Merry's nosy landlady Mrs. D'Angelo thinks something fishy is going on with the new neighbors across the street and when she goes missing, Merry has no choice but to get involved. There is mystery, suspense, and plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing! I love the small town setting, the Christmas theme, and the returning cast of wonderful characters.

Merry's landlady , Mabel D'Angelo, is determined to meet the new neighbors but receives no response
when knocking on the door. When Mabel suddenly disappears, Merry finds her in the new neighbor's
house tied up along with a dead female in another room. The connection of the dead female to the
town is revealed when she is identified. What was the female involved in that would cause someone to
kill her?
Enjoyable series and characters.

Any time of year is fun for a visit Rudolph, New York but it is especially delightful to be there in December. This entry in the series is filled with all the familiar characters enjoying the peak shopping season of the year. Inserting itself into the holiday frivolity, come some shady characters and a murder most foul. Chock full of plausible red herrings, this one keeps you guessing until almost the last page.

Mistletoe with a side of murder and mince tarts

O, Deadly Night is the 8th entry in the Year-Round Christmas Mystery series. Vicky Delany infuses the story with the spirit, sounds and scents of Christmas while delivering a suspenseful whodunit.

Rudolph, NT, is bustling with tourists enjoying the Christmas season in America’s favourite Christmas town. A new neighbour has moved in across the street from Merry Wilkinson’s home. Merry’s landlady, the town gossip Mabel D’Angelo, is snooping around to meet the new neighbour. It is Merry’s busiest time of the year, and she doesn’t have time for Mrs. D’Angelo’s conspiracy theories. Until that is, Mrs. D’Angelo disappears. She is missing for a couple of days, when Mabel’s worried friend George, asks for help. During Merry and George’s search for Mabel, they stumble upon a body. Detective Simmonds takes over the investigation, and Merry tries to stay out of it. If only clues wouldn’t keep falling in her lap. Danger lurks in the snowy streets of Rudolph.

I love revisiting the cozy but deadly town of Rudolph. It is like checking in on old friends. Merry’s family and friends are quirky and lovely. Her parents, Noel Wilkinson, the former mayor and town Santa Claus and Aline Steiner, a retired opera diva who always brings drama to the story. Her best friend, Vicky, owns Victoria’s Bake Shoppe and Merry’s boyfriend, Alan Anderson, is a local toymaker. Aside from the many murders, Rudolph sounds like it would be a fun town to live in.

If you love your mistletoe with a side of murder and mince tarts, you will love this book. Cuddle up with a warm drink and a cookie and immerse yourself in a little deadly Christmas!

Thank you to Crooked Lane Books and NetGalley for access to a digital ARC.

Merry Wilkinson lives in Rudolph, New York and owns a gift store that sells Santa-themed items all year round. The town is as Christmasy as it gets, especially this time of year. When Merry is preparing her annual Christmas float, she expects her landlady, Mrs. Mabel D'Angelo, to show up as one of the elves, but she doesn't. When she learns the reason why -- Mrs. D'Angelo, a gossip center, is trying to introduce herself to the new neighbors, but isn't having any luck. As the days go on, Mabel sees that there is something going on across the street, but can't put her finger on it. Merry, used to Mabel and her fancies, blows most of it off. But when Mabel disappears and no one can find her, Merry begins to worry.

When she does find Mabel, it's across the street -- and Merry also finds a dead body. It turns out that the dead person had a connection to the town and several of its residents, including Merry's younger sister, Eve. But does Eve know anything about the murder? As Merry starts to dig deeper, she finds that the dead woman had more than a connection with the town, and her past wasn't pretty. In fact, it was ugly enough that someone wanted her dead...

I love this series, and most of the characters in it (yes, there are some that get on my nerves, just as in real life they would do so); and I especially love Merry's father. He seems unflappable, and remains calm in most, if not all, situations. Unfortunately, at least in this book, her boyfriend Alan appears just as an afterthought, he's in it so little. I hope to see more of him in the next book.

But back to Merry's sleuthing: she's right at home doing what she does best, and we get to see her at work while she's searching for clues. She's even misled at one time, but eventually figures it out, which is important. This is the busiest time of year, and trying to run her business and find a murderer (not that the police detective isn't capable herself) is a lot to handle. Yet she does so, and does it well.

I knew the murderer before Merry did, but then again, I read a lot of mysteries, so that's something. Even so, watching her put the clues together and figure it out herself is worth it, especially watching how her best friend helped her! All in all, this was a great cozy to read, and I enjoyed it immensely. I look forward to the next in the series. Highly recommended,

I was given an advance copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley but this in no way influenced my review.

Who wouldn't love living in a town that celebrates Christmas all year long? That town would be Rudolph, New York, where O, Deadly Night, the 8th book in The Year Christmas mystery series takes place. I love this series and each story is better than the last. A great read for any time of the year.
Thank you #NetGalley and #CrookedLaneBooks for the opportunity to read this wonderful story.

I think there were some interesting seeds sown for Merry and Alan issues, which would be very interesting to pursue! I also thought that there was some interesting work done as to the consequences of being nosy in this one--not especially on brand for this series but I really welcomed it!

Having invited her landlady to be part of her store’s Christmas float in the Santa Claus parade, Merry Wilkinson is concerned when she doesn't turn up. Her worries turn to annoyance but not surprise when she discovers Mrs D’Angelo, font of knowledge of all things newsworthy in Rudolph, New York, was watching the arrival of their new neighbours. The concern returns, however, when Merry realises she hasn't seen her landlady for a few days and neither has anyone else! When a body is discovered nearby things get very serious, very quickly, but it's mid-December in Rudolph and Merry doesn't have time for murder investigations or the arrival of strangers in her street but somehow she still finds herself right in the middle of things.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Crooked Lane Books, but the opinions expressed are my own. Once again, Vicki Delany has successfully mixed an exciting mystery with the family life of the Wilkinson's and the festive preparations in America's Christmas Town. There are recipes included as well, and I enjoyed this very much.

I am a huge fan of Vicki Delany's Sherlock Holmes Bookshop series so when I saw this book available, I was excited to give it a try. I don't usually do this without reading previous books in a series but decided to throw caution to the wind. I'm glad I did! I was immediately drawn in. Love the setting, the theme, and the characters. While I can see where reading previous books would certainly be beneficial, I don't feel it is totally necessary. However, I cannot wait to start with the first book and read them all now. I recommend this series for sure.

Turns out that your reputation is never truly forgotten.

Merry Wilkinson is in the midst of the busy Christmas season at Mrs. Claus' Treasures, so the suspicions of her nosy landlady Mrs. D'Angelo aren't exactly at the top of her priority list. When the suspicions turn deadly however, Merry finds herself caught up in the mysterious goings-on right outside her own home, with people from both Rudolph and other towns seemingly involved.

O, Deadly Night is the latest addition to the charming Year-Round Christmas Mystery series. The imagery of the idyllic town of Rudolph is enough in and of itself to get anyone in the Christmas mood, with added bonus of getting to be with Merry et al yet again. The mystery takes some twists and turns that aren't far-fetched, but rather having the reader think about someone they themselves may have known growing up,

Reading this series is like visiting with a friend; you're immediately into the world of the story and want to know more about these fictitious characters that seem real. I always love the characterization of Mattie, especially when he encounters Detective Simmonds. There is also a lot of room for expansion in the series with a few of the side plots, and I will be the first person wanting to read more.

Thank you to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for the opportunity to read this book for free in exchange for my honest review.

Loved reading this book and series. Looking forward to other books in this series. If you haven't read it yet I highly recommend doing so.

An engaging read by a fairly prolific author. I am not familiar with previous works, but this offering was average to good. I felt the ending was abrupt although it possibly could be a tease for any follow up offerings. Good character development and a strong plot. I didn't guess who the murderer might be until.three quarters of the way into the book. Definitely would recommend giving this author a try.

Best book in the series!

I had just finished reading book #7 in the series and wished I had the next book to continue with. My book wish was granted when it showed up on #netgalley! And this one did not disappoint! Now mind you I'm reading this before Easter (Book 7 is set around Easter if you're looking for something seasonal). And this one is definitely ALL CHRISTMAS! I say preorder and wait for the holiday season to get the Christmas town vibe.

Merry's landlord Mabel D'Angelo is front and center in the novel. We get to learn more about her gossipy landlady and get a bit closer to the woman. This time curiosity nearly kills the cat and Merry finds herself confronting danger closer to home than she would like. Lots of excitement in this one containing kidnapping and killing and danger just across the street! An enjoyable exciting read that I had hard time putting down. Still cozy though. Well written and the Christmas feels are well described. The reader gets to take a step back in between the excitement, and stand with Merry as she takes in all the wonders of Christmas season. Even if it is just a few moments before she's off and saving the day, again. Thank you Vicki Delany for continuing to share the lives of Merry and her family and friends with us. And thank you to #CrookedLaneBooks for publishing this wonderful series.

This was an interesting change of pace for the series with Mabel taking the lead in the action. Small town nosy neighbors plus elusive new neighbors equals mystery and murder. I hope Merry finally fires Jackie at some point. Ugh, so annoying.

What a cute cozy little mystery! Complete with recipes from an unpublished in-universe cookbook. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

I really enjoy Vicki Delaney mysteries. Her Sherlock Holmes Bookshop Mysteries have been so much fun for me. This book ran with a very similar formula - we have our plucky, imperfect but lovable protagonist who owns her own business, her beautiful zany best friend who makes delicious food, our protagonists’ lovable parents, the stalwart boyfriend, and a ton of neighborhood characters. This time, the focus is on Mrs. Deangelo, the neighborhood gossip. Did I mention she was also lovable? That seems to be the through-line in a town that exists in perpetual Christmas.

I confess I have not read the rest of the books in The Year-Round Christmas Mysteries series. When I picked this up, I didn’t realize it was the latest in a series. That didn’t stop my enjoyment, however - the book opened with short recaps for all characters so we knew exactly who they were, and what to expect. I appreciate that the recaps didn’t bog down the story, and instead got me up to speed. The clues were laid out very neatly, and I was able to identify what happened fairly early on in this book. Maybe the rest in the Year Round Christmas Mysteries series are similar, but I found that the story wasn’t as twisty as the Sherlock series. I can tell that this would be the perfect series to cozy up with at a fireplace during the Christmas season. I really enjoy Vicki Delaney mysteries, and will be continuing with this series.

I've read most of my way through Delany's Tea by the Sea series and absolutely loved them, so I snatched this one up as soon as I saw it! I loved this series just as much, and can't wait to continue reading through this authors whole backlist!

Vicki Delany is an excellent writer. Whether one of her serious stand alone novels or a cozy mystery, the plot is well thought out and the writing is crisp, In her most recent Year Round Christmas mystery, she does not disappoint. Shop owner Merry gets pulled into the death of a young woman in a rental property across the street from her apartment. With the aid of all the familiar Rudolph, NY residents, Merry leads the police to the perpetrator. This will be a fun Christmas read! NetGalley was kind enough to provide me with an ARC, but the opinion is my own.

#ODeadlyNight #NetGalley is the eighth book in this fun holiday cozy mystery series.
Merry loves celebrating Christmas, especially since she lives in Rudolph, NY.
Merry is preparing for the Santa Claus parade and asks her friend and landlord, Mabel, to help supervise the children on her float.
Mabel is excited to be part of the parade, but she's even more excited about the new neighbors moving in.
Unfortunately for Mabel the neighbors aren't very interested in being welcomed, and when she doesn't show up at the parade like planned, Merry becomes very concerned.
Things progress at a fast pacewhen Merry begins to investigate, determined not to let this spoil the holiday festivities.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for selecting me to read an advanced copy of this book.

I loved catching up with these fabulous characters and am looking forward to reading more in this series.

I am so glad that this series has been revived! In this 8th in the series, it is Christmas in Rudolph, NY, and Merry is working on a float for the annual Christmas parade. Her busybody neighbor is supposed to help but is a no-show because new neighbors are moving into a house across the street and she needs to be on the binoculars. I think this neighbor is tiresome, but she is the focus of this story. The mystery does not involve Merry directly, as previous mysteries have, but that doesn't stop Merry from working the case when murder raises its ugly head. A sub-thread of the neighboring town of Muddle Harbor (What a name!) wanting to improve itself is interesting. I hope that continues in future books. Thanks to NetGalley and Crooked Lane Books for providing an ARC.
