Didn't realize at first that this was a sequel series, but still enjoyed it! I really liked the characters and world building. I am looking forward to seeing more!
Thank you to NetGalley and VIZ Media.

I did not realize that this was a sequel series, so my initial thoughts were that I was very confused and having a hard time following along, but now I realize I'm missing 16 volumes worth of context. I really enjoyed the artwork and what appeared to be very careful worldbuilding in this volume. The characters were also intriguing and I was curious about their lives and history. This is definitely not a series you should read separately of the original, but it intrigued me enough I'm thinking of trying to read it from the beginning.

In 2019, Aya Shouoto brought The Demon Prince of Momochi House to an end. But the story isn’t over! A sequel series kicked off in 2023 and is still running. And next month, Viz kicks off the new series as part of its shoujo collection. Read on to find out where Himari and Aoi are now. What new ghost stories will they face? And, after all that’s happened, where does Aoi really belong?
A New Story
The Demon Prince of Momochi House: Succession picks up several years after the original series ended. Himari Momochi’s ancestral home is gone, and she now lives in a new “Momochi House.” Her beloved Aoi Nanamori is with her, of course. But their relationship is a difficult one, and not just because of their strange discrepancy in age. Despite Aoi’s best efforts, he can’t seem to make their wedding records at the registry stick. All traces of him were remove from the world, after all.
Thus, Aoi has begun seeking out families that could be connected to the Nanamori family. But that’s not all he’s having to wrestle with. Himari’s new home has become something of a new Momochi House. That means spirits flock to it. And in this first volume, we meet an unusual pair of ghosts who might just have ties to one of the couple’s old adventures.
New or Returning?
If you’re a returning fan, diving back into The Demon Prince of Momochi House will be simple. Lots of familiar faces have returned, and it’s made clear early on when and where everything takes place. There are even throwbacks to stories from the original manga.
But what if you’re a new reader? Well, Viz has all 16 volumes available, in case you want to start from the very beginning. Or you can watch the anime adaptation on Crunchyroll! If you choose to dive in with no background, you may struggle a bit at the very beginning. There’s not an early-doors recap, though elements of the story do show up here and there as you read along. We definitely suggest enjoying the original before you start this one!
Does It Hold Up?
The Demon Prince of Momochi House: Succession doesn’t rest everything on the central story of Himari and Aoi. There’s plenty to say about their burgeoning relationship, of course, with Himari now in grad school and Aoi lost in a past that never existed. But the manga has plenty of new tricks up its sleeves, weaving the couple’s new challenges in between visits from new spirits. The first mystery, about a lovey-dovey ghost couple sharing a body, grabs you right from the beginning.
If you’ve ever wished your favorite shoujo manga couple just had a little more time, then this is a series you’ll want to start on as soon as it lands.

Several years after the events in Momochi House, return to Aoi and Himari as they settle into adulthood. Told from Aoi's perspective, this story recounts the lingering traces of power and the consequences of that power that for a boy who one hosted yokai. Aoi and Himari search for their new normal as they face the world together.
It was lovely to return to these characters and very nice to see Aoi's perspective. I did need a little refresher on the original series to feel caught up to start this new tale.

The sequel series following the supernatural fantasy romance between a girl who moved into a haunted house and the boy trapped within it as it's guardian spirit. Aoi and Himari are finally living together and Aoi is finally back to being a human.. but despite everything seeming perfect and they are engaged... they still have an age gap between them since Aoi was freed from when he was trapped. Now Aoi is in graduate school and also working part time and solving mysterious while Himari is working and teaching. Aoi begins to try and find out his family tree and what is happening while also being haunted by his past... and how he will work as the guardian now that he no longer has the same powers that he had before. I adored the original series so when I saw that there would be a spin off continuation of the series I knew I wanted to read it. It's nice to return back to these characters and get to see more of their romance and their life together. I can't wait to read the next book and see where it goes next!
