Ooof when this said slow burn, it really wasn’t joking! This book had me on the edge of my seat because of the tension! The epilogue was so fun too. Enjoyed this book more than I had previously though.

I'm very conflicted about this book - don't get me wrong I enjoyed it, and by the time the action and flirtation heated up, I was unable to put it down.

But it runs along the exact same time line as If The Ring Fits, so if you have read the previous book in the series (which I did only a few weeks ago so it was still fresh in my mind), then you know exactly who will end up with you (as it was revealed in the previous book), and other bits with the friendship groups, are all things I have already read from one perspective, so didn't' really need to see it again.

It's one of those devices that authors use occasionally in series that always bugs me and I'm just not keen on.

That doesn't make the book any less great, just made it harder for me to totally enjoy it as much as I normally enjoy a Camilla Isley novel. I feel like you need to have read at least the previous book to fully understand all the references to Rowena, so it probably can't stand alone, but equally had I skipped the middle book I would have possibly enjoyed it more.

Hence I'm totally torn.

It's a very slow build of the romantic tension between Hunter and Dylan. Hunter's dates to keep her mind off the fact she is now living with the guy she has been secretly in love with for over 10 years, are hilariously bad.

Dylan's relationship with Olivia is hard to read, I just didn't take to her, and felt for him a lot, especially once he realises he isn't as into it as he should be. But some of his dilemmas really showed him as a truly lovely guy.

I love the characters, I especially loved the final quarter of the book, and there are many many moments to laugh at, as Dylan and Hunter get used to living in the same apartment, with some memorable scenes.

On the whole I really did enjoy the book.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

Best friend’s brother, forced proximity, and slow burn (a little too slow for me). Technically this is book 3 in a series, which I did NOT know beforehand (it was not in the description), so it can be read as a standalone, but I would have preferred to read the previous books so I could better understand the side characters and all the dynamics going on. Hunter is the last of her friend group to pair up and is feeling alone. She thinks she’s finally getting her chance with her long time crush, who is now her new roommate. But things aren’t as great as she had hoped. I definitely felt sorry for the girl. It can’t be easy watching the guy you’ve liked for years dating someone who you think is perfect. I wasn’t the biggest fan of Dylan. Some of his behaviors were off putting and he seemed a bit of a pushover when it came to his girlfriend. Sure, I’ll make out with you even though I don’t really have feelings for you and I’ll let you keep calling the shots, and put off having a real conversation.
I have only read one book by this author before this one, and I enjoyed it so I wanted to read another. I was in for a surprise when some major language popped up at the beginning of chapter 2. That was the biggest disappointment for me. The previous book didn’t have anything so it was definitely a surprise to read so many. The book is closed door, so nothing explicit on page, but it had more content than the other book I read as well. I wish books could have ratings like tv/movies so I know what to expect.

"𝑰 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒏𝒂 𝒃𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒈𝒂𝒎𝒆."

Hunter has been secretly in love with her best friend’s brother, Dylan, for as long as she can remember; though to him, she’s barely even a blip on the radar. She’s not just stuck in the friend zone; she’s somewhere off to the side, friend-zone adjacent. But everything is about to change. When Dylan moves into her spare room, promoting her from casual acquaintance to roommate, Hunter wonders: could this finally be the moment he truly notices her?

What starts as a difficult arrangement soon spirals into chaotic, hilarious, and unexpectedly tender moments as the two navigate close quarters and growing chemistry.

I enjoyed this story! I really like the roommates-to-lovers trope, and The Roommate Experiment had a lot of the cozy, chaotic charm I was hoping for. The dialogues were witty and humorous, and there were a few moments where I even laughed out loud. The humor felt natural most of the time and worked well with the chemistry between the characters.

This book is written in dual POV, which I love, and I especially enjoyed the FMC’s perspective the most. She was sarcastic, witty and smart. Though at times her inner thoughts were a bit repeatative, but it was good!

The only thing that kept this from being a perfect read for me was a certain plot point, without giving spoilers, I’ll just say that there was a third party invoked and I'm not a fan of that situation in my romances. It took away a tiny bit of the magic for me. Other than that, it was such a great read!

My initial rating is 3.75, rounding up to 4 in Goodreads.

I’ve liked some of Camilla Isley's previous books, but this one just didn’t quite land for me. On paper, The Roommate Experiment had everything I usually go for: the pining, the friends-to-lovers energy, the “brother’s best friend” trope (always a good time). I love that slow burn feeling of someone finally being seen – but somehow, the spark just wasn’t there.

Hunter, the FMC, does her best to get noticed by Dylan – her new roommate and lifelong crush – and I genuinely rooted for her at first. But it all felt a little too easy. As soon as she pulls out the tiny shorts, Dylan suddenly starts seeing her differently, and from that point on, I missed the tension and emotional build-up I usually crave in these stories. Dylan’s not a bad guy – just a sweet, hot and slightly oblivious one – but I never really bought into their connection.

The writing, the plot, even the HEA… everything felt a bit flat. Like all the right ingredients were there, but they didn’t quite come together the way I’d hoped.

Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC!

I love a good Rom com and this was a fun and light read. It was predictable but overall put a smile on my face. Perfect when you want a bit of comfort.

Thank you to Boldwood Books and NetGalley for the ARC of The Roommate Experiment in exchange for an honest review.

I could not have been more excited to get my hands on this book! Camilla Isley was easily one of my favorite authors to grace us with her presence in 2024 and I absolutely adored the first two books in this series. I devoured them with lightning speed, and the third installment was certainly no different. I was overjoyed that Dylan and Hunter finally got their moment, as Hunters crush had been teased since book 1. If you are looking for a spell binding slow burn (and by slow burn I MEAN slow burn) romance, then look no further! I hit the 50% mark and was absolutely on the edge of my seat waiting for Dylan to wake up and claim what was right in front of him.

Throughout the novel it was so endearing to watch Dylan and Hunter grow their relationship organically and let me tell you, it was well worth the wait once their worlds finally collide. I also really appreciated the epilogue wrap up, as this is likely the last book in the series (unless Camilla surprises the pants off of us and somehow builds in another one-but realistically I don’t see that happening). Everything about the relationship that exists between Dylan and Hunter is so sweet and endearing, which is why I fell in love with this series. In reading every book, you can’t help but fall in love with the characters and kick your feet in the air like a teenage girl as their love stories unfold in such fun way. I know there will be those that complain that there wasn’t enough action in this book, or that it was slow moving, or Dylan’s character may have annoyed them at times, but I think all of those things are what made the book perfect in its own way. Everything happened just as it should in its own time and I enjoyed every bit of it. Am I sad that this storyline is likely over? Of course I am! But let me tell you, I’m so incredibly glad it happened in the first place. I cannot wait to see what Camilla cooks up next for us because I will be first in line to read it!

I am loving Camilla Isley’s The Roommate Experiment! Chapter one had me laughing out loud—Hunter’s inner monologue is hilarious! I liked it so much I read it twice 😊The chemistry between Hunter and Dylan is electric, and the forced proximity trope is perfectly executed. As always, Camilla Isley delivers a perfect blend of humor and relatable emotions. I wish there was another member of the group so I could look forward to another story in this collection! This book is hands down my favorite in the Funny Feelings series. If you're a fan of witty banter and swoon-worthy romance, this one’s a must-read!
Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and the talented Camilla Isley for this very entertaining read!

The Roommate Experiment is a dual POV forced proximity contemporary romance. Hunter has had a crush on her best friend’s brother, Dylan, for over a decade. When he moves in to the apartment, Hunter hopes he’ll start to see her as more than his little sister’s friend. It’s the third book in a series about a trio of friends.

Overall, the book didn’t really work for me. The romance genre has a lot of tropes and familiar storylines and, to an extent, that can be satisfying, but I thought the dialogue sounded unnatural and there were a lot of cliches in the writing. I didn’t dislike the main characters, but I didn’t really feel fully invested in their love story. However, without any spoilers, there was one aspect about the conclusion that I appreciated.

The last book was a bit of a let down so I was cautious going in but I loved this. It was so funny so see him try to break up with his girlfriend and fail every time. I figured something was up with it and the reveal was hilarious. Seeing them try to seduce each other was a lot of fun.

I received an arc through netgalley.

I read This Is Not A Holiday Romance this past December and loved it, so I was thrilled to be able to read an early copy of The Roommate Experiment. I did not realize that these books were part of a series - the Funny Feelings series - before I started reading this one, so I have not yet read If The Ring Fits, but will be as soon as I can (for me, not having read If the Ring Fits didn't impact this story).

The Book:
If you've read either of the other books in the Funny Feelings series, this one focuses on Hunter & Dylan.

Hunter has had a secret crush on her best friend's brother, Dylan, forever and starts daydreaming about them falling in love when Dylan moves in with her. But, Dylan drops a bomb - He's been seeing someone.
Once living with Hunter, Dylan can't help but see her in another way - But he can't have feelings for his little sisters best friend - can he?

Told in dual-POV between Hunter & Dylan, the story follows them on bad dates (for Hunter), failed attempts at a breakup (Dylan), forced proximity, and a seduction war.

My Thoughts:
A perfect, light, funny, closed-door rom-com. I enjoyed seeing characters from This Is Not a Holiday Romance and recognizing Hunter & Dylan and I enjoyed so many fun moments in this book. I felt good inside this story and it was a really nice "escape".

It's a feel good romance you can read while on the go. I won't say I'm addicted but it's cute to get you by.
I feel like the FMC was too obsessed from the beginning. Like calm the hell down. You don't need to have a freak out everytime you see him with his girlfriend. There was tension but it left me somewhat unfulfilled.
All in all, this book is something you can read for fun and enjoy it along the way. Will recommend for a good time.

I can't believe I've only read one other book by Camilla, because I really enjoy her books! This was an easy read that quickly pulled me in. My only issue is that the relationship development was a slow burn. The characters finally got together in the last 10% of the book, and I wish it had happened sooner so I could have enjoyed more of their story as a couple.

I loved all the characters, even the dramatic Olivia!

I'm adding the rest of Camilla's books to my Goodreads TBR list!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

This book was exactly what I needed; a fun, feel-good, slow-burn romance with just the right mix of humour and heart. The Roommate Experiment was such a delight from beginning to end, and I found myself smiling through so many scenes!

The set-up is classic rom-com gold: one secret crush, one spare bed, and two people who are clearly meant to be. I loved the forced proximity trope here, it felt playful and organic, not overly dramatic. Watching the relationship grow from roommates to something more was satisfying in the best way.

The female lead was relatable, grounded, and had this quiet charm that made me root for her right away. She’s smart, emotionally layered, and just the kind of heroine you’d want as your best friend. And the male lead? Absolute softie. Charming, supportive, and surprisingly vulnerable at times, he was the perfect match for her without ever overshadowing her.

The chemistry was there from the start, but it’s the emotional connection that really carried the story for me. Their shared moments, funny, awkward, and heartfelt were so well written, and the pacing kept me hooked.

Also, shout-out to the background characters who added that touch of chaos and warmth and it made everything feel even more real and engaging.

If you love a sweet romantic comedy with flirty banter, a little pining, and a satisfying happy ending, The Roommate Experiment should be at the top of your list. It’s one of those books that makes you want to hug it when you’re done.

The Roommate Experiment is a funny, heartfelt, and occasionally frustrating story of long-time unrequited love colliding with unexpected proximity. Hunter has been in love with Dylan—her best friend’s brother—for over a decade, despite being practically invisible to him. When he moves in as her new roommate, it feels like fate… until she learns he’s already seeing someone.

Told in dual POVs, the story balances pining and awkwardness with moments of warmth and levity. Hunter’s voice is endearing—quirky, messy, and painfully relatable. Her inner monologue during Dylan-in-a-towel moments? Comedy gold. Dylan, on the other hand, takes longer to warm up. His indecisiveness and lack of action can be frustrating, especially during key turning points.

The writing is breezy and accessible, and the series’ interconnected nature adds charm—especially for those already invested in Rowena and Adrian’s story. The revisited scenes are a clever touch. However, some pacing issues and the fade-to-black intimacy might leave readers wanting a bit more payoff, especially after such a long build-up.

What stands out is the layered inclusion of heavier themes like dyslexia and endometriosis. Isley weaves them in without bogging down the light tone, giving the story more emotional depth without losing the rom-com feel.

The Roommate Experiment is a feel-good slow-burn with enough humor, tension, and emotional honesty to satisfy fans of the genre—even if it doesn’t quite hit the same highs as earlier books in the series. 4stars

This book made me feel like a teenager, remembering crushes and remembering dreaming about them.
I really enjoyed the book. This was my first book from the author and I am very happy to say that I enjoyed Camilla’s writing.
I found that she always chore the perfect timing of when to change the POV of hunter and dylan. Loved the lightness and also comical touches in the writing.

Thank you Boldwood Books for this ARC! This is a sweet little rom-com between two roommates. One who’s been pinning after the other for as long as she can remember. I really loved the last 100 pages of Hunter and Dylan playing games with one another to get the other to notice them. I wish we could have seen more of that fun relationship throughout more of the book. I think I wanted more of a build up when they finally got together though. Loved all characters and other relationships throughout the book, makes me want to pick up her first two books to see how those relationships formed.

Hunter has had a crush on her best friend’s older brother, Dylan, for years, but he’s never really seen her. When he temporarily moves into her spare room, Hunter hopes proximity might finally turn his attention her way. What follows is a very slow burn story, awkward moments, and tender realizations. Watching the walls slowly come down is one of the strengths of this book. Hunter is relatable and easy to root for, with her passion for science and her inner dialogue that blends vulnerability and wit. Dylan, meanwhile, is charming in his own right, perhaps a little too superficial.
While I found the book very fluent to read, I somewhat disliked the way of thinking of both characters who, in my opinion, lack depth. I understand that this is meant to be a simple romantic comedy but I admit that at times I found it very difficult to get to the end of the novel.

Want a good laugh?, A throw-your-hand-on-your-face,
“my goodness, do it already!” kind of story?
Then this one’s got you.

The setup: She’s had a crush on him forever, he’s her childhood crush and her best friend’s brother. So when a roommate situation puts them under the same roof? Oh, the hope! The potential! The slow-motion rom-com dreams! …and then boom-hope crushed.
Turns out he’s got a girlfriend.

But even with that unexpected twist, the story delivers some solid entertainment. The back-and-forth between the leads is full of awkward run-ins, and genuine, fun banters,

You know how every book always has the perfect man that we fall for?
Well this one doesn't. But do we still fall for him? Of course we do.

He’s messy, complicated, and always the people pleaser. And through this we learn a bit more on what goes on in the minds of people pleasers with always putting others first.

I give it a solid 4 stars, If you're in the mood for something funny and a little chaotic,
This one's worth a shot.

Thanks Netgalley and publisher for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review,
I actually didn't know this was a sequel until i finished it, so I'm looking forward to reading the 2 previous ones.
