OMFG I love this book! It’s a cute kitschy cookbook perfect for any Halloween fans to add to their collection. (Let’s be real who doesn’t have at least one cookbook?)
Elvira is a personal icon of mine and I was so stoked to get my hands on the arc copy. There’s humor in the writing. So keep an eye out for those subtle hints “voluptuous dough” etc.
Looking through the recipes the instructions and ingredients seem straightforward. Nothing too exotic that I saw or something you’d have to special order. It seems to be written for the everyday user, not someone who had to attend years of culinary school to bake a themed cake.
There were food images with wonderful macabre decor or illustrations throughout the book. Keeping to its theme, we even have some bondage napkin ring ideas and how-to for our DIY-ers out there.
I made the Reaper Roasted Potatoes and they were pretty good! Would make again for the family.

Creepy, campy, gorgeous, this cookbook is just like the Mistress of the Dark. The writing is witty and full of puns, in Elvira's voice. I only had a portion of the book in my advanced reader copy, but the book was frighteningly fun. There are set menus based on party themes with little DIYs to host a perfect party. The menus are good, none of the food is too fussy or involved, and the photos offer a great glimpse of how to present the recipes. Perfect for those ghouls who love anything creepy.
Thank you to Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for this eARC

I love a good novelty cookbook. While I have only read the excerpt provided to me by NetGalley, what I have read was delightfully funny, filled with beautiful photos, and left me wanting more. Definitely shelf worthy.

A gorgeous package - full of colorful, spooky photos and the author's signature humor., which is really all I expected from this title. But the recipes are legit delicious and fun and surprisingly vegetarian friendly (Tamari Tapeworm Noodles and Swamp Monster Green Frittata were standouts so far.) I really respect the thought that went into these recipes, hosting tips, and little anecdotes from Peterson herself. It's a great gift for Christmas AND Halloween.

Halloween aficionados will be excited for the release of Elvira's Cookbook from Hell: Sexy, Spooky Soirées and Celebrations for Every Occasion, by Cassandra Peterson, creator of the character Elvira.
This cookbook is filled with menus and themes for different types of parties, all with a macabre nuance. The recipes are for very appealing and many scary dishes, and the author has given them names that are meant to be clever, but are only okay. The recipes are written in the traditional manner with the ingredients listed first, followed by step-by-step instructions to make them easy to follow. The author has added comments at the beginning of the recipes.
An excellent aspect of this cookbook is that most of the recipes include beautiful, professional photographs that have Halloween themed backdrops. This sets the mood whether readers are just reading or cooking. Unfortunately, the advanced review copy I received was only a short excerpt, so this reviewer wasn’t able to look at all the recipes or try them.
All told, this is a fun book for those who love Halloween. It is, however a bit pricey and isn’t affordable by many of us. It is difficult to give five stars to a book that the publisher has sent only a sample, so it is recommended that readers look at the actual book to decide whether it is worth it.
Special thanks to NetGalley for supplying a review sample of this book.

Loved these recipes and I love Elvira! These would be great for not just Halloween - but any time of year.

Didn't realize that it was an excerpt. Was hoping to look at more recipes, but enjoyed the dishes that were showed. My only complaints are with the cover and whoever decided to put black font on a dark red background.
Otherwise, this would be fun book for Halloween and an Elvira marathon.

I received a copy of this eBook from netGalley for a honest review.
For some reason only the first chapter downloaded but I found it to be creative and interesting. The food, crafts and decorating tips were all spot on for having a creepy good time. I will get this book to see it in it's entirety.

I was not aware that this was a sample and not the entire book. The table of contents does list several recipes that sound good, but I wasn't able to see the recipes. I am not sure if there is a lot I am going to use.
4 stars

Elvira and food...what's better than that? I'm looking forward to trying out many recipes from this book and will be buying a physical copy.

Even if you aren’t into Halloween or spooky, this would be a great cookbook! These recipes are awesome with a spooky twist. I’ll admit I was expecting a kitschy cookbook but I was wrong. Yes- there’s kitsch but it’s also a solid cookbook underneath the kitschy.

DISCLAIMER #1: I am reviewing a partial digital excerpt of this cookbook, not the entire cookbook itself.
I'm not usually one to request cookbooks, but when I saw this one, I just couldn't resist requesting it. Growing up, Elvira was such a huge part of Halloween (I'm old enough to remember when she even had a haunted house virtual ride at some amusement parks), that I knew I had to get my hands on her cookbook. Even if it was just a pre-release excerpt.
Right off the bat, let me tell you that as I was reading the quirky passages between in recipes? I absolutely read them in her iconic voice. Everything about that part of the book was exactly as I had expected. I enjoyed how she put her own trademarked Halloween spin on things, making it fun to read instead of the usual boredom I feel when you have to read a paragraph before getting to the actual recipe ideas.
The recipes themselves however? Left a bit to be desired. Now granted as I said above, I only received an excerpt of the book and my copy contained ideas to host a brunch. I definitely wish there had been a bit more variety, maybe one or two ideas from each of the chapters that will be in the finished product so that I could speak more about them. As it was, while the lead up was original and quirky, the recipes themselves seemed to be the same run of the mill ones you could find anywhere on the internet just by searching "spooky brunch ideas" or "Halloween brunch recipes".
Even with that, I would definitely buy a copy of this cookbook when it comes out! I can't wait to try not only the recipes, but to see what other fun and spooky ideas she has for hosting the perfect Halloween party!
DISCLAIMER #2: I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

*Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the free copy*
A decent cookbook, I had only received a portion and the table of contents look like a good variety of party food to make at home. If you’re big on Halloween and Elvira in general, you might love the full cookbook, but you can just as easily snag a themed recipe elsewhere.

I was fortunate to receive a digital ARC through NetGalley. This ARC contained the first section of the cookbook, and it looks devilishly delectable! The recipes are simple enough for a beginner, but look gory & gorgeous enough to impress any guest to death. I look forward to the release of this cookbook so that I can admire every page and attempt every recipe.
Thank you to Elvira, Grand Central Publishing, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

I only read an excerpt of this fun cookbook, but I would read the whole thing. Elvira's signature personality and sense of humor are present throughout the book and the pictures are great. The section I got to read was her intro and the brunch menu, plus a fun craft (a napkin ring).
I like that the food recipes are easily explained and they can be customized for vegetarians/vegans and the drink recipes can be made non-alcoholic. I would recommend it to any Elvira fan and people who like spooky cookbooks.
I received a free excerpt of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my review. All opinions are my own.

Absolutely loved Elvira’s Cookbook from Hell! The whole cookbook is dark, spooky, and full of campy horror glam. As a big fan of the movie, it was a such a treasure to get to read it early! I ventured into making the “Mourning” Buns and they were to die for. The name made me laugh and the recipe turned out rich, gooey, and seriously tasty. Every recipe has that cheeky Elvira charm which made this such a fun read! Thank you very much Grand Central Publishing for the ARC!

If you’re an Elvira fan and like to collect anything related to her, then this will be a good book for you! Inside, you will find a variety of spoopy recipes and crafts. While the ARC I received is a 29-page excerpt, I fully plan on buying the book.. From the 29-pages I did receive, it looks like a fun book full of tasty recipes and dining crafts with a spoopy spin on them. While there isn’t anything necessarily new, it’s perfect for the Halloween vibes whether or not you are an Elvira fan.

I love Elvira, and this book just is perfection.
The recipes are spread over multiple courses! The sausage guts is one I’m actually excited to make.
The flow of the book, the photos and the little quips with each recipe really just seeps Elvira!
Great gift for a foodie and a Halloween/Elvira fan!

The queen of darkness is sharing her recipes for her deliciously dark treats and proving that Halloween isn't just once a year. Perfect nostalgic vibes for any fan.
