I dunno - this was just meh to me. The concept is interesting and I didn't really hate any of the main characters. I guess my problem is that I really couldn't get behind the relationship dynamics. It just seemed forced to me. I liked the world and the magic, but I'm not sure I would read the rest of the books in this series.

I really love Brigid's writing, and her characters are always a delight to read. they're layered and complex and this book was no different! I did not know about the "Why choose" angle going in, and I have to say I was personally thrilled by the surprise haha. I really thought it was believable and the spice was great. definitely will keep going with this series!!

Get ready for the slowest of slow burns!!

The character and world building are there, maybe taking up a little too much of the story, because we don't get any real action until the last four chapters!!! The build-up and tension between Jory, Asher and Ky is definitely there, although a bit slow and repetitive. I will definitely be reading the rest of the series, I need to know how the political plot lines unfold! And hopefully we get a more established relationship between Jory, Asher and Ky!!

I absolutely loved the Defy The Night series so I was super excited to get an arc for this authors newest book! Unfortunately I didn’t realize it was poly/why choose which is a trope I usually try to avoid as it’s just not for me. The blurb for this book was not very clear on that. What I did read was interesting and I think this will be a hit with the right readers.

Brigid Kemmerer excels at writing political intrigue perfectly balanced with slowburn romance. Her adult debut hits in every way I hoped!

Warrior Princess Assassin includes:
💫 Three perfectly balanced POVs, with excellent character development
💫 Simmering tension, lust, and longing between all three characters (not a love triangle!)
💫 Betrayals, secrets, and strife
💫 An addictive plot that will leave you begging for the next book

This book is a recipe for my favorite kind of romantasy. I cannot wait to see what happens next!

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

This may just be one of my favorite Brigid Kemmerer books ever! The tension, the plot, the way I somehow loved all the characters equally. It all just has such a good Brigid Kemmerer flair to it. If you've loved any of her other books, she puts all of that into this.

There is a why choose type of love triangle, and I am curious of how that goes. It feels relatively heathy (after the beginning) and equal. I've never read romance like that, so I don't know if that's the standard, but it definitely doesn't raise any red flags.

I cannot wait to see where the next book goes. And I don't mind that her other series has been held up by this book, which is the highest praise I can give.

TW: death of a parent, forced prostitution, imprisonment, slavery, abuse, death by fire

When Brigid decides to write adult she really goes all out huh?! I was not expecting a Why Choose romance from sweet sweet Brigid, but I dug it!

Warrior Princess Assassin (honestly, the title could use some work) is about three people trying to survive. The Warrior, King of Incendar, Ky, is desperate for an alliance with Astranza. His country is quickly becoming a burned wasteland where no crops will grow. He has a superior army that can help defend Astranza but the negotiations between them aren’t what they seem. Princess Jory of Astranza is willing to marry Ky to keep her people safe and honor the alliance but her heart has been her best friend’s since they were children. Her brother is aggressive and mean but with their father on the verge of death she wants to fulfill her duty to the people. The Assassin, Asher, has been through hell and back. Cast out of Astranza and into slavery he’s been through the worst experiences imaginable but he will protect Jory no matter what. If that means killing the king she is to marry so be it.

Ok so I didn’t really put this down, and when it ended I was like WHAT THATS ALL?! I wasn’t ready for it to be over one bit! Brigid did a great job at world building and I do like the magic system shown so far. I feel like it will be explored more in the next book because Jory having magic seems to be hinted at a lot. I’ve only read a couple of other Why Choose books and never one where the two men showed such desire and emotion for one another as well as with the woman so I’m not sure if the author did it justice but I thought it was fantastic and enjoyed it. Also, a lot of the experiences that Asher went through are tough and graphic so just a heads up on that. I did not see the twist of the betrayer at all so that was a kick in the pants and I feel like the assassins hired to kill Jory and Ky are on a never ending loop!

Overall I’m so sad that I read this so early because it’ll be a long while yet until I can get my hands on the second one. But I think this was a great start to a new series and one I will definitely be following! Thank you so much to Avon and Harper Voyager for gifting me this eARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review!

Not for me. This came across as a love triangle book when I requested the eARC. I wouldn’t have been interested if I had known about the polyamory from the beginning. Just not something I’m comfortable reading.

As soon as I saw Brigid Kemmerer was releasing her debut adult novel I knew it was a must-read for me. It soared past my expectations and I cannot wait to continue the series!

The elements you love from her YA books are ever-present: storylines that bring tension and an element of mystery along with her classic rich and wonderful character building. The way she has readers falling for everyone from main to side characters continues in this series. You can’t help but adore many of these characters, faults and all.

Without spoiling anything, I’ll say it was everything I look for in a romantasy book and more (bonus for having one of my favorite tropes). The book perfectly sets up for the next in the series too, which was the ticket for me to give this a full 5-star review.

Thank you to NetGalley, Avon and Harper Voyager, and Brigid Kemmerer for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

This book is absolutely fabulous. The world building is so solid and feels tangible. The tension between the three of them is perfect and I love the multiple povs.

The second this hit my hands I couldn't resist the chance to not sit and DEVOUR it! I love everything that Brigid writes and I was so eager for this book. Just all the stars and I am sad it is already over.

Thank you to Avon and Netgalley for the ARC! I loved Warrior Princess Assassin! I don't have too much to say, since I just spent the whole book having a good time. I will add a pretty heavy trigger warning for sexual assault/sexual abuse, for a character both as a minor and in the recent bath. They are not shown directly, but it is discussed and the character has lasting trauma from it. There's also larger institutions of sexual slavery discussed.

There's a character we meet later in the book (being vague for spoiler reasons) that I immediately clocked as autistic-coded. A social media exchange with the author confirmed that was purposeful. I have a feeling this character will be important, both plot-wise and interpersonally, and I can't wait to see them more!

Due to preexisting apprehensions and character choices, a lot of the book is focused on setting up the romance. As the first in the series, you also wouldn't want to see too much payoff right off the bat. But the spicy scenes we do get are *chef's kiss*. They're both good spicy scenes while also doing some very important character work (which the best romance authors do!)

Some of the world-building was on the vaguer side, especially involving the ongoing conflict/war, but I have a feeling that it will be expanded as the series goes on. It's a situation that feels very simplistic, but I have a feeling it won't be left this way. Some fantasy books give you a bucket of world-building right off the bat, but in this case I think we will learn as we go. It also makes sense with the POV characters we have, as they are all sheltered (informationally) in some way or another. Our princess quite literally, sheltered in the palace and naive. The warrior has spent so much time on the battlefield that he misses much of the political intricacies. And our assassin has been struggling to stay alive, and has limited experiences outside of that. With this set-up, it makes sense that we don't know more about the world than they do.

The plot and world building was great. The story would have been right up my alley and I have loved every book by this author so far. However, I'm not interested in polyamory (it's a trigger) books. Sonic that is something you are into and don't have a problem with definitely give it a go

Thank you for the arc. Though this isn’t a story I’d read most of the time, I found it interesting and the author did a great job with all the characters.

With layered characters, a richly developed world, and a fantastic romance, Warrior Princess Assassin is Brigid Kemmerer's debut adult romantasy. Brigid Kemmerer always writes such vividly immersive stories that are easy to get sucked into. This one is no exception. It’s unique and layered with intriguing magic and powers. The story is told from three perspectives - Asher, Jory, and Ky. I love them all and found each of their stories compelling. I also love the major found family vibes. Ky’s friends and the friendship between Asher and Jory are bright spots in this darker fantasy. (Definitely check out the content warnings before reading the book.)

Of course, my favorite part of the story is the romance. This is a slow-building, complicated love story between all three main characters. It’s not a love triangle, and it’s messy and angsty with friends-to-lovers and enemies-to-lovers vibes with some forced proximity and a ton of chemistry. I’m really curious to see how their love story plays out because the chemistry between these three is fantastic.

The story has a ton of action, suspense, and intrigue with kidnappings, assassination attempts, political strife, betrayals, and more. There's definitely never a dull or safe moment for any of the characters.

Special thanks to NetGalley and Avon for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.

Extremely frustrated to discover this is a "why choose" polyamory story. That should have been in the description!

Still grateful to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc--the blurb sounded up my alley!

Oh. My. Gosh this book literally had me hooked from the very first chapter and kept me on my toes and completely engrossed the entire time! I literally loved all of these characters but Ky… he’s my new book boyfriend! It’s so awesome to see such a powerful MMC have so much compassion and kindness, but also be a little morally grey too. I ATE this one up!

2.75 out of 5 stars (rounded to 3)

Warrior Princess Assassin is told through three points of view, and I’ll admit—it was a fun twist in the beginning trying to figure out who was who before the author revealed their names. Each character had their own backstory and personality, and the effort to make them distinct was clear.

That said, this book just wasn’t for me. I can absolutely see how fans of romantasy and certain tropes might enjoy it, but personally, the "pure/innocent female lead with no experience" and "why choose" tropes aren’t my thing. It made it hard to really connect with the story.

The writing style also made it a bit of a slow read for me. Scenes were sometimes retold from different perspectives, and while that can work well, here it didn’t always feel natural—especially as the plot shifted into more mature territory. It created some dissonance that pulled me out of the story.

That said, I did enjoy the action scenes and a few of the plot twists, which kept me from putting it down entirely. Not a favorite, but I know there’s an audience for this type of story—it just wasn’t me.

*Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher, for the advance copy for an honest review of the book**

I really enjoy this author and reading her adult novel was good. I felt that the warrior princess and assassin had a good connection and saw them as throuple and could feel the romance and wanting to be with each other and defending the kingdom. Asher the assassin had a had a rough life. Ky the warrior has been in many battles and helps his sister. Loved the banter and building up of relationships Jory is the princess and dealing the marriage and meeting ky. Glad that I read some of the reviews about the relationship. Overall it was okay and yes I want to know that happens next with this group. Thanks netgalley.

I really enjoyed this book! We’re following 3 different pov’s here: the warrior and princess who enter into a political engagement and the assassin that’s tasked with killing them both.

The book contains discussions regarding grief, abuse and past trauma so I highly recommend reading the trigger warnings before reading.

It was a fast pace read with a lot of romantic tension between the characters. There’s great banter and even better chemistry. The MMCs definitely had a lot more character depth and i enjoyed being in their pov’s more. I didn’t feel as connected to the female character personally but I hope that will change in the sequel. I absolutely need this throuple to thrive because the chemistry they all have

I could immediately tell that this book was centred more around the characters than everything else. Personally, I do enjoy a good plot and good world building to make fantasy books more well rounded but I appreciated what this book had to offer. It was an enjoyable read and I can’t wait to go back and read more of this author’s books!
