Axolotls are very popular with our students and the bright illustrations are sure to be loved. The play on words will grab the attention of the students and I think this book would make a great read aloud.

The wordplay, cadence, and trendy axolotl characters make this book a charming choice for a read-aloud. It's fun to see how many ways the author can rhyme or riff off of the word axolotl, and young readers will be making their own tongue twisters after listening to this sing-songy story.
I recommend this for read-alouds at library storytime, or for introductory poetry units. There are many fun ways this book could be used. I recommend it for schools and libraries.

A very cute depiction of how radically different siblings can love each other and struggle to get along all at the same time. Recommending for sibling groups. The bright pictures are perfect for storytime, but the axolotl/little joke can become a little stiff at times and might end up reading like a confusing tongue-twister.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher, Sourcebooks Kids, for giving me the chance to read and review this book. All opinions are my own.
With axolotyls being all the range among my elementary readers, I was instantly drawn to the title and cover art. This book will be a hit based on topic and art alone. That being said, I did find the word play a bit over the top and a bit much, but also recognize that young, independent readers, will find it enjoyable. The message of sibling differences and working through conflict was a positive one and I especially enjoyed the dad being the mediator (and not the mom, which seems to be a lot more common in many available texts).

This is a very cute book that features a lot of rhyming. This book is written to be a fantastic read aloud for littles ages 4+. The story follows two siblings that are opposite in hobbies and end up in a small argument that dad solves fairly quickly. #NetGalley #NetGalleyARC #ARC

A really cute read for little ones, especially those who love axolotls. The art is eye catching and the text is very lyrical! Can see this populating many family bookshelves. Also the chosen colour scheme is so appealing, I can imagine it will interest a lot of kids & adults alike.

Very attractive color and will stand out among picture books. This title has broad appeal since axolotl’s are currently all the rage. The language choices and play on words will make for a great read aloud!

My three kids (ages 8-13) are ALL infatuated with axolotls so when I saw this eye-catching cover with the clever name and the bright colors and the adorable illustrations I knew it would be something they would be into. (I was right!)
This book is precious and the story is full of plays-on-words that is just as clever as I suspected it would be. It’s catchy. The illustrations throughout are wonderful. The book itself reminds me of how I felt reading the Llama Llama books for the first time — that is one of our family’s FAVORITE series. I could easily see there being many more books with these precious characters!
Keep them coming!

This bright and colourful picture book features two siblings, Axolotl and Axolittle, who have very different interests and personalities but will always be siblings. While they may fight at times, they really are a pair and love each other, as can be the case with many siblings. Axolotls have recently been a popular animal for kids and so I think this is sure to draw in young readers based on the characters alone. It is told through rhyme and a play on words using the world axolotl, like max-a-lotl and snacks-a-lotl which are cute and make the book sound rhythmic when read aloud. I could definitely see young children being interested in this book and it would be a perfect gift for siblings to learn about getting along with each other. Of course the bright and interesting illustrations will draw in attention as well. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher, Sourcebooks Kids for giving me the chance to read and review this book!

A wonderful axo-little book! It isn't easy having an axo-lotl-little sibling.
Rhyming text takes you through the day with the siblings, the falling-out, and their dad who helps make it better.

A cute picture book about what it's like to have a sibling who is different than you, and how to resolve a conflict. I like the complimentary colors (pink and yellow) and the silly rhyming text. I appreciated how they got a parent (with a groovy mustache) involved and learned some ways to better interact with each other.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC. I will purchase for my library. I bet the storytime kids will love it.

An adorable picture book story about two opposite siblings.
Axolotl and Axolittle are brother and sister, and they are different as can be. Axolotl is loud, loves snacks and has an abundance of energy for skateboarding and saxophone. Her brother Axolittle is more mellow, enjoying reading and relaxing. Both siblings understand and support each other's differences. But one accidents changes their dynamic - so who is in the wrong?
I thought this book was a wonderful picture book for elementary readers. I was drawn in by the title and the cover, and I know that kids would be as well. The story has lots of fun word plays ('axolittle', 'axo sis and axo-bro') that would make it a great choice for a read aloud. I think the message in the book is also done well; the relationship with siblings and what to do when accidents happen and feelings are hurt. The dad character is a fun addition to the story, but also still allows for the two siblings to create the resolution of their conflict. The author does a great job at showcasing that both personalities of the siblings have their strengths, and that one is not inherently better than the other. The illustrations are brightly colored, and add a lot to the words of the story.
I could see this book being adored at an elementary school library, with lots of use for both a read aloud and educationally (talking about opposites, talking about socio-emotional skill building).

This is a really cute book about axolotl siblings - the good and the bad. The illustrations are high contrast and cute. The message is clear and positive.

This was such a cute read! The illustrations by Sarah Rebar, were adorable!
Jess Hitchman did such a good job showing the differences between siblings and how they are learning to combine interests so they can play together. I liked how it showed them getting a little frustrated with each other, like all siblings, and how they knew when to ask for help from an adult.
Also the word play and rhyming were so creative and fun!

So freaking cute!!! One might be able to say that the axolotl puns and jokes went a little far, but I honestly really enjoyed it! The author went all-in with that idea, and it worked really well. It made the whole story fun and whimsical while still making a lot of sense. It was also great how the author took two very opposite characters and showed young readers that even they can meet in the middle and get along. The illustrations defintely helped to convey this smoothly, and the words and pictures fit together flawlessly. The colors that the illustrator used were also beautifully vibrant and added to the joyful mood of the book. This book is going to be meaningful and a fast favorite for so many kids out there. Bravo!!

Such a fun rhyming book. The cover is very visually appealing and will catch the eyes of young readers. I loved all the play on words and it’s also a great book to teach conflict resolution. I’ll be buying this book for my elementary library!

Axolotl and Axolittle by Jess Hitchman, illustrated by Sarah Rebar, is a delightful and creative children's book that introduces the two siblings in a charming and playful way. The author uses rhyming and clever wordplay, especially focusing on the "L" sound at the end of "axolotl" and "axolittle," which makes the story engaging and fun for young readers. The whimsical tone of the narrative is enhanced by Sarah Rebar’s colorful and vibrant illustrations, bringing the world and its adorable characters to life.
The artwork in this book is absolutely beautiful and complements the playful tone of the story perfectly. The soft, pastel-like illustrations bring the characters and scenes to life in a way that's both visually striking and comforting. The adorable details—like the quirky dad’s mustache—really make the characters feel personal and memorable.
While the musicality of the rhyming flow feels a little strained in the middle of the book—likely due to the author running out of ways to play with the axolotl sound—the rhythm is quickly restored by the end, bringing the story back into its groove. One of the sweetest moments in the story comes when the dad steps in to help the siblings resolve their fight, adding a heartwarming touch to the resolution. Though simple, the book’s message about sibling relationships and the importance of making up is delivered in an endearing way. Axolotl and Axolittle is a perfect read for younger children, offering a playful yet meaningful experience with plenty of charm and warmth.

Mother of two here, and we absolutely LOVED Axolotl and Axolittle, by Jess Hitchman! Axolotls are so popular right now and this book was so clever and creative! The story follows an older sister, Axolotl, and her little brother Axolittle. The writing was so fun and we all laughed out loud when the kids yelled for their Axo-Dad-L. My kids and I loved the illustrations, by Sarah Rebar. Everything was so creatively done! This was the perfect book for my axolotl-loving 8-year-old and 5-year-old, we would definitely recommend this to another family.
