At a time when the world is desperately in need of good news, we are fortunate to have José Andrés. So much more than a chef, he is the epitome of a servant leader and we need more like him.
From his early days as a young boy in Barcelona, his story is an example of the power of each individual to create change. This intimate memoir highlights simple, yet powerful life lessons that work in the kitchen and the world. Chef Andrés built his reputation as a talented chef who brought the tastes of his native Spain to the world. But, he will be remembered most as a humanitarian who saw a need and found a way to meet it.
As founder of World Central Kitchen, he recognized the power of food—to heal, to sustain, to give bring hope where it is needed most. Whether responding to natural disasters or in war torn regions of the world, his boots on the ground approach is doing what governments can and will not. He is feeding the hungry, serving the needy, and making a difference.
Listening to his words I couldn’t help but feel hopeful and, boy, do I need a reason to hope. The word hero is tossed around quite liberally, but this is a case where the moniker is truly deserved. I highly recommend this very personal and uplifting story of a man who shows us through his actions that love will always conquer evil.
