I think encouraging young girls to read a daily devotional is wonderful, but I'm confused about the target audience age for this book. I have two granddaughters, ages seven and ten, and there were times I felt the writing was too "old" for the seven-year old and other times it was too "young" for the ten-year old. Most of the topics seemed more suited to a ten-year old, but were presented in a way that was more suited for a seven-year old. When I reached the end of the book, I saw that there were multiple contributors, so maybe that's the reason for the inconsistencies.
Even as an adult (a grandmother!), though, this devotional ministered to my heart. I will say, however, that I found some of the lessons to be repetitive - again, this might have been due to having multiple contributors.
Two concerns I have with the content are as follows:
**I believe the suggestion to "Sneak a special snack to someone who really deserves a treat" is ill-advised.. A child should not be encouraged to be sneaky, i.e., doing something without the knowledge of the parents. Also, it's potentially dangerous for one child to give another a food treat without permission from the adults! What if the child being given the treat has an allergy that the giver is not aware of?!
**There is discussion concerning running away from home, but I didn't feel that there was enough of a warning against doing so.
With the exception of my concerns noted above, I recommend this devotional. I feel that there were sound biblical truths shared in an easy to understand (if occasionally patronizing) manner.
