JUL 2018: My apologies for the extreme delay. I wasn't going to post this but after my friend's efforts to recover as much data as possible from failed hard drive, I figured that something was better than nothing.
I read & reviewed ‘The Warlord’s Wife’ prior to its release date but I *think* that I delayed posting due to low rating. Below is most of my review, re-constructed from recovered data. Given extreme delay & my personal so-so experience, review will not be posted on Amazon.

A promising start by debut author Sandra Lake. I was excited to try a new author of medieval romance but unfortunately, The Warlord’s Wife fell a bit short/flat for me. Turned out to be what I call a ‘two steps forward, one step back’ kind of read [e.g., nonsensical to call a child ‘bastard’ in one sentence, and then in next sentence, ignore disowning for almost a decade & assert right to claim as kin]. Despite use of plethora of tropes, storyline had potential but execution failed to live up to its potential, resulting in a predictable and lackluster read.
My primary issues/reasons for disappointing read:
• romance threadbare & developed only superficially,
• certain internal monologues OTT and/or overly-dramatic,
• too many instances of fanciful/loosey-goosey writing, resulting in random ‘huh?’ or ‘WTF?’ moments, and
• several side plots/key threads unsupported or nonsensical so to weaken my suspension of disbelief, jarred me from reading enjoyment, and/or undermined story-building (e.g., timing issues re: Klara at Tronscar; underhanded attempts flimsy/stupid; nonsensical to place Magnus’s inattention to feelings for Lida when situation/issues yrs in making)
Also, minor technical issue re: paragraph structuring (e.g., combo dialogue w/ another character’s reaction) sometimes made for less than smooth reading.

Didn't connect with the story. Started it twice, the first time I thought it was not the moment to read it, not sadly, the story isnt for me.
