I think it’s safe to say that I’ve never read a book quite like this one. A kingdom ruled entirely by women? A world where women are gifted with the ability to physically overpower men so they won’t ever have to suffer by the hand of a man again. The entire premise of the book in itself was very unique and well done. I had a good time reading it. The story was immersive and had my attention the whole time. However, I wish the romance was more developed.
I do very much feel that this book will grab everyone’s attention and I recommend picking it up.

Alexa, play Who Runs the World by Beyonce.
What Fury Brings is a romantasy novel set in the kingdom of Amarra, a world where woman are blessed with superior strength and total control. Olerra, our FMC, is the general and poised to take the throne--if she can stave off her power-hungry cousin. The best way to do that? Why, kidnap a prince from your rival kingdom, of course.
I devoured this book. Like, unhealthily fast. Olerra was a wonderful main character. I thought she managed to be a warrior character without falling into the 'stabby, sassy female character' trope that often plague this genre. Her bluntness was so entertaining, and I thought her and Sanos played really well of each other.
Overall, I found it to be a highly enjoyable read. If you were ever obsessed with the Amazons from Greek mythology, I think you would love this book. It was a fresh twist on the romantasy genre, and I wouldn't mind a second book featuring Ydra. And if all that didn't sell you, there's also a penis guillotine.

Absolute Perfection!
Olerra is the General of the Armies of Amarra, a matriarchal society. She is in contention to be the next queen, but in order to win the throne, she must outmatch her cousin. She decides that the way to best her cousin is to steal a prince from the kingdom of Brutus, a patriarchal society. Unfortunately, she steals the wrong prince. One who will bring her country to war.
Tricia Levenseller’s debut adult fantasy novel absolutely knocked it out of the park! She flipped the script of the patriarchy on its head masterfully. The world building and the details in the story were done so well. Watching it through the eyes of a man who is used to living in a patriarchal society was perfection. The characters, their growth, and their understanding of one another unfolded perfectly. This book is one of my top reads of the years so far!

What Fury Brings was such a fantastic read and I loved it even more because it was different from any book I have ever read and it's a standalone story. In this book women were just as if not more powerful than the men which made the story very interesting. They held their own, they took care of their own and the best ones treated everyone as their equals. Everything was not all sunshine and flowers though because there was cruelty, deaths, threats, backstabbing, scheming, secrets and so much more. I don't want to give too much away but I think romance readers that enjoy a bit of suspense will enjoy this story. Olerra wants to become crown princess, but her cousin Glenaerys (Glen) isn't going down without a fight, so Olerra does the one thing she knows Glen won't do. She kidnaps a husband, but not just any husband, she needs a husband that will help improve her status while competing with her cousin. Her prince isn't going down easy and neither is Glenaerys. He challenges her in ways she never expected but they're both keeping secrets and when it's revealed, it will change both of their lives. This story was unexpected in that some of the power and roles were reversed, it was funny, steamy, full of enemies, friends, family and ends with a sweet ending for Olerra and her prince. I hope the author gives us a book with Ydra and Canus characters because I would love to read that story.

Imagine a perfect world where women are the stronger sex—protectors of men, leaders of armies, rulers of empires. They have their own harems, and if they want a husband, they simply kidnap a prince from a rival kingdom. Yes, this girl-powered concept deserves a standing ovation! Tricia Levenseller brings this thrilling, feminist romantasy to life, and it’s absolutely irresistible.
The fierce characterization, the empowering world-building, the sizzling chemistry, the throne-room politics, forbidden love, and high-stakes intrigue—all of it was executed so well. I devoured this book in one sitting.
The story centers on Olerra, the warrior princess of Amara, who is locked in a battle for the throne against her scheming cousin—who is guided by her ruthless, power-hungry mother. Meanwhile, Sanos, heir to the Kingdom of Brutus and the eldest of five brothers, has spent years being abused by his tyrant father, King Atalius. He stays quiet, refusing to rebel for the sake of protecting his mother and younger sister.
To win the throne, Olerra plans to kidnap Prince Andrastus, the second-born son of their greatest enemy. He’s known to be soft, poetic, and more easily manipulated. But her plan backfires when, during a drunken night at a brothel, it’s actually Sanos who ends up being taken in Andrastus’s place.
Waking up in a carriage with Olerra and her best friend Ydra, Sanos immediately begins plotting his escape—terrified that his absence will give his cruel father the chance to hurt the people he loves. He’s determined to resist Olerra’s forced marriage plans, but as the days pass, he begins to see another side of the warrior princess. And as sparks fly, he finds himself drawn to the fierce woman who stole him away. The chemistry is undeniable—but Sanos is hiding a secret that could destroy everything between them. And he’s not the only one—Olerra is also harboring a truth that could hand her enemies the power to destroy her.
Will they be able to find happiness and claim the power they both deserve? Or will they be forced to choose between love and victory, each option carrying its own heartbreak?
Overall: I’m rounding my 4.5 stars up to a solid 5 for the fresh, feminist concept and the red-hot chemistry between Olerra and Sanos. I also definitely wouldn’t say no to a sequel about Ydra—I’d love to return to this girl-powered universe again! I’ve enjoyed Tricia Levenseller’s YA books before, but her adult romantasy work has me hooked. I’m eagerly looking forward to whatever she writes next.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan/Feiwel & Friends for sharing this delightful romantasy with me in exchange for my honest thoughts.
