Ten Nesting Swallows by Tammar Stein is a Biblical counting book that blends spectacular artwork, God’s creation, and Scripture.
Stein’s simple text will help your preschooler learn about counting down while sharing Scripture verses that include the types of birds featured. Illustrated by Chloe Manasseh-Benjamin, the colors explode from the peacock page, and the colors on the swallows page emit warmth. Every detail of our feathered friends is captured in rich color.
Counting down from 10 to 1 has never been so beautifully illustrated and meaningful.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A counting book based on birds. Lovely illustrations help kids learn how to count and practice their counting.

Ten Nesting Swallows by Tamar Stein was okay. The concept is interesting, but the Scripture is taken soooo out of context. I liked the idea of counting, and the watercolour illustrations were my favourite part of the book. I received an eARC from Morehouse Publishing through NetGalley. All opinions are 100% my own.

-Positive Content-
▪ The illustrations were pretty and appeared to be watercolor art.
▪ I liked that some of the Bible verses were from the King James Version.
Four out of ten verses were from the KJV.
-Negative Content-
▪ I thought it was a little odd there were so many bible versions used in the book instead of just one. Six out of ten verses were from several other versions than the KJV.
(I personally prefer the KJV because there's not a copyright claim on it, and so many verses are missing in the other versions in comparison. I believe the KJV is the most reliable translation.)
Other than the different translations I liked this book, but due to my sincere personal convictions I honestly can't recommend it.
Many thanks to Morehouse Publishing for the complimentary ARC ebook copy I received to review through Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review, and the thoughts above are my own.

A beautiful, educational, and faith-filled counting book!
I read 10 Nesting Swallows with one of the kids I babysit, and he absolutely loved it! The vibrant illustrations and gentle rhythm of the text held his attention from start to finish - and I found myself just as engaged.
This book is more than just a counting primer; it’s a celebration of birds mentioned in the Bible, paired with meaningful scripture verses that add depth and context. As someone who didn’t realize how many birds are referenced in the Bible, I actually learned a lot myself while reading.
The artwork is stunning - bright, detailed, and joyful - and it really brings each bird and passage to life. It’s the kind of book that sparks curiosity in kids while also offering something for adults to appreciate, especially those looking for gentle, faith-based learning tools.
Perfect for parents, caregivers, and educators looking to combine early learning with spiritual growth.

Beautiful illustrations bring the birds in this story to life and invite readers to touch the colors on the page with a hope of seeing just a little bit more. A counting book that features 10 different types of birds mentioned in the Bible with each followed by the verse they are mentioned in.
A very unique counting book, but the scriptures are definitely of a different reading comprehension level than that of the age counting books are aimed at, so it seems that those are more for the adult (or older sibling) reading the story to the one who is learning or practicing their numbers and counting.

Introduce Bible passages while learning early math concepts. Countdown from ten using various birds found in the Bible. The illustrations are beautiful, high contrast illustrations are perfect for developing babies’ eyesight. It’s sure to be a timeless classic you can pass on to the next generation.

Teach your child to count backwards from 10 Nesting Swallows to 1 Dove with this lovely children’s book. Each number is represented by a different bird from the Bible, along with the scripture passage. I did not even know all these birds were in the Bible! It is beautifully illustrated and sure to quickly become a favorite of your little one.
