home library!

Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Publishing, and Jess Hitchman for allowing me to preview this title before its publication date on July 8, 2025.

What a fun book! My 6 yr old giggled the whole time reading this. It is a story about a big sister and a little brother who are very much opposites. Chaos ensues and they end up arguing, but (spoiler!) it all works out in the end.

The author manages to use "axo-" throughout the story. I asked her what her favorite part was and she laughed and said, "axo-pickle." IYKYK The illustrations were mostly a bright yellow and pink. There was enough detail to complement the story but not enough to overpower the entertaining words.

I absolutely recommend this sweet and fun book.

This book is an absolute blast! Axolotl and Axolittle perfectly captures the wild, silly ups and downs of sibling life. These two axolotls couldn’t be more different—one’s all about snacks and fun, the other’s a fact-loving little brain—but their back-and-forth of poking, joking, shouting, and making up feels so real (and hilarious).

It’s a fantastic read-aloud for families with siblings or friends who sometimes drive each other crazy but always find a way to make up. The clever wordplay and adorable illustrations make it a total joy for kids and grown-ups alike.

If you want a fun way to talk about getting along and celebrating differences, this one’s a must-have!

I showed the book trailer to this book to several grade levels two weeks ago and the kids were in absolute love! As was I! I couldn't wait to read it and I was so excited to see it show up in Netgalley!

Such.a clever and fun read with amazingly creative wordplay that kids and adults will both enjoy! It flows beautifully! The art is just as attractive as the wording! The sibling relationships are accurate and relatable whether you are human or axolotl! The students in my school are also pretty obsessed with Axolotls, so it's pretty perfect that a title like this is coming soon!

This was a fun read that students and children will enjoy. This book will be great for students who are learning to read and enjoy being able to read parts of the story with their adults. I look forward to adding this one to my classroom library when it publishes. Students will also love that features axolotls as they are very popular right now. It also talks about handling family/peer relationships which is a great topic to cover.

Axolotl and Axolittle are just your stereotypical brother and sister with just a twist - They're axolotls and speak with an axolotl twist. This is a super fun book that young kids will absolutely love! Lots of rhymes and silly words to keep kids laughing!

Axolotl and Axolittle are siblings that do things different way, sometimes play, and sometimes get upset.

Mom review: My kids loved this alotl! It reminded them of each other, while they can be quite the opposite alotl the time, and can squabble, they still love each other alotl!

Kid review: the littlest loved that the words all ended in -lotl and my oldest liked the word play.

Educator review: sometimes we just need a fun book with fun word play. Kids love axolotls and would love this book. Can easily incorporate lessons on opposites, puns, and learning to get along and make up even with friends and people we care for.

Thank you @NetGalley and @SourcebookKids for the advanced digital copy

Axolotl and Axolittle is such an adorable story about two axolotls with very different personalities. A sweet reminder that not all of our friends like to play the same way. Great book for a play based classroom and children of all ages.

This book is going to be an elementary favorite. Students LOVE axolotls! The story was nice short and sweet. It rhymed. I think this book is best for ages 4-8 (kindergarten-2nd grade) The story talks about siblings and resolving a problem and finding joy in spending time with each other. Very cute play on words

Really cute. A fun read aloud with bright, colorful illustrations. The text is just silly enough to tickle kids' funny bones. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for letting me read!

Axolotl and Axolittle was such a fun read. The story follows two siblings that are complete opposites. Which leads to disagreements, as it so often does. But siblings don’t always have to be exactly the same to get along and have fun together.

I can easily see it doing well for storytime at our library with its great rhythm and rhyming.
The high contrast illustrations make it visually attention grabbing and keeping. Most kids love Axolotls lately and my eight year old is no exception. She thoroughly enjoyed the book. It has a great lesson throughout about fighting and making up with a sibling with the help of a parent.
Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebook Kids for the ARC copy.

Such a cute and playful book. The play on words makes the book fun and lighthearted. It’s a playful book about siblings and how they are opposite of each other.

A very cute sibling story with axolotls as the main characters is sure to attract lots of elementary schoolers. The message of being different but still being able to work through problems was shown well in text and pictures.

This was a very cute book of siblings who work through their disagreement. Axolotyls are “in” right now and this book was a huge hit with my 5 year old. The illustrations are eye catching and the story is engaging.

Axolotl and Axolittle is a cute picture book with bright, fun illustrations and funny rhyming. The rhyming is sometimes nonsensical, reminiscent of Dr. Seuss. Axolotl and Axolittle are siblings enjoying life until they get in the way of each other. They eventually work it all out and show their family love and bond.

This is a very cute picture book about two axolotls who are siblings, and as all siblings do, they have different interests and sometimes have a hard time getting along. I also loved that it was dad (not mom) that came along to help mediate the disagreement. Perfect for my 8- and 4-year olds - especially the 8yo who is obsessed with axolotls!
