This was not what I was expecting. While I enjoy a good dark academia novel, this one focused too much on scripture to be interesting to me. It slams you right in the face from the first chapters . Being raised in the Southern Bible belt, and attending a small religious college, I've had my fill of twisted scripture. This was a definite turn-off and I did not attempt to read further, despite the intriguing description and the author's pleas in the Preface to please stay with it.
Just not my thing.
You should make it clear in the book description that there is heavy emphasis on the King James bible and heavy religious undertones. And even the title is misleading with AI being in caps. If it is about the island of Ai, then it should be "Ai: The Opening"

This book was a dnf for me. I didn’t feel the description of the book was very accurate. At no point the book description does it discuss that the novel takes place at a Christian school and that utilizing the 1611 King James Bible. The author notes in chapter zero some grammatical changes the reader may see in the text due to the fictional school using this version. It did take a second to adjust to reading but once I got used to it I found it very easy to still understand what was taking place.
My dnf has to do with one, I believe the focus of religion and how it is core to the story should have been mentioned in the book description, allowing those with religious trauma or religious preferences to skip and two, I struggled with writing style and I had a hard time connecting with the characters. The writing style matches what you’d expect reading about a school reading old King James text and I think that maybe be why I struggled to connect with the text. It felt like I was having a discussion with my old teachers from growing up religious.
Ultimately, the actual storyline I believe has great opportunity and I believe is going to offer the reader a wild ride. It wasn’t for me but I can see a lot of people it would be for…
