Although I wasn't sure at the start about this book I soon got sucked in and did not expect it to end as it did. I received an audiobook as an ARC in exchange for an unbiased review (thank you to NetGalley). Towards the beginning we get Frankie's perspective - and feel the full brunt of her dislike for her mother in law. Is this dislike justified - or is it all in Frankie's mind? Is the new nanny lovely and just trying to help or is she, as Frankie suspects, scheming and plotting along with her mother in law? Is the nanny in fact trying to kill her? Hearing only from Frankie's point of view initially it's very hard to say - and I have to say that I didn't entirely warm to Frankie herself to start with. From the middle of the book I was totally engrossed and kept finding excuses to listen to this audiobook just so I could find out what was the reality and how it would all turn out in the end. Lots of suspense and a great thriller

I’ll confess from the outset: “I’m Here to Help” defies my initial expectations. Initially, it seemed to be a straightforward story about a typical nanny who was enthusiastic about taking on a role that went beyond her original responsibilities. However, as I delved deeper, I discovered a more intricate and unsettling plot beneath the surface.

What begins as a familiar premise quickly evolves into a gripping thriller, revealing a chilling world of betrayal and abuse. The pacing keeps you on the edge of your seat, while the conclusion takes a strikingly unexpected turn that prompts deep reflection on uncomfortable truths.

Overall, this fast-paced book explores unconventional themes, delivering a lasting impact long after the last page. Thank you, Claire Lunn, for crafting such an engaging narrative, and my gratitude goes to NetGalley for providing a free advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I'm Here To Help is an addictive and fast paced domestic thriller. It had me hooked right from the start. The pace never let up throughout the book and the suspense was at a constant high. This is the author's debut novel and truly it doesn't read as one. It was so well written and the storyline just flowed perfectly

I was unsure who to trust throughout a big part of the novel. I kept going back and forth. The plot was well developed and intricately constructed. It kept me just wanting to keep reading more and more. The ending caught me off guard, I wasn't expecting that but it left me utterly satisfied.

Overall, this was a great domestic thriller. I had a blast reading this one and following the storyline. Easy, fast and unputdownable!

4.3 Stars - Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the ALC of the twisty thriller, 'I'm Here to Help'! This one did not disappoint. From the very first chapter, the pace was intense and gripping — I was hooked right away. While a few plot points were a bit predictable, I definitely didn’t see all the twists coming, which made the ride all the more fun!

Let’s talk about the characters... oofta. The audacity — I mean, the level of gaslighting poor Frankie had to endure? Absolutely infuriating. 😤 Some of the snarky, jaw-dropping comments from her husband and mother-in-law had me gaping. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing at times.

It was incredibly well written and emotionally compelling throughout. The narrator also did a great job depicting the different characters. Be aware: the audiobook opens with two important trigger warnings — emotional abuse and sexual assault. Please tread carefully if those themes are sensitive for you. 💔

Overall, I'm Here to Help was a wild, intense thriller that kept me engaged from start to finish. And honestly... it might hit a little too close to home for some. It’s fiction, yes — but disturbingly believable.

At times, I felt like I was in a time warp… and you will better understand, as you get closer to the end of the tale. There were so many unpredictable twists! And a few that were somewhat expected… but overall, this is an exciting book!

Great narrator! I listened to this on audiobook advanced copy. I definitely recommend the book, just because it is so diabolical. But be mindful of trigger alerts.

Loved this book from beginning to end!

This is my first introduction to Ms. Lunn but I found it suspenseful the whole way through. I usually find "flashbacks" to be distracting, but these flashbacks helped me understand the story.

A pregnant Frankie s not sure whom to trust, but knows that her world is slowly changing. As she puts the pieces together the past is revealed and how it is shaping current events. Frankie knows she needs to protect her children, but she also wants to save her family.

When an unlikely ally reveals the truth to her, she's able to see clearly and what she sees is terrifying.

The story was entertaining with the great balance of mystery and suspense. I did find myself wanting to see another book to continue the story of one of the characters.

Much appreciation to Bookouture and NetGalley for allowing me to read in exchange for my opinion which is a solid thumbs up!

In this story, we meet mum, Frankie, she’s pregnant with her 2nd child, and has a 3year old daughter Olivia. She is suffering from severe morning sickness, otherwise known as hyperemesis gravidarum.
She has never fully got on with her mother in law, and sister in law, and when they 1st suggest, her and her husband take on a live in Nanny to help, she has her doubts. She feels they have gone behind her back and set this up, but she also knows she has little choice as she cannot manage as she is at the moment.

Jasmine, is a friend of her husbands family and reluctant Frankie agrees to a trial period. The trial soon turns into a full time position and Frankie starts to feel pushed out of her family. Her mother in law seems to prefer Jasmine and constantly makes arrangements for her and Olivia, leaving Frankie out.

Frankie starts to have her suspicions about her husbands relationship with Jasmine and things come to ahead and Frankie suffers a fall.

Once she is released from hospital she feels more and more isolated and as if she is being used out of her family by Jasmine.

I enjoyed listening to this story and felt it was well written and the narrator did a good job of portraying the characters. This story was told from both Frankie and Jasmines perspectives.

I am looking forward to discovering more from this author and would like to thank Netgalley for the opportunity to listen to this title

Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the digital copy of this book; I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The story is about Frankie & Russ, who are expecting their second child. Russ is a very busy doctor and wants to help out Frankie because managing a toddler AND being pregnant is not easy. Russ and his mother suggest they hire a family friend, Jasmine, as a nanny so Frankie can rest more. The funny thing is, weird stuff starts happening, and soon Frankie doesn’t know who she can trust because she thinks being in her home is unsafe. Is it just pregnancy hormones making her more emotional, or is there something more sinister happening?

I’m Here to Help is just the sort of thriller I love to read or listen to. There’s a lot of manipulation and gaslighting that remind of the old film noir movies of the 1940s and 1950s. There’s a lot of tension that just oozes off the pages. It’s definitely got a lot of suspense and can’t-put-it-down-ness. My workday went by so fast when I was listening to this book!

Elizabeth Bower is the narrator of the audiobook and does an excellent job of telegraphing Claire Lunn’s prose that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I would definitely listen to some other books narrated by Bower.

Audiobook Review: I'm Here to Help by Claire Lunn

I received this audiobook from NetGalley, and I truly appreciate the opportunity to discover new authors and leave reviews.

This was my first book by Claire Lunn, and it definitely won’t be my last! I'm Here to Help is a suspenseful and twisty thriller that had me hooked from the start. Just when I thought I had figured out who the bad guy was… I was wrong. Of course! The story kept me guessing all the way through.

The premise centers around a mom who hires a nanny to help with her child, only to realize that the nanny isn’t who she claims to be—and her true motives are far more unsettling. The slow unraveling of the truth created so much tension, and the pacing was just right.

The narrator did a fantastic job. I especially appreciated how she adjusted her voice for the child’s dialogue—it added a level of authenticity and really brought the characters to life. She also nailed the suspenseful moments, building anticipation in all the right places.

Thank you again to NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to and review this audiobook. I look forward to exploring more from Claire Lunn!

Rating: 3.5/5 ⭐⭐⭐✨ (rounded up to 4)

I’m Here to Help by Claire Lunn is a gripping and tension-filled domestic thriller with a few twists. The story centers on Frankie, who is struggling through a difficult pregnancy with intense nausea and fatigue. When her husband and in-laws insist on bringing on Jasmine, a family friend, as a live-in nanny, Frankie’s problems seem to compound. As the story unfolds and Frankie grows suspicious of the nanny, the line between paranoia and legitimate concern blurs.

I was torn between giving this a 3 or 4 star rating. The book had a well-paced plot and a steady build of suspense that kept me drawn to tuning in to learn what would happen next, so I went with rounding up to the 4-star. This was also Lunn’s debut novel, which was super impressive. I’d love to listen to her next novel.

The author excels at creating an atmosphere of unpredictability and draws the reader in emotionally, but I struggled to find any character I actually liked or wanted to root for. At times, I literally wanted to yell at them through my headphones! While I felt empathy for Frankie's troubling situation, her constant woe-is-me vibe and helplessness bothered me. She seemed frustratingly oblivious to what was happening around her and unable to recognize obvious solutions, which occasionally made her less believable as a character. I also wondered about gaps in her backstory. Maybe because of her general helpless vibe, I wanted to understand who Frankie was and what she did to support herself before meeting her husband. I was also curious about her lack of friends or any support system (other than the major factor that was brought up).

The themes of gaslighting, control, and manipulation throughout the book created an emotionally intense experience. While this demonstrates Lunn's skill at impacting readers and building psychological suspense, it sometimes felt overwhelming emotionally to engage with the book. Also, there were a few plot holes and underdeveloped elements about other characters that could have been explored to help readers connect more deeply with the story and possibly like the characters more.

Elizabeth Bower's narration was definitely a highlight! She distinguished between characters with different accents and styles that brought each personality to life without feeling cheesy or overdone (as can sometimes happen with audiobooks). The distinct character voices made the plot easy to follow and well suited to multitasking with simple chores, which is always a plus for me with audiobooks! I was excited to tune back in each time, as Bower's performance truly immersed me in the setting and suspense of the story.

Fans of BA Paris and Lisa Jewell will likely enjoy this psychological thriller. I appreciated that while the novel had some violence, it wasn't gruesome or grotesque. Despite my frustrations with certain character decisions and minor plot issues, the book's ability to maintain suspense and deliver unexpected twists makes it a worthwhile addition to any thriller fan's library; just be prepared to occasionally feel annoyed with the characters along the way!

Thanks to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the advanced listener's copy in exchange for my honest review.

Overall a very good listen. The twist was good but kinda predictable. Of course you know things aren’t what they seem to be.
It definitely tones into how we feel sometimes as women and our bodies changing with pregnancy.

The writing was good and the narrator was good.
The characters were well written and interesting.
At the end you’re definitely cheering for both Frankie and Jasmin.

This twisty psychological thriller makes a very listenable audiobook.

The plot is unpredictable, focusing as it does on Frankie, a young mum struggling to cope with life given the extreme morning sickness she experiences during her second pregnancy.

Her in laws persuade her to hire a family friend as a nanny, the young and beautiful Jasmine. It is not just Jasmine’s good lucks and flirtations with husband Ross that get Frankie’s hackles up however, as Frankie begins to suspect Jasmine’s intentions as she realises her morning smoothies are being tampered with!
So much happens in this gripping thriller. It is well written and expertly narrated!

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review his book in exchange for an advance copy.

This audiobook (with narration that was spot-on and accurate for all characters, genders and ages) kept my attention throughout. It is well-paced and easy to follow. Russ and his mother decide a nanny is just what Frankie needs as she faces her second pregnancy and a toddler underfoot. Young, beautiful Jasmine fits the bill nicely...or does she? I eventually figured out the twist but it is still a good suspenseful story for anyone looking for a new recommendation. Good for fans of Lisa Jewell and Nicole Trope.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARL. All opinions are mine.
