I did mistake this as a collection of Ward's work. That is definitely not the case. It's literary analysis of four of her books, her first three novels and her memoir, and how they fit into the Southern canon. It's really super dense. It's also very good and really interesting.

I was expecting a collection of essays and writings from Jesmyn so was a little suprisised that this ended up being more a critique of her work but not dissapointed. I’ve only read one of Wards’ books but this made me excited to read more of her work and I have so much to look forward to.

A great collection. I heard Ms Ward speak at a book festival last fall and was taken with her, having never heard of her. This collection reinforces my desire to spend more time with her work.
