A cute picture book of sibling axolotls that are opposites of each other. The text would be a good read for parents whose children may not be getting a long. Reading a loud can be a funny tongue twister with the play on the axolotl word all over the text. Enjoyed but students in grades PreK - 2nd grade.

What starts out as a fun play on words quickly turns into an annoying overuse of the joke. But I am aware that what my adult mind finds annoying might be fun to kids, so I'm rating on that bell curve.
Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Jabberwocky for the read.

This book has such cute axolotl characters. Siblings with their own personalities who occasionally don't get along. My tot loved it! Especially since we have pink and gold axolotls.
If your kid likes axolotls with cute, bright illustrations this is perfect!

This was a super cute book about axolotls!! Even my 8 year old son enjoyed the sweet story and colorful pictures!

Axolotl loves his quiet, peaceful life—until Axolittle splashes in and turns his world delightfully upside down. This sweet story beautifully explores friendship, patience, and the joy of finding unexpected companions. The vibrant illustrations and playful word choices make this a heartwarming, page-turning read for little ones and adults alike! Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Kids for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Perfectly trendy and perfectly adorable, this book will thrill young axolotl fans. I giggled as I read it, so it really is a good time for all!

I loved this bright and cheerful book about sibling differences and accepting "people" the way they are. It felt like an updated, modern spin on a Dr. Seuss book. This is one you'll love to share with your children and/or students.
My students will love meeting Axolotl and Axolittle (and their dad - what a 'STACHE!).

There have been many cool and trendy animals that have had their “moment” in the past (llama, narwhal, sloth, etc.), but the axolotl has been on top for quite some time now and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. I am confident that my students will love this book because they request axolotl books all the time! That being said, this book is not my cup of tea (which is ok since I’m not the target audience!) I don’t like the stretch that all of these rhymes take, and it just seems like they’re trying too hard with this one; it doesn’t have a natural flow. The conflict between the siblings isn’t very interesting. It feels like the conflict and resolution were supposed to be important, but they just really weren’t. But once again, that’s ok. Sometimes children’s books are just meant to be fun and silly and don’t have to have a big moral lesson or rhyme or reason beyond reading for fun. And that’s where this one fits in. I could see this being a very fun read aloud for my kindergarten classes and maybe 1st grade, but beyond that I could see students thinking it’s too “little kid”-ish. That being said, I think you could play around with a read aloud of this book and make it fun and silly with the little ones. The illustrations are bright and beautiful. I will definitely be adding this to our collection.

This book was adorable! The cadence of the sentences made it fun to read to my little one. He loved the bright colors and the rhyming.

Axoltols are having a moment and my students cannot get enough!
Siblings Axolotl and Axolittle are great friends, however, they have a fight and must work through it.
This is such an adorable picture book. I read it with two fourth-graders who wanted to see more of what my job is. After a lesson on weeding, we were talking about choosing new books. They chose this one. Both students loved this book and laughed and talked about how they fight with their siblings.
This is a great picture book that is great for elementary libraries, public libraries, and personal collections.
Thank you to Sourcebook Kids, Sourcebooks Jabberwocky, and Net Galley for the ARC. All opinions are my own and influenced by my students.

This book was adorable. I can see children really loving this book and the pretty illustrations/images. I can't wait to see all the children love this book as much as I did.

Super, super cute book. Love the cadence of the text and that lotl and little are involved in a lot of it. Axo-dad-l has some pretty funny script too! Cute pictures and great message highlighting that it’s ok if siblings are different and argue sometimes- they can always meet in the middle and make up.

4.5/5⭐️
We really enjoyed Axolotl and Axolittle! The story about axolotls was such a hit in our house—axolotls are such a popular topic right now, and it was fun to see them featured in a book for kids. As an educator, I also really appreciated the themes of conflict resolution and embracing differences. These are such important concepts for kids to learn, and the way the story explored sibling relationships was both relatable and heartwarming.
The illustrations were absolutely vivid and awesome—they really brought the characters to life and held my attention for a long time. Honestly, I wish the book was even longer! My child even said he’d love it if there was a graphic novel version that expanded on the story—that’s how much we loved it.
The wordplay throughout the book was so clever and fun—there were lots of laugh-out-loud moments, especially the part with Axodadl, which we thought was hilarious!
I would absolutely recommend this book for families and educators who are looking for a fun but meaningful story—one that encourages empathy, understanding, and acceptance. Axolotl and Axolittle would be a valuable addition to any school or home library!

Thank you to NetGalley, Sourcebooks Publishing, and Jess Hitchman for allowing me to preview this title before its publication date on July 8, 2025.
What a fun book! My 6 yr old giggled the whole time reading this. It is a story about a big sister and a little brother who are very much opposites. Chaos ensues and they end up arguing, but (spoiler!) it all works out in the end.
The author manages to use "axo-" throughout the story. I asked her what her favorite part was and she laughed and said, "axo-pickle." IYKYK The illustrations were mostly a bright yellow and pink. There was enough detail to complement the story but not enough to overpower the entertaining words.
I absolutely recommend this sweet and fun book.

This book is an absolute blast! Axolotl and Axolittle perfectly captures the wild, silly ups and downs of sibling life. These two axolotls couldn’t be more different—one’s all about snacks and fun, the other’s a fact-loving little brain—but their back-and-forth of poking, joking, shouting, and making up feels so real (and hilarious).
It’s a fantastic read-aloud for families with siblings or friends who sometimes drive each other crazy but always find a way to make up. The clever wordplay and adorable illustrations make it a total joy for kids and grown-ups alike.
If you want a fun way to talk about getting along and celebrating differences, this one’s a must-have!

Thank you SOURCEBOOKS Kids, Sourcebooks Jabberwocky, and NetGalley for the advanced electronic review copy of this adorable book. Fun rhyme and colorful illustrations combine into a wonderful story about sibling relationship. Great choice for the youngest readers.

I showed the book trailer to this book to several grade levels two weeks ago and the kids were in absolute love! As was I! I couldn't wait to read it and I was so excited to see it show up in Netgalley!
Such.a clever and fun read with amazingly creative wordplay that kids and adults will both enjoy! It flows beautifully! The art is just as attractive as the wording! The sibling relationships are accurate and relatable whether you are human or axolotl! The students in my school are also pretty obsessed with Axolotls, so it's pretty perfect that a title like this is coming soon!

Axo-lutely amazing! This adorable picture book about a brother and sister axolotl is sweet and funny. Filled with axolotl puns and rhyme that is sure to keep readers entertained and turning the page. With a great teaching moment about empathy and forgiveness. The illustrations are the cherry on top as the colors are playful as well as inviting, A great book to add to any librarians Storytime agenda, a great read for ages 2-5.

This was a fun read that students and children will enjoy. This book will be great for students who are learning to read and enjoy being able to read parts of the story with their adults. I look forward to adding this one to my classroom library when it publishes. Students will also love that features axolotls as they are very popular right now. It also talks about handling family/peer relationships which is a great topic to cover.
