I found this story to be such a positive and uplifting romance. The love between Terri and Jon was undeniable. But I found the fact that though they had problems both were determined to work on their problems. It was refreshing and hopeful. I enjoyed the friendships of all of the characters in the story. Everyone should have a group of friends that is this supportive. I liked the pacing and the writing by this author. The story moved along and though some of the characters have been in other books by this author, the story truly stands alone. I would read more from this author. I received an advance copy from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Terri Rhodes loves her husband but her marriage is not where she thought it would be. She wishes that the still.had the connection that they use to have but tragedy has changed who they are. Jon loves his wife and doesn't want.to admit that they have issues that they need to work on. Terri is ready to move on because Jon doesn't seem to think anything is wrong. Follow along as the two navigate through their bumpy marriage, can they make it work or is it to late.

A Promise of Forever is the third title in the Firefly Lake series. It is the story about Terri and Jon. They are a married couple who drift apart with life just pulling them in different directions.
The author did such a good job of telling a story that rings true in so many marriages. I enjoyed seeing the couple work at fixing their marriage. A second chance story that makes an excellent beach read.
Thank you NetGalley, Sheryl Lister and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the copy of A Promise of Forever. This is my personal review.

Although i hate that the series is ending, this book beautifully wrapped everything up. The story was emotional, heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time. It also highlighted so many things shunned by the Black community in a touching, respectful and healing way. I absolutely loved everything about Teri and Jon's story and them reconciling with each other. I am in awe of how the author continues to give us thought provoking and emotional romances. I have read so many good romances this year, and I've just added another one to my list. The author continues to write in a way to prove why she has and always be one of my autobuy authors. I am excited to see what direction she goes in next.

Terri Rhodes has no idea how to fix her marriage. Everything was fine until it wasn’t. Her husband Jon is a lawyer who works long hours and Terri is an ER nurse who works just as many. They have let their commitment to their marriage slip. Now Terri sees only one way out, and that is to leave for awhile. This will either help or hinder their marriage. How hard are they both willing to work to restore their happily ever after? Will the supper club friends be able to offer any advice?

This novel by Sheryl Lister was such a good read. I loved the characters and being married for a long time, I was routing for them from the beginning. I thought the book brought a tender subject to light and I actually gained a few marriage tips along the way. It was also great to catch up with the other supper club characters and as usual I loved the banter between them all. My thanks to the author Sheryl Lister and Forever, Grand Central Publishing for my advanced copy which I read and review voluntarily. A great beach read for the summer.

A Promise of Forever is the third title in the Firefly Lake series, bringing us Terri and Jon, a married couple who have drifted into uncomfortable silences when Terri makes a choice that will change their dynamics and perceptions of each other and their marriage forever.

Falling in love is the easy part; staying in love, paying attention to a marriage, that’s the hard part. That’s where Terri and Jon are right now as their story begins. The silence between them is screaming in pain. The disconnection of their marriage into passing ships on a vast ocean is very real. The fear of vanishing into something she no longer recognizes as the woman she once was is the final straw that brings Terri to the point of moving out of her home and into a friend’s guest property. It’s not that she doesn’t still love her husband; she does. Yet, she cannot connect to him anymore, and he spends more time at the office than ever before. The grief that has touched their lives would either bring them closer or tear them apart… and it seems that fate has made that painful choice.

A Promise of Forever by Sheryl Lister is a soft, thoughtful, and emotionally rich story of how sometimes a couple may still be “in love” but there are also parts of their lives that desperately need attention, yes, even work. We’ll watch as Jon gets that wakeup call, as we go on awkward dates, slow-burning emotions awakening, and perhaps, the ability to come back together better than they were, a real couple fighting to save their marriage, their love. I enjoyed their story so much. If you crave a well-written, emotional romance with believable characters and situations, then you’ll love Terri and Jon’s story.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley, and I sincerely thank the author or publishing house for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Terri and Jon Rhodes have been married for five years, and in their busy work schedules, they spend very little time together. They both miss what they had, and Terri tries to talk to her husband, but he just shuts down. Finally, the frustration gets to her and she moves out. Will this be a wake-up call for her husband, will Terri know if he makes changes, how much change will she require. This is their journey on finding out, and realizing the marriage or themselves won't fix anything without some work from them. There are life lessons they go through, hope, discovering who they are, and what truly matters to them now. It is a book that I enjoyed reading, and when I was done reading, I wondered when will the next one come out. I wasn't ready to let them go.
I received an ARC from Forever through NetGalley.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the first two books in this trilogy. Book three, A Promise of Forever wraps things up with a story that was both charming and deeply emotional. Expect to laugh, cry, and sigh with heartfelt delight.

The four women at the heart of Serenity's Supper Club are friendship goals. I love how they rally for one another, offering support when needed and straight talk when appropriate. They are one another's biggest cheerleaders and Terri needs all of them when her marriage hits the rocks.

I've also enjoyed how the new husbands from books one and two have formed their own bonds, pulling Jon into their circle in this book. As much as Terri needs her girls, Jon needs the brothers even more. The life-long toxic influence of Jon's father has Jon's marriage teetering on the brink. I love that the author uses strong, confident, happily married Black men to show Jon that being vulnerable, sharing your feelings, and asking for help doesn't make you weak but, in fact, makes you stronger.

The progression of Jon's and Terri's marriage from tension to separation to reunion unfolds in a thoughtful, organic, and authentic manner that kept me engaged and involved from beginning to end. The stakes of their actions are realistic and relatable, their love for one another palpable, but the issues between them not easily mended. The hard work they put in - especially Jon - had me celebrating their HEA with smiles and tears.

If you enjoy charming, heartfelt, small-town romance with relatable, fully-dimensional characters, strong friendships, supportive community, drool-worthy food, emotional heft, and swoon-worthy happy endings, give A Promise of Forever a try. It has my enthusiastic recommendation, as do books one and two, A Table for Two and A Perfect Pairing.

4.5 stars

So this is third book in a series. I received an arc from net galley thank you. I don’t feel like you necessarily have to read all the other books to understand this however it would help with background information. This book is one of the few I’ve read with this concept. So the main characters Terri and Jon Rhodes have been married for 5 years and are having marital problems. After the wife tries to talk to her husband about the issues, he says everything will get better fed up with his inability to have a conversation with her. She decides to leave he knows that he loves his wife, so he decides to actively date his wife to get them back to where they need to be. This book goes into after the easy parts of falling in love happen when the real work sets in, and you have to water the garden and maintain the relationship. If you’re looking for a book, that’s not your typical easy breezy romance, but actually digs into the heart of a marriage and faith. I also enjoyed the in laws and insight from other married woman. When you have good friends who actively want you as a couple to succeed. Then this is a book for you. Highly recommend this book by this Author

Terri and Jon Rhodes are a couple in crises in there marriage. They love each other, but a tragedy is keeping them from moving on with their lives. Terri loves her husband and Jon would do anything for his wife and seeing her in so much pain, he does not know how to deal with hers and his, so when Terri takes drastic measures, Jon knows he must find a way to get his marriage back on track and do everything in his power to show her than he loves her and wants to work through their problems.
With the help of their friends in their Supper Club, Jon begins to "date" his wife again and romance her and get back those feelings of when they first met and their whirlwind love affair and go into a future filled with that love.

This book was so heartwarming though at times so incredible sad, as we share in Jon and Terri's loss. But it had so many wonderful romantic moments as they find their way back to each other with the help of their friends. There was a lot of hope and heart in this read and the author gets to the heart of the couple who really love each other.
This book can be read as a standalone. I have only read one other book in the series, but you can catch up quick on the other couples relationships and their friendship in the Supper Club.

A couple finding their forever love for one another all over again
We first meet our main characters. Terri and Jon Rhodes sitting together at dinner at home but not talking. Jon is engrossed in a work thing on his tablet while Terri begins to fume. They have been married almost five years after a whirlwind courtship of only three months. Terri is beginning to wonder did they marry too soon? After a tragic event, they had moved from LA to the quiet little town of Firefly Lake. Terri and Jon hoped they could forget the past and begin a new and bright future. Unfortunately, Jon is hiding something. When Terri gives him the ultimatum, he either needs to shape up or give up. What will he do?
Reading this book was like lounging back and enjoying a meandering sleepy river ride; events develop naturally and organically and we witness it all. Having said that, this is a slow moving, slow burn re-romance between a married couple that I recommend if you love sweet but sometimes sassy goings-on. Wonderful secondary characters. This is the second book that I have read by Ms. Lister. I wonder whose story we might get next in this lovely lakeside town? I volunteered to review an ARC of this book.

I always gravitate towards marriage in trouble / second chance romance because I am almost never dissapointed with the angst and drama they bring. This book definitely was angsty.

This story is about Jon and Terri, they are a married couple that lost a pregnancy and their marriage hasn't been the same since. Jon is spending more time working and leaving Yerri by herself. He wont talk to her about his feelings and was taught by his father that a real man doesn't. Terri is at the end of her rope. She feels neglected amd that she's carrying the Wright of the heartbreak by herself. She tells Jon that she needs to be seperate from him to think about her future and how she wants to proceed.

I liked seeing the journey of reconciliation, Jon waking up and realizing.he needs to talk about his feelings ( with a therapist and with his wife) in n order to save the marriage. The story contains a great feiend system between them in their small, cozy lakeside community.

I liked reading about their journey of healing both themselves and their marriage.

I did feel like the story dragged in parts and had m p re conversations woth friends then between the main characters. I had to put thos book down several times because I just got lost in the conversations when I wanted to see more actions with the reconciliation.

Overall Id recommend this book, especially if you want a pretty safe ( for the safety gang) marriage in trouble book.

A second chance romance for a married couple, There's not been a dramatic event to push Teri and Jon apart. They've just drifted, allowing work and family obligations to take precedence over their relationship. Now, thanks to a Supper Club and good friends they are coming back to one another. This is set in the lovely small town of Firefly Lake. I'd not read the earlier books in the series but it's clear this was written as a link in that chain, not an installment. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC>. Good storytelling and a big heart make this a good read.

A Promise of Forever gives us the story of Jon and Terri, a married couple who are going through it. What I enjoyed about this story is that the issues between our couple wasn’t the result of either one of them stepping out on each other. It was simply them growing apart and Jon’s lack of communication. The way the author handles Jon’s flaws was the most honest depiction of a male character I’ve seen in a while. Because of the way he was raised, Jon always believed that a man was weak if he exhibited any form of emotion and its taking a toll on his marriage. Terri is at her whits end, nothing she is trying is helping, so she forces Jon’s hand but will it push her husband to fight for their marriage.

Sheryl Lister does a masterful job of giving us both character’s raw emotions and I like the fact that both Jon and Terri despite the gulf that is between them still loved each other and I loved Terri’s patience with her husband. It was also good to see that they both had a good tribe of people around them, not to so much be in their business but to offer support when they both most needed it.

I think having scenes on page where they would get together for their friend group supper was excellent because there are heaving topics covered in A Promise of Forever. So having movement where we see the guys playing basketball together or the ladies having brunch was a much needed reprieve from the heartache we see as well.

There is a good balance within this story. Sheryl Lister gives us enough without overwhelming readers or leaving us frustrated with missing plot elements. A Promise of Forever is a story of healing, forgiveness and redemption. It’s also a beautiful rendition of a couples second chance for love.

I say add it to your TBR but do check your triggers when reading as this story deals with grief and loss of a child.

Thank you to the publisher for the opportunity to read and review.

This is our 3rd trip to Firefly Lake and The Serenity Supper Club. This time it's about the ups and downs of the marriage of Jon and Terri Rhodes. I love how they loved each other, even when they were going through bad situations in their live including meddling in-laws. The strong bond of friendship and sisterhood is definitely shines bright in this story. I pray that Ms. Lister will be taking us back to Firefly Lake and more Supper Club Meals. I received this book as an ARC.

"To the Supper Club. Good food, great friends, and a whole lot of passion!" Third in a small town romance series that doesn't disappoint. Although the story is predictable, there's so much love and heart in the story. The story follows a newlywed couple, Terri and Jon, that have grown apart and are trying to find their way back to each other. Their relationship was never the lack of love. It was more getting lost in the daily grind, neglecting their relationship and lack of communication. I enjoyed reading their journey to find their spark again. It was not easy but they both put in the effort. Both characters were so raw and endearing that you're rooting for them throughout the book. One of my favorite parts of the book was their very supportive friend group that have become their family. Loved how their supper clubs brought them closer together. Can't go wrong with good food and good friends! All in all a great read that's so filled with love and a very, happy ending! Thank you NetGalley, Sheryl Lister, and Forever (Grand Central Publishing) for the eARC!
