How far will you go to snag your dream home? In this book we get to find out JUST how far Margo is willing to take things.

As a millennial who loves scouring Zillow for hours daydreaming about houses I will never live in, I was really excited and looking forward to this book. With the promise of thrills and laughter, I couldn’t wait to pick this up.

The first chapter really draws you in. You get a feel for just how desperate Margo is. But as the story progresses, I sat there confused because it didn’t read like a thriller at all. It felt more like a general fiction book. So I was a bit thrown off. It wasn’t until 30% in where things picked up a bit. Even then it didn’t feel like a thriller. Maybe more of a mystery type book.

Margo is absolutely UNHINGED. And I’m not too sure if it is in a good way. Her head was a scary place to be in. She is unfortunately unlikeable and I didn’t find myself rooting for her (even though I really, really wanted to.)

I did however really enjoy the tension between her and her husband. And towards the end when Margo becomes increasingly desperate & deranged it really started to feel like a thriller I enjoyed that part a lot.

Though the humor didn’t quite land for me, the story was still engaging. It offered a fresh take that set it apart from typical thrillers.

I’m pretty neutral on whether I’d recommend this, but if the premise intrigues you, it’s worth giving a try.

This book was SO good—absolutely impossible to put down once I started. Margo wants ( REALLY wants) the perfect house and nothing is going to stand in her way. Gripping, intense and absolutely diabolical—I loved this book!

I love mystery and thriller a lot. I love domestic suspense even more. For a first novel, author Marisa Kashino, pulled out all the stops. I can’t wait to see what she does with her second book.
Best offer wins centers around Margo and her husband Ian. Margo has a dream and nothing is going to get in her way. As she navigates the world of real estate, she also finds out just what lengths she will go to so that her dream becomes a reality.

5 stars for me! Engaging plot, well written and paced, wickedly funny and deliciously evil. Margo was SO well written! A truly delightful read!

Best Offer Wins was beyond crazy. Margo is a complete nut job who will get the home of her dreams by any means necessary. The tension between the characters made it hard for me to put down. Thank you NetGalley and Celadon for this advanced readers copy in exchange for my honest review.

Forget your standard unreliable narrator, this book is giving a totally unhinged one instead. 🫣

In BEST OFFER WINS, Marisa Kashino, sucks readers into a total tailspin as the main character, Margo, spirals into oblivion- where her obsession knows no bounds. Raised in a home where her shyster father made life unstable, Margo has done everything in her power to rebuild her life into the idyllic. So far everything has gone by the book: prestigious college degree ✔️, thriving career in PR ✔️, ideal & trustworthy husband ✔️, lucrative sale of their starter home ✔️. However, Margo feels control slipping from her grasp as she and her husband face infertility and a suddenly impossible housing market. After being outbid time and again, her desperation reaches new heights. When she catches wind of a new house going up for sale in her dream neighborhood, she wastes no time finding an “in” that will secure her bid- stopping at nothing to get her to the life she dreams. But has she really managed to avoid repeating her father’s mistakes? Or has she surpassed his level of selfish ambition?

It’s propulsive, psychological, and totally off the rails. Margo is horrifying and the comparison Alex Michaelides makes to Gone Girl’s narrative voice is actually pretty accurate. Her head was one of the scariest settings I’ve been. 🫢

Thank you @netgalley @celadonbooks and @marisakashino for the advanced e-galley! This debut thriller hits shelves 11/25.

I really liked this book and once I started, I couldn’t put it down.
This is a cautionary tale about one woman’s quest for the perfect life. The only problem she and her husband are having is finding a home in a very competitive market. As far as Margo is concerned, no home, no baby, no perfect life. Her husband, Ian, wants to take a break from the bidding wars, but Margo is obsessed and has her own agenda. The lengths she goes to when the perfect home comes along, are beyond crazy. Will Margo get her dream home and perfect life? Not for lack of trying!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Celadon for granting my wish for this book! I'm so glad you did as this book was CRAZY!! Margo was so unhinged and I loved her. I couldn't help but root for her even at the end when you see how nuts she really becomes. I feel like there should be a sequel at some point because of how the story ended. I really enjoyed this.

This book was a bit silly, in a good way. The first 30% I was confused because it was not a thriller, but it got there!

Margo and Ian have been looking for a house but it’s impossible to find one amid a seller’s market. They have to compete with cash offers and go way above asking. Margo is getting increasingly desperate to find a house in the perfect neighborhood because she needs the house then she can check that off her list and move to the next part of her life’s plan. She becomes increasingly unhinged and it’s cringy to read. But I devoured it in one day. It was a rollercoaster to watch Margo get increasingly desperate darker as she stops at nothing to find the house of her dreams. Thank you St Martin’s Press for my gifted galley of ‘Best Offer Wins’.

I loved Best Offer Wins by Marisa Kashino! A wild, twist‑filled ride through obsession, ambition, class, and the housing game. Darkly funny and impossible to put down. Thanks to Celadon Books for the ARC!

This book was dark, disturbing, hilarious, and about real estate. Among other things.

Having just recently purchased my own house (well, a condo), I was in the mood to read something about other people having the same experience-except, you know, interesting. Because let’s face it, buying a house is stressful, dull, and exhausting. Until you’re done and you can move in. This book was absolutely the story I was looking for, and it was also absolutely unhinged in the best way.

Margo REALLY wants that house. Like a lot. Like a batshit crazy amount of a lot. And it was entertaining as hell.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. And this review is honest: I loved this little morsel of insanity and I look forward to reading whatever Marisa Kashino puts out next!

I could not stop reading this insane book. What a dark, hilarious, disturbing debut! We all know the housing market is bonkers, and none more than our main character, Margo. She will do just about anything to buy the house of her dreams, and she does! Margo is completely unhinged, and I loved every bit of it!

This wasn't quite what I was hoping for but it was definitely entertaining. If you enjoy watching unlikable characters behave in ever more unhinged ways—against the backdrop of a cutthroat real estate market in a coveted neighborhood—this one's for you.

This book is Cray Cray! If you’ve ever tried to buy a house during a seller’s market, you may understand, bidding wars, cash offers, and so much disappointment when your offer isn’t chosen. Margot is not willing to go through that again. Some insider information leads her to make some decisions that well, reduce her chances of buying her dream home. But Margo is not someone to accept defeat. When something happens in her personal life, she turns a soul crushing negative into what she sees as a positive.
And OMG, I could not believe how far she went! All I can stay without entering spoiler territory is that she is so out of control, and yet cool, calm, and collected. You would need to read Best Offer Wins to see if her plan worked or if she is still sadly not the best offer.
I could not stop flipping the pages and finish this in an afternoon. If this character came to life, I would not cross her, no matter what!

How far would you go for the house of your dreams?

All Margo wants is a new home and a healthy baby. When she gets a call about a beautiful house about to go on the market, she decides to go see it. She becomes obsessed with the home, to the point she is stalking the owners to trick them into being friends. Once the truth comes out, she takes things even further.

I love that one minute you are rooting for Margo and the next you are just shocked at how far she is willing to go. As she gets sucked into the obsession of owning this home, her real life is crumbling around her. The ending was so good!! This was a thrilling read with some humor.

3.5 rounded to 4.

I really wanted to love this book. While the premise was there and the writing style was great the main character was just awful. Not even a little bit of any single redeeming quality. That kept it from a solid 4 or even maybe a 5 star for me. There were little peeks of a joking banter directed at the reader which I loved. The layers and twist of the plot was great. Just really really bad main character energy. I wish there would have been at least one thing that was left decent about Margo for the reader to attach to and root for, it would have pushed the book to the next level.

Thank you to Celadon books and NetGalley for the ARC! This was such a fun, diabolical read. As unlikable as the narrator, Margo, is, I loved being inside her crazy mind. Great satire of the housing market, while also poking fun at the world surrounding infertility (as someone who also faced that battle).

This book was enthralling and kept me on my toes and guessing until the very end. I love thrillers where you never can predict what will happen until the author chooses to reveal so, and this book did that over and over. I also thought the concept of this book and it being about securing a house was unique and relatable to many. I was so engaged in the book I read it in one sitting. I would definitely recommend this to all Thriller fans!!

Once I started reading Best Offer Wins, I knew my day was booked! Margo’s maniacal attempts to secure her dream home at all costs kept me riveted to this dark domestic thriller about house hunting gone wrong . Who knew securing the house of your dreams could be so wild!\. Each page had me either laughing out loud or in shock from her extreme actions to get what she wanted, but they all kept me on the edge of my seat until I finished the last page of this satisfying page-turner. Highly recommend!
