This was my first book in the series and I liked it enough to back read.
Freddie and Grace are pretty amazing together and their surprise visit to America ends up with more issues than they expected. Graces father has bankrupted his estates, her sister is unhappy in her marriage and her husband is found murdered, there is a time sensitive inheritance that the sisters have to clarinet across the ocean in Scotland, while trying to not get murdered. So lots of chaos, but the storyline comes together well, it's entertaining and fast paced.

My favorite of the series so far. I absolutely loved it. Every page had something interesting and the entire story flowed so well. It never got boring and there was always a hint of…What will happened next? How will it actually end for everyone? It was fun, lighthearted, heavy, emotional, conflicting, beautiful, romantic, suspenseful, and faith-filled. What more could you want?

The Highland Heist is a story about love, mystery and adventure.
The love story is sweet and fun. The mystery is good, but a bit detailed and slow. The whole book is about the Highland, but only the last 30% takes place in Scotland. The characters are interesting and well developed. The book gets harder to put down as you get involved in the characters and story.
Grace and Frederick and their relationship is about their Christian walk both past and present. I enjoyed this book and it was the first that I have read in the series. The story worked as a stand alone book but I get the impression that those that started at book 1 are very attached to the main characters.

This book is witty, mystery filled and a fun read. I enjoyed following Grace and Frederick on their latest journey. Their marriage seems to be rock solid which a family member is jealous of. Oh yes there is that green eyed monster running throughout the story which fuels deceit, greed and anger.
I liked how Frederick wanted to surprise Grace with a trip before venturing off on their honeymoon. Things don’t go well when they walk into a murder scene featuring Grace’s sister. Lillias is not very friendly even though Grace wants to help her sister clear her name. Who killed Lillias’s husband?
The mystery grows deeper when the sisters are summoned to Scotland to claim an inheritance. They both must be there there for this to take place, but there is a little hiccup. With unique detective skills Grace and Frederick race to try to clear Lillias name while trying to stay out of danger.
The author delivers a clever mystery which had me trying to read faster. I like how Grace and Frederick embrace their new marriage with faith and trust. A beautiful story that captures the meaning of family. With humor along the way this book paves the way to a delightful look at embracing redemption and new relationships.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.

Anytime I get to join Frederick and Grace on another adventure, I know it will be an excellent read! I love spunky Grace and adorable Frederick, and getting a married couple as a main focus in series is unique and totally wonderful! I love seeing their romance progress— as well as their sleuthing skills! This mystery is just as adventurous, page-turning, and surprising as the ones before it! And from Edwardian small-town Virginia to the Scottish Highlands, this story has beautiful settings and interesting characters to add flavor to the mystery! Five stars as always for any Freddie and Grace Mystery, and I look forward to more!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher, and a positive review was not required. I really truly loved it!

This book is quite the adventure! I absolutely love this series. Grace and Frederick are two of my favorite detectives. Grace’s love for fiction is still my favorite thing about her and very enduring. I just adore her. Her grace and kindness is infectious. I love how Grace relates to others so well, even if it involves comparing them to her favorites in fiction.
This time the mystery takes them to Grace’s home where she finds things are quite different than when her and Frederick left for their honeymoon trip. Going to Lillias, Grace’s sister, Grace and Frederick stumble on the murder of Lillias’s husband Tony.
There are so many twists and turns that make the story unputdownable. The people Grace and Frederick trust start to dwindle as an inheritance from Grace’s long-dead mother brings danger and surprises around every corner. Along with the danger and intrigue is heart, humor, faith building trials, and romance. And many exciting twists and turns. I especially loved Zahra and how she helps Grace and Frederick in her quiet ways.
I really hope there are more books in this wonderful series.
I received a NetGalley link from the publisher and #celebratelit for tour purposes. All views are my own.

Oh, my, what a fantastic adventure! Another delightful Freddie & Grace mystery, I loved every bit of it, like all the others as well on this series. This time Freddie is surprising Grace with a trip back home but things get a little bit out of proportion when they’re thrown in the midst of a murder, with Grace’s sister involved in it. And even though we started in America the lovely couple needs to travel to beautiful Scotland to claim an inheritance. Besides the heap of trouble they encountered amongst Grace’s family the mystery continues as they arrive at Mosslea castle, and they’re running out of time to claim what’s theirs. If you’ve enjoyed the other Freddie and Grace mysteries, you won’t want to miss this one either.
All the things I loved:
- The literary references
- The characters acknowledging God in their lives and trusting in Him for everything that came their way, embracing God’s will,
- Zahra
- Grace’s mother, she ADORED gardens, I can relate to that
- The secret passages; the peepholes; the kelpies, selkies, fairies, wulvers.
- The Loch Ness Monster
- The escaping scene… Outstanding!
Quotes I loved…
“Only God has the power to protect us fully.”
“Love truly was such an enormous feeling. And if what she felt was the mere human side of it, how very incalculable God’s love must be.”
“…but there’s nothing I can do about it at the moment except pray.”
“If the world is shifting beneath our feet, dear Frederick, then we must trust in the One who holds the whole world all the more.”
“If their marriage had taught him anything, it was that his strength had limits. And he had to trust the people he loved most to the One who loved them more.”
“Staring at one’s own heart and seeing the brokenness within has a tendency to turn a willing man or woman in the right direction.”

"Travel in Scotland is unfamiliar territory for me, particularly the Highlands. Remote areas tend to keep their own schedules."
When Frederick decided to surprise his wife with a trip to America, he thought the trip would involve family connection. And while that proved to be true in an interesting way, they are immediately faced with an unexpected disaster. Grace is thrilled to have another mystery to solve, but Freddie simply wants to keep his curious wife safe. Can they find the answers that they are seeking?
Much of this book is set near Richmond, but the entourage eventually does arrive in Scotland. As with all of the books in this series, the characters are complex and memorable, the romance is sweet and even in the midst of the suspense, certain parts are still funny. The storyline is fascinating and enjoyable. How the storyline wrapped up was well-written, but I definitely do not want to give too much away.
I bookmarked several pages as Grace has a delightful perspective. She brings joy and optimism to the page. This book helps to uncover more about her family and why certain relationships are complicated. I really enjoyed this book!
I was provided with a copy of this book for a tour. I wanted to read and review it. All opinions are my own.

It’s always a treat to read a Freddie and Grace mystery. This time the sleuthing pair find themselves in quite the predicament (what’s new?) in trying to prove her sister’s innocence. There is also a transcontinental trip to Scotland where the girls must find a missing will located somewhere inside an ancestral castle to claim their inheritance. With villains, stories of ghosts, and danger lurking, I wanted to read as quickly as I could to see what would happen next. I loved the humor throughout the story and the love Freddie and Grace showed to each other. I was so happy when Freddie defended Grace to her sister and found myself saying, “That’s right, Freddie, you tell her!”
I highly recommend reading this historical mystery as well as the others in the series. While it can be read as a standalone, I’d begin with the first book because once you start you won’t want to stop reading all of them.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit. and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

I thoroughly enjoyed this fourth rousing adventure with Freddie and Grace, my favorite fictional sleuthing couple! I fell in love with Zahra, their adopted daughter and love the way Freddie and Grace are navigating parenthood! This journey takes them to Virginia and across the ocean to Scotland where they become embroiled in mystery and intrigue involving Grace's family and a Scottish castle inheritance. Perfectly placed twists and revelations--one of which is of major proportions--kept me reading expectantly. I loved the laugh-out-loud moments and engaging banter. The married romance is utterly delightful. I appreciate how their shared experiences have deepened their spiritual connection and reliance on God. This is one of my favorite reads this year! I highly recommend the book and the series!
I read an early copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Romance, Mystery, Suspense, period; Series, but stand alone read
Grace and Freddie are in the states for a surprise for Grace as part of their Honeymoon trip before heading back to Freddie's ancestral home.
Lillias, Grace's sister is accused of murdering her husband, but thankfully he isn't dead. Subterfuge in the US, leads to more overseas, and a wide cast of characters and multiple settings. Grace's determined, and unflinching work to help clear her sister of wrongdoing, and find the mystery abroad that brings them back overseas for an inheritance, without much help from her sister and her interference made for a good foil and contrast for Grace's steady caring heart. Freddie's unwavering support, even as he worries for Grace's safety, but working with her and communicating, helped set some of the unraveling of this mystery.
The house was the perfect mysterious setting with hidden rooms and clues. Grace and Freddie kept their calm in the face of criticisms and unwilling people involved with the inheritance and property.
Loved all the small moments, P. Basham gets people and their emotions and motivations. Grace and Freddie are so supportive of each other, and the faith moments come about naturally, and help their character development in meaningful ways.
I haven't read the other books in this series, but will be reading them to see the other mysteries and see Grace and Freddie in action again. Definitely a nice escape and keeps you wanting more!

Award-winning author Pepper Basham returns with the fourth novel in the Freddie and Grace Mystery series where mystery, romance, and humor abound.
In The Highland Heist, Frederick and Grace Percy return for a surprise visit to her family in America before returning to Frederick’s estate in the UK. But they are the ones who are surprised when they discover that her family home has been sold, Grace’s sister is a murder suspect, and the sisters have very little time left to claim a Scottish castle they inherited from their mother. Can they clear her sister’s name, and solve the mystery of who is trying to prevent them from claiming their inheritance?
Basham creates the right blend of a light-hearted, clean romance, with faith elements, a touch of humor, and a bit of mystery. It is a delight to see Grace and Freddie settle into their marriage and parenthood (they are adopting a young girl), while the reader gets to travel the world with them from America to the Scottish Highlands. Basham excels in storytelling, and the reader is engaged from the first page to the last.
Readers will encounter twists and characters with sinister motives as they join Freddie and Grace on this Scottish adventure. While it can be read independently, readers are encouraged to read Mistletoe Countess, The Cairo Curse, and The Juliet Code to enjoy the Percys’ relationship and adventures from the beginning. Hopefully we will continue to see more Freddie and Grace Mysteries, especially as they settle into domestic life at Havensbrooke Hall!
Recommended for adult collections in public libraries. Fans of Dorothy Gillman's Mrs. Polifax series, and Elizabeth Peters' Amelia Peabody series will enjoy this mystery series!

“If the world is shifting beneath our feet, dear Frederick, then we must trust in the one who holds the whole world all the more.”
Freddie and Grace are back! And in as fine a form as ever, solving mysteries with optimism, unusual advice sources, and humor. This adventure finds the young recently married sleuthing couple involved in a 1914 mystery that spans both sides of the Atlantic.
This one hits particularly close to home as it involves Grace’s family of origin. Not only do we see her conniving, condescending sister resurface, but Lillias is fingered as the guilty party in a murder and the evidence is stacked against her. While Freddie and Grace do everything in their power to help her, their efforts are impugned. “I admire your determination, Lady Astley, but I must caution you—this isn’t some sort of game. Real-life investigations require precision and restraint, not whimsy.” - Johnson
Lillias’ jealousy over Grace’s social status and supposed monetary worth rears its ugly head, until Lillias not only rails at Grace, but attempts to convince Frederick he married the wrong sister. I love Freddy for his ready defense of Grace, despite her social ineptness:
“she is not only a willing student to learn new things, but her kindness has overcome many of the social obstacles placed before her. You not only dismiss her advice but underestimate her intelligence and strength of character—qualities I value deeply.”
Can the two, together with their recently adopted daughter from Egypt, overcome their past familial insecurities, and find rest in their love for each other and the Lord? Nevermind they also have a deadline to meet in a drafty Scottish castle, or they will lose an inheritance that Grace’s one loving family member has left for her and her sister. Ghosts, gossipy servants, spies, Loch Ness, and unexpected danger find Grace and Freddie as they finally near their goal.
I particularly loved the way that we are shown two different marriages, both by choices characters made. As the characters continue to make life choices, one marriage flourishes, while the other shrivels. A lot of life lessons there!
Little Zahra, wise beyond her years, but so insecure in her new parents’ love, is so easy to love. And Freddie and Grace are just the parents she needs!
Basham includes a litany of literary references, not the least of which are references to the works of Edgar Allan Poe, a big nod to Basham’s writing friend, Jaime Jo Wright. How fun!
One caveat: this book is definitely part of a series, book 4 of A Freddie and Grace Mystery, and reads much better when read in that order.
I received a copy of the book from Celebrate Lit via NetGalley. I also bought my own copy. No positive review was required, and all opinions are my own.
Notable Quotables:
“If their marriage had taught him anything, it was that his strength had limits. And he had to trust the people he loved most to the one who loved them more.”- Frederick
“Money might not buy happiness, but it certainly bought tolerance.”
“Love truly was such an enormous feeling. And if what she felt was the mere human side of it, how very incalculable God’s love must be. It really should lead her to much less worry, shouldn’t it? Even about all the current difficulties and hurts swirling around them.”- Grace
“‘You made your choices, and I had to make mine for the good of our family.’ And thanks be to God, He’d redeemed the choice and made it so much better than Grace had ever dreamed.”- Grace
“Adopted means Frederick and I are your new parents,” Grace said gently. “It means we’ll care for you whether you’re good or bad, whether you need us a little or a lot. It means you’ll always have a home here, and more importantly”—she placed a hand over her heart—”you’ll always have a place in here. Only you can fill it.” -Grace

I have so enjoyed the journey with Grace and Freddie! Grace is such a delight with her passion for sleuthing. The mystery in this book had some twists I didn’t anticipate and it kept me wanting to read! It was also fun to get to know Grace’s family a bit better in this book! I love Pepper Basham’s writing style and the way she makes the characters come alive. I highly recommend the entire series!
I read an advanced copy of the book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I think it was the best of the series so far. Grace and Freddie have yet another mystery to solve, this time in Scotland. Castles, murder, family secrets, this books has it all. The book sucked me in from the very beginning and I couldn't wait to see how it ended. Thank you so much to the publisher for a copy. I cant wait for the next one.

I really enjoyed this latest installment in the Freddie & Grace mysteries. This married couple reminds me a lot of Nick and Nora of the Thin Man series. The repartee in the relationship between the two of them brings so much fun to the mysteries. Add in extended family dynamics and a transatlantic mystery to solve, and this book was plain fun. I highly recommend it for those who loved the Downton Abbey time period with mystery and romance.

I just love Grace and Freddie and have been so looking forward to this book. I was also interested in catching up with Grace's sister. This story was certainly not boring with lots of twists and turns. I just adore seeing Grace and Freddie's relationship continue to grow. I'm looking forward to more in this series!

The Highland Heist is the fourth installment from the Fredrick & Grace Mystery series by one of my favorite authors, Pepper Basham. I enjoyed the previous three books from the series and I believe this one is by far my favorite of the four. It was great catching up with Freddie and Grace and seeing what adventures awaits them. They are once again teaming up to solve a mystery. I
The Highland Heist will be getting a very well deserved five plus stars from me. I highly recommend it for readers who love to read clean historical mystery. I am hoping this is not the end of the Fredrick & Grace Mystery series and Pepper Basham plans a fifth addition to it.
I received a paperback copy of Pepper Basham's The Highland Heist from the publisher, but was not required to write a positive review. This review is one hundred percent my own honest opinion.

Another delightful romp with plenty of danger and romance for Freddie and Grace. I absolutely adore Ms. Basham's whimsical humor, in describing Grace's love of anything related to solving a case, regardless of the danger that may come her way. Throughout the series, Grace's character is slowly maturing, emerging into a woman who is just now realizing her own strengths. Freddie and Grace are one of my favorite detective duos and their witty banter will bring a smile to reader's faces.
The Highland Heist takes our newlyweds to Grace's home in America and an unexpected detour to Scotland. As always, danger seems to follow Grace. With a mystery that hits close to home, she finds that many memories of her childhood relationship with her sister are challenged.
On first observation, this is a lighthearted mystery full of humor, but the story has many layers. Underneath the humor is a story of rebuilding relationships with those they hold dear.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher. I was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.

The Highland Heist is the fourth installment in the Freddie & Grace Mystery series, and my very first Pepper Basham novel—certainly not my last! This delightful blend of humor, heart, mystery, and romance swept me away from the first page.
The story opens as Lord Astley (Freddie), Lady Astley (Grace), Zahra, and Miss Cox journey to America to visit Grace’s relatives. From there, the plot unravels with clever twists, endearing moments, and a mystery that kept me intrigued until the very end.
What truly stood out to me was the beautiful relationship between Freddie and Grace. I adored the way Freddie continually encouraged Grace to be fully herself—fierce, witty, and wonderfully curious. His unwavering defense of her was both touching and admirable. Grace’s intelligence and love for solving mysteries made her a standout heroine, and her enthusiasm was absolutely contagious.
The relationship between Grace and her sister Lilias was another powerful thread in the story. Their dynamic—so stark in contrast, almost night and day—was explored with emotional depth and subtle transformation. Watching Grace’s arc unfold, especially as she begins to see herself through the lens of truth rather than the distorted reflection of her past or her sister’s shadow, was deeply moving. Freddie’s quiet support in that transformation was everything.
Pepper Basham has crafted a story that delivers on every front: laugh-out-loud moments, charming characters, sweet romance, and a satisfying mystery. I truly hope this isn’t the last we see of Freddie and Grace—I’m already looking forward to their next adventure.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Barbour Publishing for the complimentary copy. All opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
