Thank you so much to Olivia Blacke, St. Martin's Press | Minotaur Books, and NetGalley for this ARC of Death at the Door.

This is the second book in a series about Ruby, a young professional, and Cordelia, a ghost whose fully furnished apartment is now Ruby's apartment. This book follows the duo as they try to solve the murder of a local deli's delivery man. Something I love about this series is that you don't have to read the first one to be able to read the second one. While it would be helpful to give context and more depth to the characters, these books do seem to be standalone reads.

Ruby and Cordelia work so well together and these books are so fun and easy to read. If you like a touch of paranormal and easy to love characters, this series is definitely for you. I hope the next book will finally reveal more about Cordelia's death and will wrap up this second book!

4/5 stars!

With visually descriptive narrative and witty banter between the two protagonists, the author set the stage for this fast-paced and well-written whodunit. The mystery was nicely executed with a comfortable tone making it easy to follow the path that author has intended. Each chapter gave us their points of view which helped the reader decipher the clues that were presented, especially with the small list of suspects. There were a few red herrings that led me in different directions, and it was fun watching it played out with the revelation of the killer’s identity and their motive. I also liked seeing more of Ruby and Cordelia’s backstory and how it led them to one another and the introduction of a few characters who I hope return. Overall, this was a terrific read, and I look forward to more exploits with Ruby and Cordelia and hope we can solve another murder or two.

I love this series and the dual viewpoints. I love how each has its own voice and even the banter between them while they can't communicate directly. I wonder if, based on what happens here, if that communication is going to improve as well.
Such a great ending too. Can't wait for the next one.

Ruby and Cordelia are back. Ruby is working at the tech company as the office manager. the job Cordelia left behind. Cordelia is learning how to be a ghost from Harp, who recently departed from the 1980s. When the deli delivery driver is found dead by Ruby in the company bathroom. They decide to investigate. I love how Cordelia is able to go everywhere and interact with items and make electronics go kaput. I'm loving the backstory and learning more about Cordelia and her brother Ian. I'm so excited to see what happens next. I'm hooked on this series. once I started this book I could not put it down. I loved following the clues.

Death at the Door is a great follow up to A New Lease on Death. I really enjoyed the dual point of view between Ruby and Cordelia. Like the first novel, the two main characters work to solve a murder but the main mystery around Cordelia’s death remains unsolved. Olivia Blacke dies a fantastic job at writing a fun mystery and leaves you wanting more!

Death at the Door is the second book in the Ruby and Cordelia Mysteries series. In this installment, Ruby and her ghost roommate Cordelia work together to solve another mystery. The series is incredibly enjoyable, and the dynamic between Ruby and Cordelia is so much fun to read. If you enjoy cozy mysteries with a paranormal twist, I highly recommend giving this series a chance. I can't wait to read more. Thanks to NetGalley and Orbit Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review. I'll post my review closer to the publication date. Death at the Door by Olivia Blacke

Dear Fellow Reader,

Yes, if you are following this blog, I am catching up today. I found I had 6 books that I had been asked to review, and had not written the reviews. But I am now down to three books, and none of them have been released yet. So, I will be doing what I dislike doing. I will publish reviews before the books are released. I hate to do it because I hate to tell you about a book that you cannot read yet. But then again, I need to get the reviews written before I forget the book.
So, off we go…
Death at the Door by Olivia Blacke is the second in a series of books about Ruby and Cordelia. I reviewed the first book in the series (You can read it here). Ruby is alive and Cordelia is a ghost. In this book, while Ruby is at work, the deli delivery guy is murdered in the bathroom. After his death, Ruby finds out that he was a drug dealer. She and Cordelia investigate his murder, as it seems the police are not that interested in finding out what happened to him.
In the course of the story, we meet Ruby’s new neighbor, who happens to work for a major competitor of the company she works for. Ruby still isn’t really very clear about what her company does but it is surprising that her new handsome neighbor is a competitor. Especially a competitor that may put Ruby’s company out of business. And then Cordelia’s brother arrives fresh from prison. While Cordelia is happy to see him, she does not trust him and needs to warn Ruby not to trust him either.
Communication between Ruby and Cordelia is still a problem, and they keep trying to find ways to get messages across. It seems that if Ruby gets drunk (she doesn’t drink normally), she can see and talk to Cordelia, but there is always a question as to whether or not she will remember the conversation.
And Cordelia still doesn’t really understand how she died and while she tries not to wonder, she is getting closer to wanting to know what happened. Ruby finds out more about Cordelia and her relationships with her co-workers.
I know that these books sound a bit hokey. I find them an enjoyable read. I will admit that I am getting a bit tired of waiting for Cordelia and Ruby to figure out who killed Cordelia. If there is a next book, I think we are at the point where that has to be solved.
Yes, I recommend this book. It is a light read. May I even suggest a good beach read?

Thanks for reading.

I just finished reading this second book in the series, and I loved it even more than the first. Cordy and Ruby are such an interesting duo, with one being a ghost and the other alive. I adore how they try and “speak” to each other, and they still get through with the barest minimum. Add to that, I love the way that Ruby is making a place for herself at Cordy’s old workplace. We also get a good mystery along with all this fun stuff. I just love this series, and I can’t wait to see what the end is going to bring in the next installment. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

I think Ruby and Cordy are my new favorite crime fighting duo! Love how they interact, finding ingenious ways to communicate from 90’s fridge magnet poetry tiles to the steam on glass. Death at the Door was a fun cozy mystery ending with a cliff hanger that wants book 3 now!! Ruby works at Cordelia’s pre death job as a receptionist at TrendCelerate, a computer company. There was a death in the hallway bathroom that was accidental….or was it? With Ruby hitting the pavement, and Cordelia assisting in her ghostly form, they come to the bottom of it and learn what really happened.

Thank you to NetGalley and St Martin’s Press for this advanced reader copy.

Death at the Door picks up Ruby and her ghost roommate Cordelia’s story with even more mystery and paranormal fun. You don’t have to read the first book, but it helps to get the full scoop on their quirky dynamic.

This time, a new murder hints that Cordelia’s death wasn’t suicide after all—cue conspiracy! While Ruby and Cordelia team up (ghost + human communication is tricky), there’s romance brewing and Cordelia’s brother shows up to shake things up.

I’m hooked and can’t wait for the next book—these two make a seriously badass duo!

I had not known what to expect when I read the first book in this series. I ended up liking it. When this came out, I wanted to see where it was going. We get to see more of what had been happening in Cordelia's life before she died. Ruby is working at Cordelia's old job when the deli delivery guy is killed in the bathroom. This leads her to become involved in finding out who was the culprit. She finds out some things about Cordelia that aren't so great. Cordelia is working on increasing her ghost powers and I hope they will be able to communicate better in future books. The ending was a surprise to me, the culprit and motive are not obvious. An enjoyable read that I hope will continue.

This series is such a comforting, clever delight. Olivia Blacke’s writing is light on its feet but still emotionally grounded. The tone is cozy without being fluffy, and the ghostly twist never feels gimmicky. It adds this bittersweet edge that makes the story linger in your heart. I already adored the first book, but this one deepened my love for the series. It’s fun, heartfelt, and quietly powerful in how it explores friendship, identity, and what it means to choose connection even when it’s hard. I’m obsessed.

Another cute lil murder with Cordy and Ruby. I had hoped we’d get answers about Cordelia’s death, but there are even more questions now with the arrival of neighbor Tosh.

I suppose I will be happy knowing there will be at least one more book in the series. And if not, I will haunt the publisher myself.

Ruby and her ghost roomie are back! As enjoyable as the first one, Ruby trips over a body of the food delivery guy at work and gets pulled into a complicated web of secrets. If only it were easier to communicate with Cordelia ...

I adore this series, but gah the way this ends! Such a cliff hanger. I love the dynamic between Ruby and Cordelia. I read this as an arc and was so excited to get the opportunity after falling in love with them in book 1. The writing keeps you interested and wanting to keep reading even when you say “this is the last chapter”. Cordelia’s personality, demeanor, and commentary for no one to hear add a sense of humor and sass that adds enjoyment to from start to finish.

Ruby and Cordelia’s relationship further deepens and the banter continues in Death at the Door. I do think we get more of each person’s viewpoint and they have more individual storylines in this one from the first. It seems that they go off and have their own adventures and come together. I enjoyed the additional characters introduced in this storyline. The personalities still show through with the main characters and the suspects have their own traits and identifiers which helps keep them all separate from each other when remembering who is who.

I cannot wait for book 3. I love that Olivia has multiple mysteries within each book and that some roll over. I’m still intrigued to keep going with the series because some mysteries have yet to be answered. At the same time, the largest ones each book are wrapped up by the end. It’s a great way to keep the reader engaged and making them interested to keep going with future publications - solve some parts; leave some unanswered. Chefs kiss in tactics.

Death at the Door was a great installment in the Ruby and Cordelia series, and I enjoyed the continuation of their escapades. The new mystery that was presented in this book was interesting, but I wished that we could've had a bit more of the main story surrounding Cordelia. The ending was an exciting cliffhanger, so I'm looking forward to reading the next book!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an ARC of this book!
