Ronald Malfi is not only a must read author for me but one of the most consistently reliable authors working in horror and/or dark fiction today. I have never read anything less than entertaining from him. Senseless fills the bill nicely with it's pacing and multiple story lines and pov's. My only peeve is that is was not a bit longer to go a little deeper into some secondary characters backstory. Overall very well done as usual.

Thank you Tanor Audio, Ronald Malfi and Netgalley for the audio arc of Senseless.
Narrated by Jenn Lee; Ray Greenley; Joe Hempel.
I've read a few of Ronald Malfi's books and I really enjoy his writing style that builds dread and intrigue with these horror elements. This one is no different. A slow burn, creepy and full of dread, Senseless brings together 3 people. 3 deeply unsettling perspectives which fall into a jaw dropping finale. This kept me both captivated and engaged throughout. It brings all your senses together and you're continually asking yourself. What do you see? What do you feel? What do you hear..
As always, Joe Hempel who part narrates this book pops out your earbuds, I just love the books he narrates. Jenn lee and Ray Greenley also do a brilliant job in keeping the characters separate and intriguing
4 stars

This was my first Ronald Malfi book! There are some other books he’s written that I am more excited to read now.
There are three plots and I could see how two could weave together but the third I had no idea what was going on. Over all I had no idea how it was going to end. I read and reread the description but nothing was given away. So many secrets to be uncovered!
This story takes place in Los Angeles and I love when stories take place in areas that I know. Cities and freeway names that I know are always exciting to read about.
This story is eerie and twisty with some supernatural bits. The writing is very atmospheric!

Another 5 star book by Ronald Malfi and frankly, I’m not surprised. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Jenn Lee, Ray Greenley, and Joe Hempel. Having the multiple narrators made it that much better!! I had so much fun with this one and was scratching my head trying to figure out how the multiple povs would connect. In the end everything came together perfectly and all I can say is Toby is one messed up individual. If you’re a fan of Ronald Malfis writing, like myself, be sure to pick this one up when it publishes on the 15th.
Thank you RBmedia and NetGalley for the early access to this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Another solid horror/thriller from Malfi! I don’t know how he consistently writes so many novels with great pacing, but this one is no different. Anyone who is already a Malfi fan will surely enjoy this one. I am quite bummed that I’ll have to wait until after its release to talk to anyone who has also read this damn thing.
The book begins with a familiar quote from the Dante’s Inferno, BUT!! Malfi credits the quote to American Psycho? So… the puzzles begin before the story even starts. The plot is centered around trying to figure out who murdered and mutilated an LA woman. We then follow 3 different storylines to piece together how characters are connected and the details of the murder. In the traditional Malfian way, the plot slowly unfolds in layers as the character’s complex lives and secrets start to surface.
I noticed there are several easter eggs throughout this, referencing his other novels. Overall, I loved this book! It was engaging, thoughtful, and was a "what the hell is going on" kind of read.
Thank to Tantor Audio and NetGalley for the ARC.

Senseless by Ronald Malfi
🌟🌟🌟🌟
This story is a supernatural and dark thriller, with secrets, grief and mental illness too.
The story starts off with a woman who is horrifically murdered in the desert, and Bill, the investigator, is working on this case. Then there is Maureen, who is young and spoiled and marrying for money. Lastly we meet Toby, who is rather odd and thinks of himself as a fly and his mom as a spider.
There are 3 different sub-plots in this book, which focus on Bill, Maureen, and Toby’s separate lives. These characters and their stories are then all blended and brought together, which is really entertaining!
The story is well written and very unique. It definitely wasn’t what I was expecting.
Thank you to NetGalley for an audio arc of this interesting book! The narrators did a fantastic job too!
*It comes out April 15th and I know Malfi fans will be diving in!*

I was very excited to receive this book. I’ve heard many good things about the author’s other works. I did find that this story was just not for me. I was intrigued from the beginning and wanted to find out who murdered the mystery woman in such a gruesome way. But the pacing felt slow. The flip flopping between different characters got to be confusing. Overall I just was not a huge fan of the writing style. I listen to audiobooks at a 1.75 speed and still felt the story wasn’t getting anywhere. The cover did make me want to read it. I dnf’d it about halfway through as much as I tried to push through it.

3 / 5
I've read two other Malfi novels (Snow and The Narrows .... and I am now remembering one called something December)
I think I enjoyed all of them more, and this one was ok. But that was it, for me personally. It was just ok.
I enjoyed certain elements that stand out in my mind. (I can't mention them, cuz they get into spoilers.)
But one thing I really hated was the way he wrote the women as being so damn thirsty and acting like doe-eyed pick me's. It felt unrealistic.
Not horrible but any means.... or even bad. But unfortunately for me, personally, I can't necessarily call it good.
It was ok though. And if you're a Ronald Malfi fan, check it out. Maybe I've just read too many horror novels at this point.

A woman is found murdered in the desert and the circumstances are exactly like a case from another murder one year earlier. But that killer was dealt with... right? This story is told through three different POV's which come together in an interesting way. I enjoyed this book but I was left wanting more. I love police procedurals but this one fell flat, most of the reveals happened in the two other POV's with the detective on this case playing catch up. This is only my second Malfi book and I will continue to check out his work.
Thank you to NetGalley and Tantor Audio for providing me with an audio arc in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you so so so so so much to RBmedia, Netgalley and the author for approving me an audio arc of this amazing novel. I was initially disappointed when I wasn't approved for the digital version of the arc so I didn't really get my hopes up this time when I requested for the audio version but to my surprise and delight, my request got approved. (Happy dance!) I downloaded and started listening to it right away and was hooked from start to finish. The writing style, plot and the narration were all so good and I listened for it the second time after finishing it. The voice narrators all did an amazing job and brought life to the characters. This one by far is my fave book out of all I've read this year. This is my first book by the author and I'm looking forward to reading others from his back list.

Great story, great narrators. I will be recommending this to all of my followers. The story was dark, twisty and the audiobook was really easy to follow along with. I get nervous with multi-pov audiobooks but Ronald, as always, did a spectacular job!

Where do I even start! This books is a very entertaining and gripping mix of horror and murder mystery that can get pretty dark at times. Set in the backdrop of Los Angeles it begins with Detective Bill Renney who is involved in investigating a brutal murder case. A mutilated body is discovered in the desert, and the case is very reminiscent of an other one that happened a year prior.
Then we have our second story of Maureen Park, who is newly engaged to a Hollywood producer Greg Dawson. She struggles with her situation as Greg’s son comes
back to town acting very strangely. Landon is pretty creepy. Finally we follow Toby Kampen who is a self-proclaimed “Human Fly,” . He becomes infatuated with a lady with very peculiar appearance sporting strange vampire like teeth.
Malfis masterful story telling navigates these narratives, creating suspense and psychological depth while keeping you on your toes. This was not my favorite Malfi book, I especially didn’t care as much for Toby’s story as I found it at times to drag a little.
But the book overall was entertaining, and I definitely enjoyed reading it.
Thank you NetGallery for a chance to review this book!

Senseless by Ronald Malfi
If you’re already a Malfi fan (and let’s be real, who isn’t), Senseless delivers in all the deliciously eerie ways he does best. His storytelling feels like you're following a thread in the dark — you think you know where it’s going, until it yanks in a whole new direction.
The multiple POVs? Perfection. Every single time a new character popped up or the perspective shifted, I found myself side-eyeing everyone. “Is it you?? What are you hiding?? Who can I trust??” I was in full-blown detective mode with no evidence.
The pacing builds that creeping dread so well, with layers of mystery slowly unfolding, never giving you the full picture until you’re in way too deep. Malfi doesn’t just tell a story, he traps you inside it — and Senseless does exactly that.
Also… major kudos to the narrators of this audiobook. Jenn Lee, Ray Greenley, and Joe Hempel. The performances were absolutely on point, each narrator breathing life and unease into their roles with just the right dose of suspense, emotion, and that low-level buzz of "something’s not quite right." I was hooked.
If you like…
• Psychological thrillers with unreliable narrators
• Gritty crime meets supernatural dread
• Books that make you question every single character's intentions
…you’ll be obsessed with this one.
Would I recommend this book?
Absolutely. This is peak Malfi. If you love books that make you feel like you're being watched while you read, Senseless is calling your name. I’d recommend it to fans of Paul Tremblay, Stephen Graham Jones, and anyone who wants their thriller with a side of existential dread.
Thank you to Tantor Audio and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read and review this banger.

Senseless by Ronald Malfi is a brilliantly written twisty tale. The body of a murdered woman is found on the outskirts of the City of Angels, there are many signals that point to the thought that there may be a serial killer on the loose. The detective on the case Bill Renney is supposed to be investigating this crime but he has seemed to put himself in an unfortunate situation. Greg Dawson and Maureen Park find their engagement party crashed by Greg's creepy adult son Landon. Then we have the self-proclaimed Human Fly, Toby and the woman he is obsessed with. The woman that has rattle snake teeth, likes to bite and who may or may not be human. During this fever dream of a book, you will eventually see how all this comes together to create a gripping, twisty thriller.
I do not know if I can recommend reading this book in audio format. I will absolutely recommend getting a physical book which I plan on doing as soon as possible. There are 3 different voice actors. I had no problem listening and absorbing Jen Lee's performance it was actually terrific. Whoever narrated the Human Fly's POV either Joe Hempel or Ray Greenley did not work for me. I found myself zoning out and thinking of other things, similar to my high school history teacher - nice guy but his tone and voice didn't make me want to listen. It was very hard for me to follow along and I found myself pausing and backing up regularly. I feel as if I missed so much.
I would typically rate an audiobook like this 2.5 stars, but because the story itself was so good a 4.5-star book maybe even 5 (I need to read the physical copy for absolute certainty). I am going to rate it in the middle, and I will be back after I read the physical book with a much higher rating, I am sure.
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced audiobook copy of Senseless by Ronald Malfi.

I genre bending horror with multiple POV's that can leave you wondering who exactly is hallucinating and drag you kicking and screaming to the brink of insanity.
Disclaimer: I read this as a tandem read (leading a little more heavily on the audiobook) via a NetGalley audiobook arc and a physical arc copy from Titan the publisher.
A triple POV narration with a cast of narrators in the audiobook sets a layered and dramatic storyline. I enjoyed this audiobook narration with the cast of narrators. Each narrator had a different POV, and the only issue I have with the audiobook was the tempo between the narrators. I found myself having to change the pace of the audiobook, depending on the current narrator, and that made listening to the audiobook while doing things around the house a little difficult at times. But this is fully a "me" problem, not necessarily a problem with the audiobook. Just be aware if you need all of your narrators to have a similar tempo, that does not happen in this audiobook.
I enjoyed all of the POV's in this novel. I did find myself falling into a little bit of a slump with Toby's POV. He tended to ramble and be very repetitive and that did get me lost a few times. But overall, I found all of the POV's very interesting and to lend a lot of drama to the storyline. I did put a few things together pretty early on in the book. But the way that they were wrapped up at the end was very unique and interesting. I do feel like the end was a very satisfying reveal, and I felt everything tied up pretty nicely. I did not end up having too many questions at the end of the novel.
I really like the induction of a paranormal aspect to the novel as well as the implication surrounding mental health and family relationships. )Please be aware that we do not ever get an official diagnosis for the particular character who is representing mental health) I really enjoyed how the seperate storylines really seemed to have nothing to do with each other until all of a sudden they interwove seamlessly. Then I was a little mad at myself for not making some of the connections because they did seem very obvious once I was aware of them. That's the kind of good storytelling when you are so close in the story your brain is not necessarily trying to fix things, but it's just going along for the ride.
This is my first book by this author, so I cannot compare it to any of their other publications. But I can say it kept me on the edge of my seat and I had several moments where I just stared at the novel in complete surprise when things are revealed. I will definitely be reading more of this authors work. This was well done and compelling.

Received an arc copy for a honest review and I really enjoyed this book. This is my first book by the author and won’t be my last. The character development is brilliant and the mystery of who did it kept my interest. I loved how all the sub stories all fit together in the end. This is a dark gritty book and the writing style is so descriptive and addictive. 4 stars 🌟 really good.

Let me just say, WOW!
The character development is magnificent! I enjoyed the entire story and the narrators brought a fantastic emotional sensation. Joe Hempel, Ray Greenley, and Jenn Lee did such an amazing job brining everyone to life.
The story just wrapped around me and I fell into a sweet dream as the anguish and fears of the story progresses. The ending... oh my word. I don't think I can recover from all this.
This story is going to linger for a very long time.

4 stars! My first Ronald Malfi (I know, I know—don’t come for me), and it did not disappoint. Think: Black Dahlia meets something… not quite human. Twisty, creepy, and totally bingeable. One storyline dragged a smidge, but I was still all in. Excuse me while I binge read all of his books!

I’ve only read one other Ronald Malfi book, and I wasn’t a fan of it because I didn’t feel much happened to keep me engaged. This book started out that way, a slow start but the ending where everything came together totally shocked me!! I loved it! The myriad of themes present in this book just made the story that much easier to get lost in and I really appreciated how easy it was to get connected to these characters only to find out they were hiding something BIG! I got caught off guard every time! No one is safe.
As for the audiobook, I absolutely loved the narrator’s. Joe Hempel also narrated an audiobook I listened to recently and I’m a big fan of his, so I loved how he narrated his part of the story. All of the narrator’s had a friendly communicative tone to their narration which I loved because I felt like I was another character in the story.

I listened to this & wish I had it to read instead. The accent for the narrators are just really off putting for me so I can’t concentrate on the actual storyline.
I feel like it would be a good book if I read it but unfortunately I can’t carry on listening with these narrators it’s just so robotic 😔
