The second gen is here and they are amazing. I loved the parents' series prior to this one. You do not have to read it to enjoy this one as it is a standalone. But it was so good. I ate it up. The obsessed hero trope is always my favorite. First person POV dual.

I love a good drama filled book and this one had a lot. There was so much suspense and mystery, which I really liked. I was on the edge of my seat at times, especially at the end and I don’t want to give any spoilers, so I can’t really say anything about it, but let me just say I had a lot of emotions at the end…. Amazing stuff, my heart had a rough time though.
The characters were round/multidimensional and had a lot of depth to them, which is always a plus for me, because it makes the story so much more interesting. They had a lot of imperfections (especially because they started out young and you don’t make the best choices when you’re a teenager, so that was really realistic), but that left room for character development and growth which they all had.
There was romance, angst, dark academia and university societies, gore (watch out if that’s not your thing), twists and suspense.
Sometimes the pacing felt a little slow (hence not 5 stars), but I would definitely recommend to read this one!

3.75 stars to be exact. It wasn’t bad by any means. The storytelling was impeccable as per usual. My issue is that I didn’t connect with the characters as much as I did the OG/ first generation ones.

I love a good retelling and typically love Sav's work, but Endless Anger was unfortunately not for me and I ended up DNFing.

“I’d go to the ends of the earth if she asked me to.”

This book was my first introduction to the author and the universe, and unfortunately, I was both disappointed and underwhelmed. The entire premise behind their tension revolved around a misunderstanding that could’ve been easily resolved through a conversation. I felt as though the curse plot, romance, and families were all separate entities and didn’t mesh well together. Perhaps reading the author’s back catalog might have provided me with more context, I’m considering doing so and giving this book another chance. However, If you enjoy dark academia, this might be a book for you, but unfortunately, it wasn’t for me. Thank you to NetGalley for providing this arc.

Okay, um, wow?

Not gonna lie, even though I own the entire Monsters & Muses series, I haven’t read a single one. Why? I honestly don’t know. I just hadn’t gotten there yet. But when I saw this one on NetGalley, I had to request it. And when I got APPROVED?????? I was giggling!!

First of all, I love dark academia. Anything with gothic style, dark themes, set in a college, sign me up. The idea of this not only being centered around a college, but the WHOLE TOWN basically being in on this lore and believing this curse????? Honestly, I love that.

Speaking of this curse. I’m both confused and intrigued. I love a good little supernatural scary story to explain away the weird stuff and I FULLY believe in ghosts but man. That lore with Cronus? That was…odd. But I digress.

Where Asher would die for Lucy, I would die for Asher. There’s just something about a bodyguarding man who is IN LOVE with their woman that just gets to me. This man is the definition of pussy whipped (before he even got any) and I L O V E it. More men need to bend to the whim of their female partners. Men, take notes.

Lucy, poor, sweet, Lucy. My heart goes out to her, okay? To not only feel different her whole life because of her ADHD, but to have her best friend break her heart only to come back like nothing ever happened? That would fuck me up too. And to be the center of all of the bullshit that’s going on? That’s definitely some bad luck.

I’m really hoping this ends up being a whole series because I NEED to know what’s going on with those fuckers. I STILL HAVE SO MANY FUCKING QUESTIONS.

Thank you so much to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the ARC of this book!!! 🫶🏻

Endless Anger is a Multiple POV, Dark Academia Romance with a TON of mystery, murder, & childhood best friends who turned enemies but then turned to lovers & I LOVED them so much.

Our MMC Asher Anderson is all anger all the time, except when he’s with her.
Our FMC Lucy Wolfe has always felt like an outsider among her peers but never with him.
They have been best friends since infancy, that is until Asher believes the only way to protect Lucy is to not go to Averina College with her. That not only breaks their lifelong friendship but leaves her in an even more dangerous situation than he could have expected.

Three years later Asher shows back up enrolled as a student to reunite & protect Lucy & let me tell you she is NOT happy. That doesn't stop or sway Asher, he has waited years to call Lucy Wolfe his & this time he is not leaving her behind. Lucy Wolfe is his.

“I would have crawled on hands & knees to my death for Lucy Wolfe”

“But I mean it this time, okay? I’m here, by your side, forever. I’d sooner k*ll myself than spend another second of this godforsaken life without you.”

This was an enjoyable read for me, I truly enjoyed the characters' friendships & the personalities of each character. I did not expect the ending at all but I am curious to see where Sav takes this series.

I highly suggest reading the trigger warnings before picking this one up, it is high on the gore & SA.

Thank you so much to Sav R. Miller, SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books & Netgalley for the eARC & the opportunity to read this book!

Averina College is steeped in Greek mythology and a dark past. When Asher arrives to be reunited with Lucy, things continue to grow darker. Asher Anderson and Lucy Wolfe have been best friends since birth. After Asher learns a dark secret, he decides that the only way to protect Lucy is to distance himself from her. Years pass, but Asher's feelings for Lucy haven't changed. He's done waiting. he's going to get his girl and do whatever is in his power to have her.

Asher is the perfect mix of his parents. He's mischievous like Elena and protective like Kal. He is also loyal to the people he loves. I love how he treats Lucy and how attentive he is of her. Lucy struggles with ADHD and is so strong she doesn't realize it. How she stood up to Asher and let him have it was amazing.

I loved seeing all my Monsters and Muses babies, especially Daddy Kal. These characters hold a special place in my heart and I'm so happy to see the legacy continue.

childhood friends to lovers you will always be famous!!! i love love love when we actually SEE their past connection on page and getting to see this couple at different ages to fully understand their falling out made their rekindling that much more impactful!!

the mystery aspect/dark academia was INSANE. i didn’t read the series previous to this book (aka their parents’ story) so color me surprised when there was murder galore 😭 that’s on me gang.

the story unfolded seamlessly and i was left waiting with bated breathe at every end of the chapters waiting to see what would happen! all this taught me is that i def need to read their parents’ books and that ive found a new fav dark romance author 🙂‍↕️

I really liked this book at the start and their dynamic throughout childhood. Things start to go downhill for me when the characters diverge for college. They're both pretty nasty to each other over one understanding that you'd like a strong friendship like theirs could have easily navigated through in better ways. Once they reconnect I was more invested again, and the college setting/murder mystery aspects are very interesting. There's a few torture scenes at the end that made me feel really ill. I don't remember this author's other series being that bad, and I do like to read dark romances. I am interested in the rest of the series though as they come out.

3.5 stars rounded up

I enjoyed this, but it wasn't my favorite book from Sav. The tension and angst were great, but I had a hard time believing the drama between this couple. They don't speak for 3 years because of it, but it was basically a misunderstanding and made their 3 years apart feel a little unnecessary. And I do understand that they were young and dumb, but it was frustrating throughout this book.

I absolutely loved the story at Avernia and the thriller/horror aspects. I thought the school aspects were really cool and creative and the last 20% of this book had me on the edge of my seat.

I hate to admit it, but I feel like this would have been better as book 1 of a new series rather than being a second gen series. I loved the monsters and Muses series, and this being a second gen series made it hard not to compare, and this just wasn't as good as the parents' stories. Having these characters be related to that series almost cheapened this book. It also created plot holes for the original series and I don't like that. So much of this book is based on Ancestry, but the same ancestry had no effect on the parents? The author also beings back the dads at the end of the book and it felt kind of fan service-y. I wish these characters would have handled things on their own instead of running to daddy. It made immature characters feel even younger.

This was a really good book and I enjoyed it, but honestly all the things I didn't like were because it was a second gen series. This is my first time reading a second gen series, so maybe all of them are like this and second gen series just aren't for me?? I don't know. It will make me slightly skeptical of them in the future. I will probably consider reading more in this series, but I just really wish these were their own characters rather than relying so heavily on the parent series.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced ready copy of this book.

This was my first Sav R Miller book, and it won't be my last. I'm somewhere between three and four stars simply because, since I haven't read Miller's previous books, I lacked an emotional connection that I believe is required to fully enjoy this book.

There's plenty I enjoyed about this book. It did veer more dark academia than I anticipated, but I didn't mind that. I knew it would be classified as dark romance, though I didn't think it would be THAT dark.

I really enjoyed the relationship between Asher and Lucy. I liked their friendship/obsession/"hatred." I wish we'd gotten a little more angst and tension since that's one of my favorite things. Friends-to-lovers can be really difficult (and sometimes weird) to pull off, but this one is really well done. They were always friends but there was also always this longing beneath all of that. Also, major bonus points for them both being virgins. I'm so tired of the girl being the only one and the guy having all this experience, so it was a really nice change to see that both main characters were on the same level.

Great work was done on the "secondary" characters. Aurora and Foxe were perfect and I can't wait to read more about them in the future, especially with all this trauma Foxe has gone through now. I'm eager to see him work through that.

The early chapters before we get into "present day" were nice, though something felt a little disjointed to me. I realized right before starting this that it's a second generation to the previous series, and I almost wish I didn't realize that until I was finished with the book. Now, I wish I'd read the previous series before starting this one (even though I was dyyyyinggg to because the blurb hit on all my interests). It seems like I missed out on a lot and didn't appreciate the cameos as much as I could have. I also got the vibe that some of the work built toward these characters, and the reader's love of them, was done in prior books. However, none of that is going to stop me from going back and reading the original series while I wait on book two (which is hopefully about Aurora and Foxe?? please??)

“You didn’t need me.” “That’s not true. It’s never true.”

5⭐️ 3🌶️

- small town university
- one (dorm) bed
- grumpy x grumpy
- childhood best friends to lovers
- a family curse
- cat dad 🐾

Like father like son, Asher is full of anger towards everyone, except for when it comes to his love, Lucy, who he’s had feelings for longer than he can seem to remember. But what he doesn’t realize is that she has feelings for him too, but after a night of an alcohol haze leaving them with unanswered questions, they end up drifting apart and Lucy ends up going away to Avernia College without her best friend at her side.

At least until one day when he shows up during her senior year and now he’s the dorm RA. But Asher has a more complex plan than to just fix things with Lucy while also finishing his degree, he also needs to keep her safe from the demons that are lying in the shadows of Averina.

Thank you thank you to Sourcebooks (specifically Brittany, you are a wonderful human), and Sav for this ARC 😭 I truly cannot put into words what this series means to me on a deep emotional level and this book was so good and so THEM.

📚: Monsters Within - book 1
📖: 4/5 stars
🎧:
🌶: 3/5 stars

This was an overly slow burn troupe i didn't expect, but I can get behind the destined couple vibes. A father like son troupe I was soooo excited for, and Sav did not disappoint!
I may already know who my favorite character from the 2nd gen will be....but im holding my tongue for now, so i do not spoil anything for the readers!!

Monsters Within is the second generation series by Sav R Miller. While these novels are based on our favorite Monster&Muses characters offspring, the book gives off different vibes.
Monsters&Muses series centralized on Dark Romance vibes, the Monsters Within is giving off Thriller and haunted vibes with a little sprinkle of possessive romance.
The main characters Asher Anderson (son to the infamous Dr. Death) and Lucy Wolfe (Cora & Alistair's first born). If you're anything like me, you will agree completely that this book is Ashers' book!! Asher is absolutely his father's son, and the intensity that Asher brings to the book is fanominal!! Lucy was FAR from one of my favorite through 80% of the book, but she came back into the ranking with a quick slap to the face.
The Thriller aspect to this book is either going to make or break your love for this book 1 of the Monsters Within series.
Personally, the ending locked in my interest for the next book without a second thought. 😍

In my opinion, Sav is a character driven writer first and a plot driven writer second. I am completely obsessed with her writing for this reason!! Book 1 may be rated 4 stars instead of 5, but make no mistake! Book 2 and more will be on preorder for the next few years!

I think marketing this as dark romance is a tricky line. I think readers who frequent that genre will expect dark to mean dark romance as opposed to true crime adjacent. I think it would be more accurate to have it on murder mystery lists, just because it's dark in the sense that what the characters experience and the majority of the plot is a mystery. The romance and writing (and yearning) are solid though.

Endless Anger is the first in the Monsters Within series. This is a second generation series that is Monsters & Muses. In this first book you will find:
Childhood Friends to lovers
Small Town University
Dark Academia
With like a family curse vibes
I ate this up in one sitting. I own all the monsters & muse books but have yet to read them. I have collected the editions and know I am going to love them but have yet to get to them and now after reading this I know that needs to be rectified immediately, I loved Sav R Millers writing in this. I loved how she built the story. I loved the characters. I loved how she developed the story and followed through. I really liked how she showed the characters as friends in the beginning over the different ages leading up to going to college. Knowing myself and how I read I except the rest of the previous series to be read before the next week is through and then this one reread becuase she has got me hooked! I can’t wait for the next book in this series and to see exactly what she does next.

Thank you to Soursebook Casablanca for the complementary copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

DNF
Thanks to the publisher for the chance to read this book in advance.
I haven't read anything from this author and the premise of a retelling of Greek mythology's elements always appeals me, so I was super eager to start this novel and know more.
Unfortunately the story didn't spark the sufficient interest in me to keep going after the 20%. The general idea is absolutely interesting, but the writing style is a little bit flat and doesn't properly welcome the reader in its world. So, everything seems to be too rush and I can't empathize with the MC. That's a real pity..

This one absolutely wrecked me. The back story development is spot on, the character tension and relationship dynamic development is perfection. Asher is angry at the world, and the only time he feels anything more strongly is when she is around. Lucy has been able to count on Asher to protect her for almost her whole life. They have loved each other since they were 13, but never knew the others feelings. When the two end up at college together, surrounded by murder and involved in a larger set up, the two have to navigate their feelings and try to stay alive long enough to figure out what is happening to those they come in contact with. I received this book as an eARC and was so excited. I love Sav R Miller’s books and this one knocks it out of the park. Please remember to check trigger warnings because this book contains a small amount of sexual violence, as well as murder, disfigurement and other mentions of violence.

This is a little hard to review because let's start off by saying, Wow. The characters were dynamic and multidimensional with personalities that are believable and interesting. I love their imperfections and their growth. The character relations and character buildup were some of the best parts of the story. I really loved meeting them and felt connected to their story. Not only did I love Asher and Lucy (mmc and fmc), I really adored Foxe and some of the other side characters.

The only thing was that the story felt a bit slow until the last quarter of the book. I wish the pacing had been a little quicker because I really loved everything else about the book. I think it felt slow because I wanted it to hurry up and resolve because of how invested I felt in the characters lives so quickly from the beginning. I also didn't feel Asher's excuse for everything that followed was very strong but I can give it a pass. People do dumb things.

I really enjoyed the overall plot and the dark academia setting. The story itself was fantastic and thrilling.

I loved the author's writing. The pages really come to life with the detailed writing. The spice was also very detailed and beautifully done.

I would recommend to dark academia fans. If you're a mood reader just pick a time you feel relaxed to really delve into this.

I'm definitely going to add more of her books to my tbr.
