I did a combo of this book by listening and reading and I enjoyed both versions very nicely. Just a constant cycle of reading these and then sadly waiting for the next. I'll be very sad when the series is over.

Another great installment in the Dark Olympus Series! I love the series, which is a modern reimagining of the Greek Pantheon, where the gods' names are political titles/positions either won or passed down when the prior holder dies or steps down. Each book focuses on the development of a romance, while advancing an overarching plotline. The books are all spicy and are set in a world that's accepting of all sexual preferences. This allows the author to focus on the queer and/or kinky relationships without having to address possible judgement from outsiders.

This book picks up after the cliff hanger in book 7, where Poseidon captured Icarus. Poseidon, who never expected to ever hold the title, tries everything in his power to keep his people safe. As someone who is very straight forward, and possibly neurodivergent, he struggles to move among the other Olympians and their political machinations. With Circe at the gates, laying siege to his ports, he has to make quick decisions on who to side with.

Icarus is despised by most Olympians and many of his own people, including his father. He learned to survive by gathering information on everyone, while maintaining the guise of a flirty airhead. Now, with his father dead, his sister safely away from Olympus, and his status as Poseidon’s prisoner, he has to decide how to save himself.

I love the banter between the two and how well they communicate, which leads to them understanding and respecting each other very quickly. The book does seem to rush the attraction and the relationship between the two. I felt like the story could have been built up more, so their connection wasn’t so fast. It seemed almost like it was rushed in order to advance the main plot of the series. It made it a quick, but steamy read.

The narrators are utterly perfect. The grit, and almost age of poseidon's voice is undeniably the most perfect casting.

Icarus' voice is just exactly what I pictured.

And as anyone and everyone should already know, I am obsessed with Katee's writing!!!

Icarus and Poseidon are one of my favorite couples. I love the captor captive trope!!!!! I enjoy how Icarus kind of has a little spark to him, even with everything he's going through. And watching poseidon, figure out how to morally navigate everything is just perfection. The innocence almost of poseidon, mixed with the d. Devious of Icarus just gives me such joy. Icarus is a survivor

This is the latest installation of the Olympis series from Katee Robert. I'm really excited for the conclusion of this series because it's going to be a banger.
This story follows Poseidon and Icarus as they deal with the fallout from the previous book. Icarus is essentially a "prisoner" of Poseidon's, although you wouldn't know it because of how he's treated.
Poseidon has his hands full trying to protect Olympus now that the protective barrier has fallen, and the ruling Olympians can't come to a consensus on what to do about the threats.
I love that they found solace with each other and we're able to be vulnerable and find some happiness.
I liked this one, it was fast paced and the plot did not lag. I also really enjoyed Poseidon 's character, he was a gentle giant who was doing his best under the circumstances.

Unfortunately I think it’s time I put this series to bed. I feel like the only reason I have been continuing is to get to Zeus and Hera’s book. The characters in Sweet Obsession fell flat for me. I did not feel the connection between Icarus and Poseidon, it was giving instant love surrounded by useless banter and build up that wasn’t necessary as they were obsessed instantly.

Another fantastic steamy romantasy set in the Olympus series that features a M/M love story with tons of political intrigue, danger and HOT passion. Fantastic on audio and sure to satisfy fans of the series. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early audio copy in exchange for my honest review!

I love this series!
Just when I was asking where the MM romance was this one came out!
I loved the captured dynamic- with giving the captured all the power in the bedroom!
The ending fell a little flat for me.
The set up was good and lots of spice of course.
The continuation of the dark Olympus story keeps me coming back I want to know what happens
This book didn’t give us much progress but I still had fun along the way

I tend to describe this series with some version of, "come for the smut, stay for the political intrigue," and it continues to be true for me. As we get closer to the end of the series, I have become so invested in the political maneuvering. I'm sure it's not for everybody, but I really do want to know what is going on, who is involved, how we got here, and how it'll end. I am not someone who ever feels compelled to finish a series, even if it's one I'm enjoying, yet this one has me hooked.

It certainly doesn't hurt to have characters to root for and steamy scenes to keep me engaged.

I wasn't sure how I would feel about Sweet Obsession given that I found Icarus a bit annoying throughout Dark Restraint. I was nervous that those qualities would outshine anything else about him, but I settled in rather quickly to his character and bought why he was the way he was. Meanwhile, Poseidon read to me as a complex character and I found myself loving him rather quickly.

I have seen some folks describe this as insta-love, but I didn't feel that way. Sure, there was an attraction there, and it seemed to me that each character was not quite as cold-hearted or detached as they might present themselves to the world, which meant there was a level of care there from the start. But that, to me, is not insta-love. I felt their relationship deepen as it moved from "just sex" to more. Did it happen quickly? Maybe. But it also felt earned, and I was absolutely delighted by the ending.

I'm so looking forward to reading how this series wraps up!

This was sweet and spicy and fun! It had a continuation of the ongoing war at Olympus and a new romance that burnes! So good!

Thank you, Netgalley!

Love all things Katee Robert, every book in the Dark Olympus series has held something fun and intriguing that has me coming back for more of these books and retellings, this one fell slightly flat for me though. As much as I loved the idea of it, I didn't connect with the characters as much as I hoped, but still really loved reading it!

Thank you NetGalley for an eARC!

Sweet Obsession by Katee Robert is the eighth book in the Dark Olympus series and I'm blown away by how consistently amazing every book in this series is. The plot has really come to a boil and things were so incredibly tense. The fast pace and drama really kept me engaged and immersed in the story. I can hardly wait to read what happens next. I was also pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed Poseidon and Icarus together. It's a little too insta lust for my usual preference but it really worked for them. The audiobook narration was fantastic. The narrators really brought the story and characters to life.

Katie Robert always has a way to capture the attention of her readers! And this was no different. I have enjoyed continuing with this series and seeing all of the different characters and what they go through. The narrators were incredible and fit each main character's vibe.

I loved how the story deepened the characters of Poseidon and Icarus beyond the myths we know, showing a tender, emotional side to their intense captor-captive dynamic. The romance felt sweet and steamy, with themes like forced proximity, light BDSM, and safe kink exploration handled well. I appreciated the vulnerability and growth we saw in both leads, especially as Olympus edges closer to collapse. While I did wish the seduction had been a bit more drawn out and the plot a little tighter, the emotional connection and character development more than made up for it. It’s a heartfelt, spicy addition to the series, and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I almost thought I was going to get to the end without a happy ending and was going to revolt but I found myself swooning so HARD with the end of this book and cheering for the couple coming back together. It was so good and I loved seeing the book continue to tie in to what has been going on throughout the entire series.

If you’re a fan of steamy, high-stakes romance with a dark edge, Sweet Obsession by Katee Robert delivers exactly that—and more. The third book in the Dark Desires series, this installment amps up the tension with a blend of forced proximity, dangerous attraction, and an enemies-to-lovers spark that practically sizzles off the page.

The story follows two individuals entangled in a dangerous game of power, control, and undeniable chemistry. As always, Robert masterfully balances sensuality with emotion, making the romance feel intense yet layered. The characters are complex, morally gray, and utterly captivating. Their dynamic keeps the reader on edge, unsure whether to root for them or fear for them—and often both at once.

The writing is sleek and fast-paced, with enough tension to keep you flipping pages late into the night. If you enjoy spice with your suspense and don’t mind walking the line between love and obsession, Sweet Obsession is a must-read.

Rating: 4.5/5
Spice Level: Very high (definitely for mature readers)
Perfect for fans of: dark romance, morally gray love interests, and intense chemistry

First - I love this series.
Second - Wicked Beauty will still be the top tier installment.
Third -Do we think this series has gone on for too long....? I no longer feel the perfect marriage of plot & spice. All of it was too rushed

Sweet Obsession by Katee Robert is the latest in the Dark Olympus series, and like all the ones that came before it, it’s hot, delicious, and erotic. Alex Moorcook and Will Watt are fantastic as Icarus and Poseidon. Now, it may just be that my knowledge of Greek mythology isn’t as robust as it should be, but this one felt like it deviated the most from any original source material—but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t excellent. Icarus is in Poseidon’s custody after the events of the previous book, and Poseidon is scheming with Hera to bring down Zeus, while everyone in Olympus is waiting to see what Circe will do with her fleet just outside of Olympus’s borders. Tensions are high, and everything Icarus knows about Circe and her plans is incredibly valuable. The only problem is he doesn’t know much at all. That doesn’t keep Poseidon from keeping him close. Extra close. Super duper close. For protection. Of course.

Anyway, if dark romance and Greek mythology are your jam, you’ll love these Dark Olympus books. This one wasn’t my favorite in the series—that spot is still reserved for the book that started it all—but if you love M/M, this would be an especially good one to pick up. The books in the series *are* interconnected, but I don’t think it would be super hard to pick it up as a standalone. Robert leaves enough crumbs in the first half from other books to help readers get caught up on what’s going down.

I really enjoyed listening to this one! The audio was sooooo well done and the narrators were perfect!

I ate the story up! A captive developing feelings for his captor?!? Hellllll yasssss! Poseidon has been so mysterious I was very excited for his story and it did not disappoint!! The chemistry between and Icarus was hot and these two really had some need driving them to make their decisions.

But lemme tell you…I AM SO FREAKING PUMPED FOR THE NEXT ONE!!!!! My gosh the build up has been insane in the best way!
