Book #2 in The Anderson Chronicles. The books can be read as stand alones and enjoyed. While not a cozy mystery, neither are they thrillers. Book #2 does contain some darker themes than Book #1. Sheriff Peter Elliot and his cast of friends, family and deputies are facing some tough questions when a young woman goes missing odd Main Street in Anderson, Montana. While researching open cases of missing women, a pattern of transient women disappearing comes to light. With few clues, frustration mounts.
Kit Karson weaves several supporting arcs throughout each book. Sheriff Elliot leads each investigation while juggling the many small crimes that pop up in a small town that is famous for tourist traffic year round. Readers are given small glimpses into the lives of Anderson's citizens that give the stories depth and keep readers interested in how the stories play out. So far, Karson's series has been a 5 star read for me.

Innocence Slain is the 2nd book in The Anderson Chronicles by Kit Karson. It is quite amazing how quickly I have been drawn into this series. This book started out with a skunk on the loose in the government building, which I got a good laugh out of. But swiftly change directions into more of the suspenseful part of the book. A young woman is missing, and the Sheriff and his deputies are all searching for clues. I think Birdie will be an welcome addition to the series. I would suggest this book to others.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher, and I am leaving my review voluntarily.

The hilarity of a skunk on the loose in the sheriff’s office soon gives way to the seriousness of a missing person case. While facts are being gathered, the reader gets insight into Sheriff Peter Elliot’s personal background and the hiring of a new recruit before seguing into a darker, more intense kidnapping situation.
I loved not knowing which direction the story was going to take and which characters to trust. Despite this tension, Karson keeps a lid on the violence and finds plenty of other ways to keep her readers’ pulse elevated. She maintains a perfect balance between dialogue, twists and pacing.
I won’t be able to look at a hedgehog quite the same way again.
I was gifted this copy by the publisher through NetGalley and was under no obligation to provide a review.
