Gilmore Girls + The Fall of Whit Rivera + Jenny Han = the perfect fall YA romance.
🍂
Welcome to Bramble Falls, CT. The place where people from all over come to celebrate the autumn months. Everyone loves it there, except Ellis. She’s been dragged kicking and screaming from NYC as her parents temporarily separate. She’s mad this has derailed her plans of getting into Columbia so activities like apple picking and hay rides aren’t really on her radar. Ellis does become interested when she sees her childhood friend, now all grown up barista, and realizes he’s had an awesome glow up. Too bad he hates her for reasons unknown to Ellis. The longer she stays in Bramble Falls, the more she becomes part of the community so when it’s time to leave, will she be able to?

CW: abandonment, adultery, toxic relationship, parental death (mentioned)

4.5 stars!
I had high expectations for this book because it started out by saying it had Gilmore Girls vibes and Jenny Han… it totally lived up to my expectations. It was so cute!!! There were a lot of nods to Gilmore Girls, sometimes a bit too much like it felt like it was straight from Stars Hollow itself, but for the most part it gave off the vibes she was going for and the cozy, comfort read you would want to read for fall. I felt like the FMC’s mom and her aunt gave off Laurel and Susannah from The Summer I Turned Pretty. Their relationship was really good and I loved seeing them together. The FMC, Ellis, was getting her chance to be a real teenager, outside of New York, and the expectations she had from her dad and herself. I loved seeing her growth throughout the book. I also loved that the MMC, Cooper, felt his feelings and set boundaries, but also could take a step back and see where others were coming from. This book was just exactly what I needed to start off the fall season! So cute! So cozy! Great characters and friendships!

Tropes:
Teen-romance, second-chance?!?, small town romance, beta-hero, baker-hero, artistic-heroine

The book was sweet. It was YA although to be honest, it could have been for an older H/h. The hero has been in love with the heroine for a while. I didn’t know what was so appetizing about her because she laughs at non-jokes mostly but one doesn’t know the matters of the heart so I guess it makes sense. She is artistic and a good fashion designer so there is that. And she helps the community out ( after being pushed to do by her mom).

Her dad is an a-hole. The friend group she finds in the small town is super although I loved that her from the big city really had her back and was a true friend.

Since it was YA, the angsty parts were teen coded and plenty and not the best time.

eARC review 3.25⭐️

Let me start by saying that this was a cute fall story. I think that i expect it to love it even though it’s a YA novel since i read tons of YA. Ellis felt incredibly immature throughout the whole book, don’t get me wrong she had some nice moments too but the balance was definitely off. Cooper on the other hand was so bland, to be honest i was rooting for Jake because Jake actually put in the effort. The overall story of the town was lovely though and i really enjoyed that side of the story.

An huge thank you to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster
Children's Publishing | Margaret K. McElderry Books for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Falling like leaves was a heartfelt & emotional read that captures, grief, self-discovery, and second chance at love. I loved how captivating the chemistry was between Ellis and Cooper you can't help but root for them. It's the kind of love story that lingers with you after you turn the last page.

This book had all the small-town vibes—I could totally picture Bramble Falls as Stars Hollow, which made it even better.

Loved seeing Ellis find her place in Bramble Falls and navigate her messy, sweet, perfectly teenage romance with Cooper. It brought the teen angst and I was here for it!! She went through so much and I connected with that on a deep level.

Overall, this was such a charming, heartfelt read. Big thanks to NetGalley, Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, and Misty Wilson for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

oh my gosh this book might actually be perfect!!

i feel like this is the perfect book to start off your celebrations of the ber months! the entire time im reading i keep picturing Bramble Falls as Stars Hollow! the cutest little autumn town!

In full transparency fluffy romance is very hit or miss for me, i’m either going to absolutely devour it or despise it.. and let me just say i DEVOURED this book!!! it was the perfect amount of fluff, just enough but not over the top i couldn’t handle it.

the only minor and i mean very minor critique i have is the third act break up.. i feel like i can live without it and the book would still hit.

BUT nonetheless i ate this up and would eat it up again!!

This was a really sweet and cozy YA romance. It brought the small town vibes ala Stars Hollow which made it that much better.

This book really brought the teen angst. From being forced to leave home to start her senior year at a new school and town to going through an emotional rollercoaster of the boy she met years before and not knowing why he’s not happy to see her. Plus add in Ellis’ parents separating? She went through it I tell you! This felt very much like a Jenny Han story (the dad even calls her Ellie belly 😆) but honestly, I was here for it.

I loved seeing Ellis embrace Bramble Falls and all the people in it. It really helps her grow as a person and brings her closer to Cooper. They are such a teenager couple but I was here for the ups and downs of their relationship lol.

I think a lot of younger people can relate to her hesitation of trying to figure out her next step in life. I do think her mom dragging her away from school like that was awful though. 😆 It’s explained eventually but I’d be so livid.

I’m hoping this won’t be the last visit to this cute small town. Thank you so much NetGalley, Simon and Schuster Children’s Publishing and Misty Wilson for the ARC in exchange of an honest review.

This book was ultimate fall vibes! I loved the vibes of the town, and our main character Mitchelle. It was such a cozy fall book, it made me want to go to Bramble Falls and enjoy these festivities myself. It was such a good Young Adult romance that made me yearn for the fall experience I would have loved to have myself during my teen years. I adored the small-town setting, and how fall was enveloped into everything. Mitchelle and Cooper's relationship was cute and sweet. Perfect for a younger audience like teens. Overall, I would recommend this book for anyone searching for a Gilmore Girls town vibe with a adorable romance story.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing this early ARC for me!

This book was the perfect read to jump into fall. It gave me all the cozy vibes of everything and anything autumn. The main character Ellis is desperately trying to stay on track in her life to have a successful future but it takes a lot of self reflecting and mostly people from the outside looking in to realize she might not be living life for the reasons she thinks she is. Aside with a story of self-discovery and from her eyes, a betrayal, she really comes into herself as she continues to live in bramble falls. And falling for a certain past friendly face doesn't hurt. He's got sweet eyes to make a girl stay a little while longer. You're in luck if you're looking for a cozy autumn read with small town romance and gilmore girls vibes! 5/5

If you want Gilmore Girls, fall, and PSL vibes, this is a lighthearted, cozy book that will scratch that itch. A multi-month fall festival celebration and a sweet teen romance makes this book a quick fall read.

I didn’t expect this to be a masterpiece, and it definitely isn’t. There are several things I could point out as needing some more work or being a little underdeveloped (more explanation for Ellis’s relationship with both parents but especially her father and why it’s led her to her actions, more development of figuring out her college and career plans, why are we trying to do enemies to lovers when we’re going to drop that roughly three seconds later, etc.). It isn’t the strongest plot, and maybe it leans a little too heavily on the, “Just picture Stars Hollow from Gilmore Girls, okay?

But to be honest, this just isn’t the kind of book that I want to critique like that. Not because it doesn’t deserve the discussion but because there are so many cozy elements that it would feel almost rude to talk about it. Like, sure there are some parts of autumn that might not be ideal (leaves are such a pain to remove!), but why dwell on them when there are amazing smells and apple ciders and pumpkin carving? That’s how I feel about this book. It’s adorable and fun enough that I don’t mind if the leaves in the yard are a little bit of a nuisance.

There’s a lot to enjoy about this book. The town of Bramble Falls is delightful and described just enough to make it feel real. The characters are delightful (I adored Jake), and I like the development of both the side characters are Ellis’s personal growth with figuring out her future and how she wants to handle things. She makes some big mistakes and people call her out for it, but she goes through a lot of growth. There is a romance, but the biggest character moments in the book are from her own development.

Overall, this is an easy read with perfect fall vibes. If you want just enough depth to make you feel like you’re reading something worthwhile but light enough to make you feel good without having to concentrate too hard, this is the perfect kind of book for that. I thoroughly enjoyed starting my fall season with this cute book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

This book was so cute!!! I want to go live in Bramble Falls immediately because it sounds like the quintessential small autumn filled town of dreams.

I really appreciated how Misty Wilson told this story, the whole time you're aggravated with Ellis' mom, and then later you totally change your mind (though still feel like both parents handled things poorly but being a parent is hard). I felt like the teenagers in this town were nice to read about, not being totally toxic and cruel every chance they got, no big bad wolf "mean girl" or "mean guy" person who is just a constant issue. Ellis had really great character growth, and the romance was so sweet. It gave me such a nostalgia for when I was young and in love for the first time!

I’llm not a YA type of person and I went into this blind.
I loved every second of it there were times I thought maybe the author could have been more descriptive with the character descriptions. Overall 4/5
