This historical fantasy set in Seattle during the Prohibition days comes with complex characters, drama, and lots of questions. Eleanora and her mother, Fiona, both have magical fire abilities and have found theater sisters with similar traits. As they fight the rules of Prohibition, theater owners, and the people of Seattle who are afraid of their talents, they also fight to be their true selves. The story is told from Eleanora's and Fiona's perspectives. Fiona begins in Chicago then moves to Seattle with Eleanora. Fiona finds The Milk House where she can safely dance and show her fire dance talents and where she can protect her daughter. Once Fiona gets to perform at The Luminaire and her dance is showcased, it is the beginning of the end. Read to find out what happens to Fiona and how her daughter tries to celebrate her life at the same theater.
I enjoyed the messages of this book: be yourself, look for family and friends that will raise you up, and take care of your inner self. As a fan of historical fiction, this historical fantasy was an entertaining read that makes you think about how we treat others and how we want to be treated. If you are looking for a unique read, this one is for you!

Thank you to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in advance.
This is a different read from what I usually go for when I pick up a book but the synopsis intrigued me.
This is a story of love and acceptance most of all. Acceptance of one's self (flaws and difficulties) and of others. I liked Eleonora's chapters better. I really like Lady, she wss like a mother to her. And then I liked the friendships she made with the other Star Girls and with Miles, who's a great love interest, and he also has a backstory I didn't see coming.
But I liked that Fiona's chapters were added cause I could see from her POV how things that were mentioned on Eleonora's time actually happened for Fiona.
I liked especially the last chapter because of the acceptance part I was mentioning.
