When I first saw the title 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧, I secretly hoped it was about a badass female character. It is however, about a 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 with an arranged marriage with a 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫, but she’s secretly in love with her childhood best friend. Who is our 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧. You get to read the story from each of their points-of-view which kept the story interesting.
Going into it, I did not realize it was a “Why Choose” style Romance, which I admit are not for me, but I still wanted to give it a shot. We didn’t really see much of that until the last 20% of the book. If you’re someone who enjoys “Why Choose”, then this will definitely be your kind of Romantasy though.
This ended with enough of a cliffhanger that left me curious to know what happens in the next book in the series.

A super intriguing, sexy story! I’m a huge fan of the forced/arranged marriage trope (seriously, I can’t get enough), and this was such a fresh, unexpected take. The addition of Asher’s perspective—alongside our engaged couple—added a compelling twist that made the story feel even more layered. I loved watching everything unfold.

Content Warning: violence, mentions of slavery, mentions of abuse
+ I went into this one not expecting much but a good story because I enjoy this author's work and I was hooked from chapter one. It's filled with tropes that aren't unique - a princess about to be married off to the king of a neighborhood kingdom for an alliance that would benefit both sides and her best friend is an assassin. Also there is someone who is trying to foil this alliance.
+ There are three POVs in this story: The Warrior is Maddox Kyronan (Ky) who has fire magic and needs help with the dying crops on his lands. The Princess is Marjoriana (Jory) who has wants to rebel and not be forced into an arranged marriage but she has no choice, because her kingdom needs an army (Ky's), against another kingdom. And then there is the Assassin - Asher, who is Jory's best friend. I thought the characters were interesting, but I think I was mostly fascinated with Asher who has been through hell, my heart broke for him.
+ The court politics was present and kept things intriguing in the beginning until the focus of the story came to the relationship between Asher, Ky and Jory. It does come back in the end which will set off things for book two.
+ While reading this, I thought this was heading towards an intense love triangle but I was wrong. Jory doesn't have to choose either and in the end gets both of them. And because they are joining into a throuple, the spice was spicy. It is a slow burn though and most of it happens at the end of the story. I have a feeling this is going to get spicier in book two. But I was really intrigue with how this story started off between the three of them - it's filled with tension and mistrust. It kept me hooked!
~ I think because the story focused on the characters, the politics kind of of disappeared in the middle of the story. It does return at the end to set up the next book.
~ Jory is the weakest link in this story. She is naive, she is inexperienced - yes, she shows moments of being bold but I wanted more from her. I think that will present itself in book two also, but the star of this book to me is Asher. So I hope Jory gets to shine a bit. She is the soft one between them and maybe the anchor since both men are a bit broken in their own way. She is the innocence and heart I think they miss and crave.
Final Thoughts:
I read this one in two days, so I was hooked because of the characters. It's a romantasy filled with the typical tropes but it's the characters that are the focus in this book one, not the political intrigue, though it is there. The tension and yearning in the three main characters in this why choose situation was addicting, even though the spice doesn't really present itself almost at the end of the book. I think we need a little more from Jory's character and more politics in book two but overall, I want to see what happens next to this throuple. I am rooting for Asher and hopes he gets the love and healing he deserves.

Help me write a book review for Brigid Kemmerer book Warrior Princess Assassin.
Brigid Kemmerer has a new fantastic fantasy, Warrior Princess Assassin—a gripping fantasy full of heart, tension, and unforgettable characters. From the very first page, I was drawn into a richly crafted world where danger lurks around every corner and alliances are as sharp as the blades the Warrior and his cadre wield.
What truly sets this book apart are the characters. They’re not only lovable, but incredibly well-developed, each with their own strengths, vulnerabilities, and arcs that feel both authentic and compelling. The dynamic between the main characters was fresh and unique—unlike anything I’ve read before. Their relationship unfolds with a slow burn that is so masterfully done, it makes every glance, every moment of banter, and every step toward trust feel earned.
The chemistry is undeniable, but it never overshadows the individual growth each character experiences. The emotional depth and gradual development of their bond was one of my favorite aspects of the story. And the banter? Top tier. Witty, sharp, and often laced with just enough tension to keep you turning the page.
I can’t wait to see where the story goes next. If you love character-driven fantasy with a perfect blend of action, heart, and romance, Warrior Princess Assassin is a must-read. Brigid Kemmerer has crafted something truly special here.

I’m instalove’s biggest hater, but I genuinely had a good enough time with this to still give it five stars.
The characters and their backstories were fleshed out incredibly well, and world and political machinations were shown enough to be intriguing and promise a lot from this series. Definitely a very character heavy first book, with promise for complicated plot in future books.

I absolutely adored Brigid’s first foray into adult romantasy. With how much her YA stories weave together tension and emotion in such effortless ways, I had no doubt she’d knock this out of the park. This book has everything I love about Brigid’s books: political intrigue/dynamics, witty banter, and fully developed characters that I actually care about. I specifically cant wait to see how Ky’s character opens up, but so far, I really like what I see and think he’s incredibly interesting already.
One of my favorite pieces of a Brigid book are the different POVs and I think for this story it was especially necessary. Sometimes it can be annoying and break the pacing, but for this story, it’s appreciated and makes sense.
The spice that was in this book was very carefully illustrated and the escalation up to it felt gradual, natural, and not at all rushed. By the time we got the payoff, Brigid handsomely rewarded us. It all felt tasteful and also moved along the plot and character development.
I’ve yet to be disappointed by a Brigid book/series. I can’t wait to see where this story goes. I greatly enjoyed this first entry into the tale of Ky, Jory, and Asher!

Warrior Princess Assassin was an anticipated read for me since I love Brigid Kemmerer’s YA books and needed to read her first foray into adult. Unfortunately I was left wanting more….but from that ending I bet I will get my wish!
I loved our Warrior and Assassin’s POVs but our Princess Jory was a bit of the weak link for me. Her character was a bit all over the place and I get it for someone e just experiencing life outside the castle but it was inconsistent for me.
This is a why choose novel and I went in not knowing that so I do feel like it should be mentioned - but I’m assuming the final copy will highlight that for the target audience.

Contains triggering themes of war, violence, sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. Also includes love between 3 people with sex scenes. Two kingdoms are forming an alliance to stand strong against a third kingdom, but there is treachery within the agreement in unsuspecting places. No one is safe.

That was wild. As in didn't expect the romantic relationship the book was gonna portray going into this. This story was very middle of the road for me with its pros and cons. I have enjoyed Brigid Kemmemer's other stories but with Warrior Princess Assassin if you're not into the 'why choose' relationship then this book could be an easy pass. The story is very character driven and not a whole lot happens plot wise in this. It feels entirely all like it was leading up to something that never truly happened. Which is unfortunate for the size of this book. It's definitely a different type of romantasy which I'm sure many will find refreshing but this story ultimately wasn't for me. It happens.
Thank you Netgalley for the chance to read this arc!

I’m a little embarrassed to admit that this book got bumped up higher on my TBR for two reasons. 1. Fairyloot announced this was going to be the August Romantasy Subscription pick 2. I heard this was a Romantasy Why Choose. Both of those sold me and I devoured it immediately. I can say with no hesitation that this book was everyone been looking for in a Romantasy book lately. We have a slow-burn romance, MMF relationship dynamics, political intrigue, magic and amazing banter & tension!
For Brigid Kemmerer’s adult fantasy debut I have to say she knocked it out of the park. I started this book at 8 o’clock at night and didn’t stop reading it till 1 AM. This book sunk its claws in me and didn’t let go. Which if I’m being honest was a complete surprise because I didn’t have the highest expectations for this since experience reading one of Brigid books left me disappointed. But Warrior Princess Assassin is a dual POV Romantasy adventure. Jory, Ky and Asher are amazing from beginning to end and I’m dying to know how their story continues.
If I were to try to sum this up, I would say: perfect for fans who want an adult spicier version of The Remnant Chronicles by Mary E. Pearson. PS if you can’t already tell I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for everyone to read this on its release on August 12! Lastly big thank you to NetGalley & Avon for allowing me to read and review this!

3.5 stars
Promised in marriage to the dangerously magical Ky, king of the neighboring kingdom, Princess Jory isn't about to sacrifice her freedom just because someone told her to. Perhaps she will be able to escape her fate with her childhood friend Asher? But when things go awry and the three find themselves in the middle of a politically charged kidnapping, which way will the tables turn and will any of them survive the fallout?
I've been a fan of BK's YA books for a while, and this is also a fun fantasy world with great characters. However, if I had learned more about what this book was about, I may not have read this one. I'm not sure this is for everyone due to the relationship of the characters. Some will absolutely love it, but it could be a deal breaker for some readers who aren't prepared for what they are getting with this one.
Ultimately, I enjoyed the story and the characters, but not sure if I will go further with the series.

The really interesting thing about this story is that it's not about one main character who is all of the title labels. Instead, it is about three complex characters whose stories are told from each of their perspectives in alternating chapters. The promised marriage of Princess Marjoriana of Astranza to Maddox Kyronan of Incendar is meant to create a mutually beneficial alliance between the two countries, But there are so many undercurrents to the politics involved, most of which Jory is unaware of at the beginning. Asher is the third person in this story. He was Jory's childhood friend until the murder of both of their mothers, when he was cast out of Astranza and became an assassin. All three of them have strengths and weaknesses that complement each other, even though there is so much ignorance, fear, and suspicion to start with. How they learn to trust and love each other and eventually work together for the greater good makes for a compelling story. And the chemistry among the three of them is scorching, which only adds another wonderful layer of complexity to this fascinating tale. I look forward to the next installment of this wonderful series.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Warrior Princess Assassin is fierce, fast-paced, and utterly addictive. Brigid Kemmerer delivers a heroine who’s sharp-edged, duty-bound, and navigating a world where betrayal is currency and survival is never guaranteed.
The action hits hard, the court intrigue is deliciously tense, and the emotional layers sneak up on you in between blades and bargains. There’s romance, there’s revenge, and there’s a reckoning you won’t see coming.
Perfect for readers who want their fantasy dangerous, character-driven, and impossible to put down. This one slashes expectations—in the best way.

If she writes it I am going to read it and own every version of it. And this one might just be my new favorite of hers?? Easy to follow and an addicting world

Warrior Princess Assassin had a lot of things going for it—an intriguing political setup, engaging magic systems, and a solid premise built on a marriage alliance meant to unite magical kingdoms. I especially enjoyed the multiple perspectives; they added depth to the plot and gave me a clearer understanding of each character’s motivations and stakes.
That said, the pacing felt a bit slow at times, and some parts of the story became repetitive. While the writing itself was strong, I found myself wishing for a bit more momentum.
My biggest struggle was with the romance. I went into this expecting a love triangle, but it turned out to be a why choose scenario, which just isn’t a trope I connect with. I understand why it appeals to many readers, and I can absolutely see this being a 5-star favorite for fans of that dynamic—but it wasn’t quite for me.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read, just not one I see myself revisiting or continuing with the rest of the trilogy.

2.5/5! ⭐⭐⭐
Well, this took me a while to get through, and honestly, it's probably going to be one of those reviews where I really don't have much to say.
In summary: I was bored. You get a why choose romance with a hint of fantasy, drama, some spice, and world's slowest slow-burn romance that kindles and never truly ignites. Fire king, storm princess and an emotionally damaged assassin are the three POV's we get, and I didn't really connect to either of them. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I thought there'd be a tiny bit more world-building, some action, political intrigue and a few good bloody battles. sike.
If you want romance, with some tension, drama and a little insta-love, sure go for it. If you're looking for something with an in-depth plot, intense world-building and action....this might not be the one for you.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an e-ARC of Warrior Princess Assassin. To start off, I strongly dislike the name of this book because it feels like it needs punctuation, but that is the ONLY thing about this whole book I don’t like. It was perfectly done. I had the privilege to hear Brigid talk about writing this last year and I was so excited to receive an advanced copy. She has shown how skilled she is, once again, by switching audiences (YA to adult) while still keeping the emotional depth and character growth she is known for. I thought this was her best so far.
I love how Kemmerer portrays all kinds of relationships, disabilities, trauma responses, and moral gray areas while compassionately writing some really complicated and frustrating characters -and also some perfect favorite ones. This book was a stellar example of her craft. I loved how well she did the central romance which was perfectly paced, deeply emotional, and the yearning was perfection. She always makes an intentional effort to portray real, loving, complicated, and accurate romances both queer and straight. I thought the way the three main characters interacted and loved each other was so well done and I was rooting for all of them. I do have my favorite though, who is one of those all time best characters in a book and I have a feeing he’s going to get better in the next one as she continues to develop his character and shows more of his relationship with his sister. The setting and world building were also excellent, though the romance was definitely the key theme of this book. I would recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy romance with deep character work, or really anyone who should love it and hasn’t found the right one yet.

I dunno - this was just meh to me. The concept is interesting and I didn't really hate any of the main characters. I guess my problem is that I really couldn't get behind the relationship dynamics. It just seemed forced to me. I liked the world and the magic, but I'm not sure I would read the rest of the books in this series.

I really love Brigid's writing, and her characters are always a delight to read. they're layered and complex and this book was no different! I did not know about the "Why choose" angle going in, and I have to say I was personally thrilled by the surprise haha. I really thought it was believable and the spice was great. definitely will keep going with this series!!

Get ready for the slowest of slow burns!!
The character and world building are there, maybe taking up a little too much of the story, because we don't get any real action until the last four chapters!!! The build-up and tension between Jory, Asher and Ky is definitely there, although a bit slow and repetitive. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series, I need to know how the political plot lines unfold! And hopefully we get a more established relationship between Jory, Asher and Ky!!
