I DNF-ed this. The first few chapters did not pull me in. The writing was more rambling than descriptive and I did not find the execution of the premise compelling.

This was such an amazing start to this series - oh my goodness, I thought that I was prepared for it going into it.... however, I was a heartbroken, sobbing mess at the end! The characters are the absolute best - Alysnian is such an incredible tortured soul with truly the weight of the world on his shoulders; and Caris!?!?! She just wanted freedom! And they were meant to find each other, to come together and truly be what is best for each other (I mean, it took awhile - but the journey was well worth it!). The found family in this book just shattered my heart and made me cry from how perfect it was!

The world and world building was incredibly well done and surprisingly easy to follow - sometimes that is not the case for fantasy! The ending? Oh talk about blowing my thoughts out of the water!! It was so much better than what I even figured could come and well - is book 2 ready yet!?!?

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

wow wow wow. I had so much fun reading this book. If you like found family, she falls first but he falls harder or he hates everyone especially her, then this is for you! I had so much fun following along with the main characters to save the world from obliteration. Even though I knew what I signed up for reading this, I still sobbed. I felt for both Alsynian and Caris so much. While Alsynian blamed himself and carried the weight of the world on his shoulders, Caris wanted to be free to do as she pleased, but knew that would never really be in the cards for her. With tragedy in store for them I really felt their love. I love Caris and Alsynian so much and i’m so excited to see what’s in store for them while also being terrified! I need book 2 immediately!!! I can’t wait to have this book on my shelf!!

My Review💭😁✅📚
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved this book! This adventure is full of unique fantasy world building. The main character Caris
is a Soul Weaver, who is forced to go on an adventure to save her realm from the evil, Dark Hound! The tension between Caris and Alsynian (her protector) is definitely something that’ll get you and your book club giggling. They have this whole back and forth banter and *kinda* hated each other from the beginnings so it’s definitely giving frenemies to lovers vibes. Then you have Evan the goofy and friendly third wheel on this adventure because all stories include a silly friend that tags along. What a great Indie Debut for R.K. Devon!
