Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC of For the Love of Chocolate.
This is such a beautiful and passionately written book about the author's love for chocolate and his ambitious pursuit to become a renowned chocolatier.
I've never heard of the author before so it was helpful to read about his experience and how he came to be a chocolatier.
I enjoyed his childhood memories of his family and grandmother, where his love of cooking comes from, and how his heritage and love for his community influences his unique chocolates and recipes.
He includes some fancy recipes that require a lot of time and attention but boy, will it impress family and friends if you choose to make them.
Those weren't for me but I love their inclusion in this cookbook.
You'll find gorgeous photos alongside more familiar recipes like cookies and pies.
I love the creative and original touches the author has added to his recipes, highlighting his background and his love for chocolate.
He includes chocolate recipes for every occasion, including breakfast and choctails.
Chocolate does make everything better. ❤️ And it can be enjoyed for any meal at any time of the day.
If you want to level up your skills in chocolate, this is the book for you.
If you're a chocolate lover, you can't not read For the Love of Chocolate.
If you feel like a challenge, tackle one of the complicated recipes and make a treat for yourself.
The best thing is you don't have to share! 😆

Let me start by saying I am an avid cookbook collector, and have a deep love for making. So I find this cookbook to be visually stunning!
The imagery, the formatting and layouts are extremely creative and well thought out.
The content is also really strong, and i love the way they lost out definitions, and propose pairings for the types of chocolates. The way the steps are clearly explained and presented are easy to follow.
This is definitely love to have this cookbook in my personal collection!
I look forward to trying out some of the recipes.

This is a scrumptious cook book filled with next-level chocolate recipes, from bonbons to brownies. cookies to cocktails, pies to popcorn.
The book opens with an introduction from the chef, talking about his chocolate journey and the influence Memphis has had on his art. There's a section covering necessary skills and terms (eg tempering), and then the recipes. Oh my.
These recipes sound divine. They're laid our clearly, with easy to follow steps and are accompanied with gorgeous, glossy photos of the finished piece. The recipes are both decadent and accessible. Not all sound to my taste, but of the ones that are - I'm definitely going to be making some of these!
~Many thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review~

This was a very enjoyable book from a professional chocolatier showing us how to make some premium chocolates ourselves and also including recipes including chocolate. He designs recipes based on his heritage and place (Memphis) The photos are beautiful and while I am not sure I want to make this sort of chocolates often, I enjoyed reading about the recipes and the process. If you want to up your chocolate game this is a great place to start.

I cannot imagine not loving chocolate. Having traveled the world, I have sampled really good chocolate and am sometimes disappointed at the chocolate full of preservatives and additives sold in the US. I love baking with chocolate and love learning new ways to use it and the proper way to prepare it at home. For the Love of Chocolate: 80 At-Home Recipes from a Master Chocolatier's Imagination, by chocolatier, Phillip Ashley Rix, has been the answer to my quest for improving my chocolate skills.
This excellent cookbook includes information on the history of chocolate, as well as tempering, chocolate terminology, and tricks and hints for readers to gain the skills needed to make candy and baked goods that taste amazing. After the preliminaries, the remaining part of the book focuses on mouthwatering recipes. Rix truly has an imagination when it comes to developing recipes, and there are enough to keep everyone working with chocolate for weeks.
Each recipe is accompanied by comments from the author, as well as a list of ingredients and step-by-step instructions that are easy to understand and follow. Each recipe also includes beautiful, professional photographs that will inspire cooks everywhere to make something chocolate every day.
All told, anyone who wants to delve into the world of chocolate will want to pick up this excellent cookbook. Rix has outdone himself and this book belongs on every serious cook’s cookbook shelf.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review copy of this book.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. If you’re a chocolate fan, this book will be right up your alley. The photos were great and I enjoyed a bit of backstory as well. There’s several recipes I can’t wait to try!

Everything in this book is about chocolate and everything looks delicious! I liked that there was an introductory portion on the history of cocoa beans and a lot of information on the types of chocolates. This book has recipes for truffles, cookies, brownies, cakes, and even some chocolate bread. Nothing looked like it was too out of the realm of possibility to make and the pictures were generally delicious and artistic. I will say, some of the pictures from the first chapter of chocolates did confuse me and/or overwhelmed my eyes. But, that stopped once we moved to a new subset of food.
Overall, I think this is a great book to have and will surely produce amazing treats.

This is an amazing cookbook filled with so many recipes that left me wishing someone would come bake for me. Years ago, I could just convince my mom or grandma or older relatives to bake all this stuff for me if I didn't feel like baking (or the recipe was too complex), but now it's all on me. See, and now I'm thinking about all the relatives who have passed away. Funny how food and family are so intertwined.
Anyway, the recipes looked so amazing. I especially am looking forward to trying the Cheesecake Stuffed Cookies. There is an amazing cheesecake recipe in there, took, that maybe I can convince my sister to make. I love cheesecake but have never made cheesecake before.
Not to say these aren't necessarily hard recipes, but they also aren't the simplest recipes out there. Just in case anyone was wondering about the difficulty level.
Amazing photos, which always helps in cookbooks!

You had me at chocolate. How can anything made with chocolate be bad? This book is by one of the best chocolatiers in the world, Phillip Ashley Rix. He shares some of his hints, tips and recipes to help you make various chocolate delicacies that will impress family and friends. You don't have to be a master chocolatier to use this book. Rix walks you through how to create each recipe so that you too can make incredible works of art. I can't wait to try turtle cheesecake french toast.

Who knew chocolate could be so fascinating and beautiful. Truly I learned A LOT in this book. I had no idea how much of yourself you pour into making chocolates. It's definitely a delicious labor of love.
Only downside and it's truly not a downside, is the photos are drool worthy and will have you wanting to eat all the chocolates. If you're on a diet like I am currently, proceed with caution! lol!
This book isn't strictly chocolate candy though, there are cakes, cookies and other fantastic chocolate inspired recipes. Yum, Yum, Yum!!!!
I am definitely going to try my hand at making a few of these.

This book is perfect for any chocolate lover who also loves baking. This book is packed with informative and easy-to-understand sections as well as incredible recipes. This was a joy to read and the recipes are also an incredible variety, some are unique that I haven't seen done before.
Thank you Netgalley, Harper Celebrate and Phillip Ashley Rix for giving me an advance reader's copy of this wonderful cookbook!

This beautifully crafted cookbook captures the essence of Rix’s expertise as a chocolatier, and it invites both novice and experienced bakers to embark on an indulgent journey through the art of chocolate-making. Rix combines his Memphis roots with a rich tapestry of flavors, offering an inspiring array of desserts, confections, and drinks that are as imaginative as they are delicious. The recipes are thoughtfully organized, making it easy to navigate, whether you're craving a traditional treat or something avant-garde. Standout recipes like the "Bollywood" Cashew Coconut Curry Truffles and Smoky Chocolate-Covered Orange Cocktail pushed the boundaries of flavor and showed me just how versatile chocolate can be. The Turtle Cheesecake Baked French Toast is a comforting masterpiece that has quickly become a weekend favorite in my home. I was also enthralled by the Black Velvet Cake with Tanghulu "Glass" Strawberries—it's not only a feast for the taste buds but also a stunning centerpiece for any gathering. Rix doesn’t just throw recipes at you; he takes the time to explain the fundamental techniques of chocolate-making, including tempering and the importance of high-quality ingredients. His concept of “chocistry” adds a fascinating layer to the experience, allowing readers to understand the science and artistry involved in creating these delectable treats. Whether you want to impress guests with sophisticated desserts or simply satisfy your own chocolate cravings, *For the Love of Chocolate* enriches your culinary skills while igniting that deep-seated love for chocolate. This isn’t just a cookbook; it’s a heartfelt homage to the joys of chocolate-making and the community it creates. In summary, Phillip Ashley Rix has outdone himself with this book. Highly recommended for anyone who dreams in chocolate!

I didn't know chocolate could be as beautiful as the chocolates Phillip creates. The colors, the metallics, the textured look, they look like little jewels awaiting they setting as part of a ring.
Phillip's story is fantastic. Finding out he was inspired not only by his background of being from Memphis and the characteristics of the city pouring itself into his chocolate, he also uses some aspects from the south and his family. His other inspiration, Willy Wonka, which is so fun.
He was able to bring community to a space that didn't exist at all in the Memphis area.
He also goes over the different types of chocolate, some I had no idea even existed, like Ruby Chocolate. He goes into the different of cocoas and where they are from and what kitchen tools you need to create beautiful masterpieces like him.
His instructions for making the chocolates are extremely detailed, as are his jumps into the history of chocolate.
Funny thing, I didn't like chocolate until I was pregnant with my first child, so a lot of these things I've never tried.
The "Thank You Very Much: PB & Banana Truffles" recipe looks fantastic. The "Strawberries & Champagne White Chocolate Fudge" looks so good too. My mouth waters just look at the photo. Great for this summer.
"Chocolate Sandwich Cookies with PB Mousse" is another cookie that has me drooling, as do the "Big Island Cookies," which are also very true.
I really am excited to try a lot of the recipes in this book.

This book was beautifully laid out with pictures aplenty to story the history the author has evolved of his love of chocolate, the family links to it he has and of course his own blossoming chocolate shop business.
I really enjoyed hearing especially how the business has so creatively evolved with the use of social media especially during and after covid to gain more attention and custom from online.
Memphis also seems to be an area rich in culture and fun businesses to be explored further too. Not forgetting Phillip's chocolate jewels as he calls them fit right in with the bright bold lights Memphis has drawing you in it seems they're a great bold fit!
There's also a fabulous detailed guide into all different types of chocolate forms and the history from decades and centuries of it being made from scratch and how the plants have various nutritional gains too not just an indulgent treat but a medicinal one too at times.
With inviting photography, intriguing story of the business and passion this book is clearly showing the devotion to the chocolate business and part of the industry to thrive in.

These recipes where really interesting. The bonbons would take a little much time for an everyday dessert, but for a special occasion I can definitely see myself making one type.
The rest of the recipes sound fund.

"For the Love of Chocolate not simply a cookbook; it's a love letter to the craft of chocolate-making and a gateway to mastering the art of chocolate."
This is an absolutely gorgeous cookbook, with great and clear instruction from the author, a master chocolatier. Candy making, especially using chocolate, has always been a little intimidating. It's still intimidating hah, but Phillip Ashley Rix makes it seem possible to succeed! The bonbons are exciting combinations of flavours, the brownies and cakes are mouthwatering to look at, and the cookies are just gorgeous. There are also chapters on drinks, breakfast ideas, frozen desserts, and sauces, which should appeal to bakers of many levels.
The photography is incredible and there are pictures for pretty much every recipe. I absolutely love this book. Delicious from start to finish!
I received a free ebook copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.
