Sweet Obsession was a satisfying continuation of Katee Robert's Dark Olympus series.
Picking up where Dark Restraint leaves off, with the focus now on Icarus, Ariadne's brother. Captured by Poseidon, Icarus has fallen down and out from the high life of Olympus.
There was a lot of chemistry between Icarus and Poseidon and I didn't find their power dynamic to be imbalanced. I enjoyed reading as Poseidon explored this new k!nk and the care the Icarus showed as he helped Poseidon discover his submissive side. I love that Katee is so inclusive with her writing and doesn't shy away from tackling complex relationship dynamics.
This series is best enjoyed in order, with the thirteen's battle for Olympus continuing in Sweet Obsession. There was more planning than battle in this one so I'm excited for the next release in the series, as there's guaranteed to be a ton of action.
I highly recommend this series on audio! The narrators are fantastic and do a great job of bringing Icarus and Poseidon to life. Alex Moorcock and Will Watt had great energy and really nailed the passion and heat between these two.
Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media and Katee Robert for an earlier listening copy. These are my honest thoughts.

Katee Robert never fails to enthrall you with her Greek Mythology retellings, entwining characters you wouldn't expect to be together but making you love them as a pair.

I always expect to enjoy a Katee Robert book and will NEVER turn one away. I was so excited that they finally wrote a mlm! I LOVE how inclusive Katee is in her writing. She never disappoints me. I think the only real reservation I had with the story is they get together SO fast. Especially considering they are supposed to be "enemies" and one is a hostage. I would have loved a little more build there. I did think it would turn me off from the story but it really didn't because (spoiler) I was too distracted by Poseidon being a BOTTOM. I was EATING IT UP!!! Big men being submissive will get me everytime.

I know what I’m getting into when I read a Katee Robert book, and this book continued to meet my expectations for spice (kink) while always exceeded my expectations in plot development! Granted I haven’t kept up with the series, but I felt that I was able to catch up on the key plot points to figure out what was happenings. I liked Poseidon and Icarus’ story, but it was also a little much insta love for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audiobook arc.

This wasn't my favourite in the series as found it quite slow but I enjoyed their relationship dynamic, though I found the ending a little underwhelming.

I have read this series from the beginning and this was another winner for me!!! I love the over arching plotline and how really sucks you in. The romance of this book really helped to drive the plot and I really enjoyed that aspect.....Posieden and Icarus were so sweet at times and I loved how they grew together as a couple. I am really looking forward to the next book Zeus and Hera's story and to see where this insane plot is going to go!!! This is the first book in this series that I have done an audiobook for and I really enjoyed it
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this s ARC

If you havent read any of books The Dark Olympus series, I would'nt recommed reading this, yet...
However this was very good! The intrigue and drama continues, and this time with Poseidon POV (and I have been wanting a long time for him 😊) And he did not disappoint!
The romance was tension-felt and sweet and the spice delivered as allways! Giving it is a MM romance, I want to give a shout out for the audiobook - you could feel how different the characters were, in both narratoring and storyline!

The plot of this one was very lackluster. Nearly everything in this novel took place over the course of a COUPLE DAYS. To me It felt likeit dragged on and the was quite repetitive. I easily predicted the plotline from the very beginning. I think this series is starting hit a downward trend for me, but I'm this far in so when the next couple books out I will likely still be reading them. HOWEVER, the spicy scenes are top tier. That is one thing that Katee Robert will always nail. So if you're looking for some good smut, this is it right here.

I really enjoyed reading this book, I loved the relationship dynamics between Poseidon and Icarus. Overall, I believe this book is really good and definitely adds a different perspective on what it's like to be one of the "Big Three" amongst the Thirteen. This was definitely the first male romance I've truly enjoyed reading. I cannot wait to read the next book about Zues and Hera.
I love how we get to listen from both Poseidon's and Icarus' perspective. It shows how they see and understand some situations. The narrators used for the characters really know how to play into the character, it's as if they are the character themselves.

i think this might be my favorite installment in the dark olympus series thus far!! i loved getting to explore icarus who had been a side character for the past few books and clearly treated awful by his father. in this book, we see him begin to cope with grief while still amidst the chaotic plot running throughout the series. also poseidon is another one of my favs in this series now that we’ve seen his perspective better. and even though there’s still much to unravel with the main through line, we got to see them and their happy ending. gave me warm fuzzies despite all the dark romance elements lol.
the audio narration was great, and the addition of will watt to the regular narrator lineup was excellent! i enjoyed listening to this one

i don’t usually gravitate to m/m romances or love stories. it isn’t that i don’t like them. i don’t avoid them, but i am much more likely to seek out stories about sapphic or straight couples. this book was a surprise to me. it wasn’t the first time i’ve read Katee Robert’s writing of m/m couples but in the other cases there was usually a woman involved and it was more throuple-y. this one focuses in on Icarus and Poseidon.
the exploration of dynamics between Icarus and Poseidon was well done. it was a rollercoaster trying to navigate all the outside forces involved as they got together. and the kink sessions in this book were 🌶️ 🔥 🥵 for sure. Icarus’s dirty talk? holy hell it is so hot.
Icarus has been one of my favorite characters in this series. i loved seeing him realize he could be worth something and be loved beyond just sex and what he could do for someone. i also adored seeing more of Poseidon than in previous installments in the series. i enjoyed watching as Poseidon learned more about himself and what he wants (in and out of bed). seeing the character development overall was really interesting and the way the story tied up at the end was sooooo satisfying.
the politics in this one are definitely present, there’s war going on so of course they are, and the goings on in this novel continue to expose and weave the complex story of the city of Olympus.
the narrators of the audiobook NAILED it and really brought this book to life.
cw: torture, captivity, war, violence, panic attack, death of a parent, physical abuse.
**Thank you to Katee Robert, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for the advanced copy of the audiobook**

Sweet Obsession is book 8 in the Dark Olympus series. You must read the other books prior to this title in order to understand the situations and relationships you're dealing with. It's almost impossible to write a review for these books without giving spoilers from the previous ones in the series.
Sweet Obsession picks up right where Dark Restraint leaves off. The rest of his family has escaped or is dead, but Icarus is now a captive of the Thirteen and under Poseidon's watch. The Thirteen want to know what Circe's plan is and they think Icarus may be able to provide some insight.
I'll be completely honest and say that I enjoyed this title a lot more than I anticipated I would! I've enjoyed most of the books in this series, but MM romances aren't always my thing. I liked the way Katee wrote this one and that there some more plot in there that had me invested in the overall storyline rather than just the smut. I can't wait to see what happens in Olympus next! If you listen to the audio for this one, the narrators were great!
One of my only complaints about this one was how often Icarus referred to Poseidon as "Big Guy".
Thank you so much to Katee Robert, Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for this ALC in exchange for my honest review.

I would like to thank the publisher for sending me an audio-arc in exchange for an honest review through NetGalley.
THIS IS BOOK 8 IN THE SERIES. AS MUCH AS THE COUPLES ARE DIFFERENT, THE MAIN PLOT CONNECTS. THERE WILL MOST DEFINITELY BE SPOILERS FOR PREVIOUS BOOKS.
Icarus is taken captive by Poseidon, held as a bargaining chip now that Circe and the Aeaens are knocking at Olympus's door. But what Icarus didn't expect was Poseidon not being like the rest of the thirteen. Poseidon is annoyed he has to keep Icarus prisoner, mostly because he doesn't want to become a babysitter to him, but also because keeping a prisoner isn't his thing. Poseidon is kind, cares about the people of Olympus, and when Icarus sees the submissive within the giant, he quickly steps up to take control of him. But the more the two spend time with one another, the more they both quickly realize that there's more there than just a physical attraction, and when you're falling for the enemy, the odds are always stacked against you.
AND. SHE. DID. IT. AGAIN. This was HOT HOT HOT. The spice was so well written, and it just highlighted how much I love Poseidon. He's kind and broody, but to everyone except Icarus he comes off as strong and in control. Which is why when he relinquishes that control to Icarus, things get heated real quick. The plot was interesting, and I can't wait to see how this whole war with Circe is going end (I have theories, but I'm probably wrong). I loved the other characters as well, and seeing some of my old favorites was just amazing. And now that Olympus is at war, we'll just have to wait and see how this is going to affect everyone and everything. I need the next book already!!
Actual Rating: 4.5 stars

Sweet Obsession is book number eight in the Dark Olympus series and is the story of Poseidon and Icarus.
When Icarus attempts to kidnap Poseidon, his father is killed and Poseidon takes Icarus as a prisoner. However, Poseidon is a gentle giant and wants no harm to come to Icarus, even as Olympus is under attack by Circe and Icarus could have information to stop Circe's attack. While Icarus has spent his life trading his body for secreats and manipulating people to get what he desires, he discovers that Poseidon is truly an honorable man, unlike the rest of the Thirteen.
As Circe and her followers attempt to destroy Olympus, Poseidon must determine if his lotalties lie with the rest of the Thriteen, his people or the first person to ever make him feel more. Having been Poseidon for half his life, he is tired and ready to make his own choices but will he be able to walk away when Icarus needs to return home.
This is a retelling of Greek mythology with a modern twist, close proximity and a male/male love interest. The story represents the mythology well with the relationships between the Gods and demi-Gods. There is some spice but not too graphic or intense. I would recommend this book/audiobook to those that love Katee Robert and her Dark Olympus series. There is a HEA and it was a good ending to the story.

AND WE FINALLY HAVE POSEIDON’S STORY!!!!
I mean, I’m still desperately waiting for Zeus’s lol BUT I feel like Poseidon has been the elusive character for the entire series and we FINALLY get to not only meet him but get inside his head??? YES PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
This book was fantastic. I truly enjoyed watching Poseidon and Icarus grow closer out of their protective natures. I loved Poseidon’s caring and nurturing side—but also his need to be taken care of…something he likely has never admitted to anyone before Icarus came into the picture.
I also loved the overarching plot of the entire series coming to a head in this book. We finally get to find out what brings the walls around Olympus down, what it means for the Thirteen, and what they’re going to do about it.
I’m also loving all the cameos of the couples we’ve gotten to know throughout the series. I love seeing them after their stories have concluded, and I cannot wait to see how they all come together (or wage war lol) in the next book.
I thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook for this one too and couldn't pause to save my life.
Don’t miss out on this story:
- MM
- Sub/Dom
- Greek mythology reimagining
- Captor x Captive
- Opposites attract

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the eARC and Dreamscape Media for the ALC.
Did Not Finish.
I’ve liked most of the Dark Olympus series (I’ve missed a few, just by lack of time, not interest) so a M/M pairing with Poseidon and Icarus was intriguing. But then some BDSM came into play (wasn’t expecting that, nor wanting that) and I just wasn’t into it. Sorry, but while I appreciate the switch (the brat was the dom!) but it just didn’t work for me. The narrators were top tier, though, and I almost continued to listen despite my disinterest in the content.

Katee Robert’s latest installment in the series delivers a captivating semi-dark M/M romance, blending tension, passion, and emotional depth with her signature skill. The dynamic between Icarus (a seductive, melancholic figure) and Poseidon (a dominant yet protective force) is the book’s standout strength—their chemistry feels authentic and surprisingly grounded, making their evolving relationship a joy to follow. The balance of plot, romance, and spice is well-executed, offering enough narrative momentum to satisfy while keeping the focus on the central pairing.
As a first-time reader of M/M romance, I found this to be an excellent introduction to the genre, thanks to Robert’s deft handling of character dynamics and sensitive content. That said, the overarching plot may feel challenging to track for readers unfamiliar with the previous seven books, as the story leans heavily on existing lore. Despite this, the emotional core of Icarus and Poseidon’s relationship stands strong enough to engage newcomers.
Robert’s storytelling remains as compelling as ever, and this book solidifies my trust in her ability to craft immersive, steamy romances across pairings. It’s a fantastic recommendation for readers curious about M/M romance, particularly those who enjoy enemies-to-lovers tropes with a dark edge.
Suggested Audience: Fans of dark-ish romance, political intrigue, and slow-burn M/M pairings. A great gateway for readers new to the genre.

Katee Robert deserves a spot on amongst the Thirteen because they are a straight up God of writing dark romance. Hoooooly smokes was Sweet Obsession a wild ride. So spicy, so heartfelt, so chaotic. I loved it! Not only is the lots of political turmoil to follow and be riveted by, but the emotional connection between Icarus and Poseidon is simply beautiful. Full of kink and consensual debauchery, yes, but it’s also beautiful. I think Wally loved this story and the ending especially hit me right in the feels. Another win for Robert!

This book stayed very true to the story that Katee has been crafting along this series. I was so happy to see Icharus' back story becasue we all knew he was more than the vapid party boy he was shown as previously. His relationship with Poseidon was sweet and I loved how they took care of each other.
My one pet peeve is the overuse of a single nickname, big guy. It was cute and I felt like it was fitting, but after repeated usage, it lost its luster.
Katee is great at including such diverse representation in relationship type and kink. This one wasn't my particular flavor, but I still found it enjoyable to read.
Thank you to netgalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review!
