This book right here is something else all together. It is the second book in the Fear the Flames series. The yearning and sweet moments mixed with battles and banter. Some things are resolved and others fall apart. New alliances are formed and friendships created.

Letโ€™s swing around to the banter again because the banter between all the characters is fantastic. The quips and jokes that they throw at each other while being fiercely protective of each other is what family is all about. The sweet dragons and their playfulness had my heart happy but they also have their โ€œdonโ€™t mess with our rider or you will end up ๐Ÿ’€โ€ side that show how violent they can be.

I donโ€™t want to spoil the book by saying a lot but be prepared to have your heart fluttering in happiness and also have it completely destroyed, I may have cried at the endingโ€ฆ. There is no may have about itโ€ฆ. I definitely cried at the ending. What else can a girl ask from a book?! Well maybe we can ask for a little bit of spice sprinkled in! This book delivers it as a slow burn with all the angst and yearning that definitely catches fire.

I truly cannot wait for the third book but only after Olivia Rose Darling takes some time for herself, her family and her friends.

TW: Child abuse(past incidents), sometimes graphic violence and death

Thank you to Netgalley and Dell Romance for gifting me a copy of Wrath of the Dragons. All opinions and words are my own, given freely and honestly.

Now to address the 4.5 stars instead of a 5. The only thing that I noticed was a little but of a slow start. It took me a bit to get back into the story. But once I was in I was in again. I truly cannot wait for the third book but only after Olivia Rose Darling takes some time for herself, her family and her friends.

A fun sequel to be sure! We now see Elowyn's transition after Cayden saved her. But working with Demons isn't ever easy. Politics have taken over now, despite the fact that he will let the world burn for her. She's getting to know her dragons and they're both figuring out their new roles.

โ€œHowever, if I have the mercy of dying before you, whisper your name over my corpse and I will find a way to return to you, for you alone command my heart.โ€

SCREAMING because itโ€™s release day for Wrath of the Dragons!!! All the forehead kisses to itslivdarling because she gave everything and more. I was immediately entranced back into this world. I laugh, I swooned, and I balled my eyes out. This is the second book in the Fear the Flames series so I wonโ€™t be spoiling anything in this review.

โœจElowen is an fmc you canโ€™t help but love. We get to see her learn more about herself and figure out what she wants her life to be. She is fiery, sarcastic, hopeful, stabby, and protective. She comes for what is owed to her and stands on it.

โ€œFor you, my love, Iโ€™ll break the world.โ€

โœจCayden bb where do I start?? This book is FULL of his love declarations and I am down bad. The want and yearning from this man left me in a puddle. He is nothing but loving for her and yet nothing but rage and vengeance for those who wish to harm her. He is the blueprint.

Wrath of the Dragons has:
๐Ÿ’™ Arranged marriage
๐Ÿ‰ Dragons
๐Ÿ’™ Dual pov
๐Ÿ‰ Touch her and die
๐Ÿ’™ Possessive mmc
๐Ÿ‰ Found family
๐Ÿ’™ War / politics
๐Ÿ‰ โ€œMy wifeโ€

Ps, the artwork is by @kotikomori and itโ€™s AMAZING

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read the arc in exchange for an honest review! I absolutely love this world and the people in it. The love and loyalty that they share makes me want to jump into the pages and join them. I love the found family trope and it keeps giving and giving in this book. The political intrigue is reminiscent of game of thrones which I loved. The details were extremely thought out and the world building was ๐Ÿ‘Œ. It did start out slow but built up momentum. That ending! The ending had me emotional and on the edge of my seat. I devoured the second half of the book way faster than the first. It leaves you with more questions and sets up the perfect beginning of the next book.

My reviews are posted today. I posted on Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Instagram. Goodreads and Instagram are already up and Amazon and Barnes and Noble will be public soon!

Such an epic follow up book, but that ending almost killed me! I really felt the emotions of the characters through the found family and relationship between Elowen and Cayden...what a beautiful relationship and the yearning from Cayden really got me! He has so many incredible quotes throughout the book. And Elowen is just a fantastic representation of a strong woman with female rage, I absolutely love her! I loved having more of the dragons in this book and I could've used even more...maybe more in book 3? I did feel like the beginning was a bit slow and took me a bit to really feel connected, but the second half of the book was fantastic!

I missed this world!! I first read Fear the Flames when it was indie published in 2022 and again when it was traditionally published so I have been anxiously waiting this day for a long time!! Overall, I enjoyed this a lot but also had a few issues with things.

What I Loved:
- Elowen and Cayden are back and better than ever!! I truly love their banter so much and they convinced me as a couple in this one. Their conversations and banter felt more grown up in this one than the first which I appreciate. Also their spicy scenes๐Ÿคญ๐Ÿคญ
- Caydenโ€™s character personality SHINED in this one!! He stole the show for me in this book (sorry Elowen). I felt like sometimes I didnโ€™t fully know him in the first one, outside of superficial things, but I adored him in this. We got more background and depth to his personal story that I truly loved getting!! There were so many โ€œmy wifeโ€ moments and vulnerable moments about his feelings๐Ÿฅน
- The found family in this series continues to be one of its defining features. The relationships between Elowen, Cayden, Ryder, Finnian, and Saskia feels so real and like a true family. I loved that we got more character backstories and personalities in this one so we could really get to know these characters!

What I Didnโ€™t Love:
- World Building: This book definitely expands on the world building in this world but sometimes it was a bit confusing keeping track of things. Some of the writing was a bit receptive and there was a good amount of info-dumping in this. I would have liked the world building to be fleshed out a bit more and woven into the story in a way that was a bit more conducive to understand.
- Dragons: While it definitely delivers on the โ€œmore dragonsโ€ that many of us wanted, it was still a bit lackluster. Elowen has 5 dragons and I sometimes felt a bit like there were put in there just for the sake of saying there were dragons instead of progressing the plot, minus the ending chapters. However, I still LOVE the bond that Elowen has with her dragons and I can only imagine we still continue to see more of them in the future books!
- Not much happened in the first 50% of this book so I wish it was paced a bit better!

The ending was crazy and I genuinely had tears in my eyes๐Ÿ˜ญ I will absolutely be continuing the series because I need answers!! Despite my issues with it, Wrath of the Dragons was still an enjoyable read that I recommend you pick up if you enjoyed reading Fear the Flames!!

Thank you to Ballantine/Delacorte Press and Netgalley for the e-ARC in exchange for my review!!

4 stars because I am still really liking the story, but a lot of the writing problems I had with the first book remain. Scenes still felt choppy at times with weird or little to no transitions between them that would make me go back and wonder if I missed something. Otherwise the overall adventure, storytelling, and romance have me coming back for the next installment.

โ™พ๏ธ๐ŸŒŸ - olivia you have truly outdone yourself

there really isnโ€™t much i can say without adding spoilers so weโ€™re going to try to keep this short without hurting my own feelings!

I first read FtF back when she was indie published and immediately fell in love. she was working on wrath when she was picked up and became trad published. when I tell yall iโ€™ve been waiting for this book forEVER i mean it. and somehow this overtook my entire soul. people think that a lot of books tend to suffer from second book syndrome or that you shouldnโ€™t have to wait until the next books for a series to be good. i counter that by saying, this was BETTER then book one in every way imaginable. the world, the setting, the plot, the romance, the devastation. all of it.

i truly have never cried during a book more in my life. i donโ€™t think there was a single chapter i wasnโ€™t highlighting or crying, or both. this was the most beautiful and heartbreaking book. the found family? UNMATCHED. i loved them all so much and im so glad we got to see her and finny develop even closer. i loved seeing how everyone just fell into place and worked towards a better world and a better life while finding moments to enjoy each others presence! i loved how we even got some traveling overseas and how beautiful it was to see the dragons again ๐Ÿฅน i just loved this.

cayden, the demon king, veles, THE MAN THAT HE IS!!!! god he is so down bad for el and i was so down bad for HIM. he is the most sweet and kind human under all that rage and mean exterior. el was never afraid of him and always loved him for who he was. she accepted every part of him, as he did her. they are truly one of my favorite couples of all time. their love will transcend lifetimesโ€ฆprobably even EONS. the love they have for eachother is what i have always dreamed of and wanted for myself. and i love that they had to work with each other and actually communicate. it wasnโ€™t like they just said i love you in the middle of book one and called it a day. they WORKED FOR IT! the nicknames ๐Ÿ˜ญ siranta. my love. angel. I WAS A MESS.

thatโ€™s really all i can say without spoiling anything. i loved this book. i loved these characters. i love them all so much it actually hurts. grab your tissues and get ready to cry for 100% of this book!

thank you netgalley, olivia, and delacore for the earc ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฉถ

on the brink of war, the newly appointed leaders of Vareveth need to search for aid and gather allies. Elowen got back what was taken from her, but with it came inner conflictโ€”anxiety, betrayal, grief, and uncertainty. despite everything being thrown at them, a certain demon commander makes it his lifeโ€™s mission to make sure sheโ€™s not alone through it all. ๐Ÿ’š

this second book was filled with all my favorite elements from the first (but times like, 100). i think itโ€™s my fave of the two! the banter, the tension, the strategizing and war tactics, the found family and sense of camaraderie! but one that truly stands out is the absolute YEARNING.

first thing to note, we get a dual POV in book 2 and my gods, Olivia, you cooked with that. ๐Ÿ˜ฉ๐Ÿ”ฅ Cayden Veles is yearning personified. iโ€™m certain 95% of my highlights and notes are on what this man has said and done. i truly believe this book was Caydenโ€™s love letter to Elowen and it was so beautiful to see how their relationship evolved. they learn from one another, they ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผcommunicate๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ, and in the face of adversity, they had each other, always. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

i appreciated the exploration of magic and other powerful forces ๐Ÿฒ and how they both worked in tandem. Olivia gives such personality to these giant killing machines that it was easy to fall in love with them. my favorite is Sorin, thatโ€™s my bb. ๐Ÿฅน i also loved learning more about charactersโ€™ backstories, especially Caydenโ€™s! (again, bless the dual POV!)

overall, i enjoyed this book a ton and i canโ€™t wait for whatโ€™s to come, especially after that ending. giving heavy Hercules vibes. ๐Ÿ‘€ jaw dropped and heart absolutely shattered. BUT, iโ€™m so excited for book 3!!!

Mother. Of. Dragons.

This might have sliiight hints towards spoilers from book 1, but this is book 2 of the series so book 1 should already be read.

Elowyn might be one of my favorite female characters of all time. She is so deeply flawed by her past but still chooses to be a beacon light at every decision. She is so aware of her flaws too that itโ€™s refreshing. Some of her inner dialogue moments are actively conversations that I have had with myself about pushing someone away even though you just want to be held by them and be told everything is okay.

Cayden. The. GROVELING. The things this man says to Elowyn to show her his devotion are chefs kiss. The man wears a hair tie around his wrist on the off chance she ever needs one. If thereโ€™s one thing I love about men in books itโ€™s how they are utterly obsessed with their women

I never want to leave this world that Olivia has built.

Iโ€™ve read quite a bit of fantasy/romantasy books and sometimes they can feel like theyโ€™re all the same. Let me assure you that this book kept me on my toes and shocked me with unexpected twists and turns. I loved every minute of it.

Cayden Veles isโ€ฆ.. letโ€™s just say that youโ€™ll be wishing you were Elowen just to be the focus of his attention. I couldnโ€™t get enough of it!

There are so many great things about this book but here are a few of my favorites without giving way too much
-where is my wife?
-touch her and die
-found family
-insult him and die

Thank you so much NetGalley for this wonderful
ARC I enjoyed it so much and felt like everyone else should know how great of a book this is

woooow. okay, that wrecked me. At first, i thought the beginning of it was filler content, but as i read on, i realized that it was all pretty necessary for the plot. i bawled my eyes out, and that's how it endssss???? book 3 needs to come fast hahah.

finished this at 10:40 pst on july 28th so basically. happy release day!

thanks to netgalley for the advanced copy โ™ก

The ending!?! The last 30 pages or so actually tore me apart. That was so unexpected and I am speechless! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

I ADORE Cayden and Elowen. Cayden is absolutely in my top 3 favorite book men. The things that come out of his mouth are just chefs kiss ๐Ÿ˜š๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป. Elowen can handle her own and I love that. And the passion between them?? ADDICTING. I am so happy with the progress they made after that ending in Fear The Flames. I feel emotionally attached to not only those two, but all the main characters in this series as well. I always love a found family trope.

I do feel like the plot was slow paced and I had troubles really getting into the story at times. However, it was SO WORTH IT. Cayden, Elowen and even Finny have a lot of growth. I appreciate that we got to learn more about Cayden, Ryder and Saskias backstory in this book too. I cannot wait to see where this story leads. Iโ€™m going to miss my second favorite book couple until then. ๐Ÿ’”

Overall, I do recommend reading this if you enjoyed Fear The Flames. Expect slow-paced world building that leads to an action packed emotional rollercoaster!

irstly, BIG thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for the incredible opportunity to read and review this ARC.

OKAYYYYYY I HAVE TO ADMIT, this one GOT me.
I was torn with the first book, it was good but I felt there was so much potential that I couldn't see beyond that. This book? Everything I needed to be convinced I want to continue this story. It's giving House of Dragon mixed with Game of Thrones and I am so here for it. While there were a couple things here and there that I had some issues with, nothing big enough to deter me like before.
Simply the knockout book this series was needing!!

Loves
- CAYDEN.
He was quite literally the best book boyfriend, such a night and day from previous. His personality in this became SO much more clear, he had a depth that he was severely lacking in the first book. It made it impossible not to ADORE him, well that along with the "my wife" moments. I was THRILLED we got to know more of his background along with his feelings for Elowen rather than just his physical attraction to her. Who doesn't love that "hates everyone but her" vibes?! Also, the fan art of him is beyond any other MMC I've seen.

-THE BANTER!!
Elowen and Cayden are essentially together and they still flirted like they just met, I was sold. LOVED IT. It didn't feel as cheesy as the first.

- FOUND FAMILY MOMENTS
I truly enjoyed getting to experience dialogue that felt so natural and deep between found siblings. It felt so real and it was some of my favorite moments in the book.

- DEPTH WITH CHARACTERS.
I felt like in the first book I was wanting to know so much more and constantly was being left with more questions than answers. It was hard to buy in because the relationships and characters seemed so one demential. Hearing more of the characters back stories and being SHOWN their personalities rather than told, was such a game changer. Getting to know the dragons was pivotal in being drawn in, while they were a huge part of the overall story it was such a relief getting to actually know each of them. I started to feel like I actually cared about the characters and it made me that much more invested.

ICKS

-CONFUSION.
While this hard FAR more world building than the first book, it almost made it confusing at times, epesically with the kingdoms. I was constantly referencing the map and having to remember which countries they had claim to and which were inhibited by which crowns. It was instrumental to the plot but it became a bit overwhelming at times. In particular, the adding of magic in SOME kingdoms and different kinds was so hard to keep track of.

Overall, I was so impressed with this book. I can say without a doubt, if you were hesitant about the first book, this will clear ALL confusion.

Late upload! 2.75 stars!

This book gave us most of the romantasy majors: marriage of convenience (hehe), war, found family, god lore, & dual pov.

Things I liked:

I really enjoyed the dual pov from Elowen & Cayden. I'm really hoping to see some pov from our secondary characters that are really starting to develop (looking at you, Finnian). The push and pull between E & C is amaaazing, I love a hyper obsessed man & woman that makes him work for it. There is also such relationship growth between E & C that I wasn't expecting, only because I thought our FMC was going to hold strong in the beginning (thankful she didn't). I do think the male characters are well written, I do wish we got more substance from Elowen. I want to know more about her background, time with Ailliard and the training she went through, more about her fight for survival and personal struggles. Like, I get it: my girl loves her sweet pasteries, smut books, and those dragons. Give me more!!

Things for improvement:

Fights and warfare were well written, but I couldn't' help but feel like every scene I read had been done before (GoT mainly, Fourth Wing). Additionally, E being referred to the dragon queen so many times I thought at one point they were just going to start calling her Khaleesi. I totally understand the slow world building and not wanting to potentially overload your audience, but at times I feel that these kingdoms are so nondescript they are blurring together. I would love to get some more background: political views and motives, how the gods felt regarding these regions, and maybe some generalized characteristics of the residents.

I do feel that this book lacked some of the originality in writing style we saw in book 1 (Fear the Flames), but I do fear that is becoming the romantasy genre norm as of late. I am looking forward to, and will definitely be reading book 3 when the time comes! I need answers and I think this author has potential to give us a really good story!

I never knew a book could make me crave deep friendships with dragons and also want a man that would burn the world for you.. literally two in one combo ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ‰ This is the second book in the series, so Iโ€™ll keep it light and spoiler-free but just know: Iโ€™m feral for this series.

Unhinged review: IT HAS DRAGONS ๐Ÿ‰ AND A MAN WHO WORSHIPS HIS LADY SO HARD ๐Ÿ˜ฉ that after years of searching and finally having her, he stops at nothing for their revenge plans. That, my friends, is dedication. Commitment. Devotion. We love to see a woman get her revenge and a man back her up in a "let me slice open your enemies for ya" type of way.

Anywayyyy Cayden and Elowen give us everything in this book: the yearning, the tension, the love, the flirtatious banter we fell in love with in book one. I missed him so much!!!! (yes, Iโ€™m a bit obsessed with him, sue me ๐Ÿ˜…)

One of my favorite parts as a fan of the first book? The character development Elowen goes through, especially in her bond with her dragons ๐Ÿ‰ The friendship?? The loyalty?? The POWER?? Donโ€™t even get me started on Sorin AGHHHH Iโ€™m unwell.

And yes, the romance and spice are delicious, but what really got me was how both Cayden and Elowen start breaking down the walls they built in book one. We begin to truly understand their traumas, specially my poor boy Cayden ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ’” Not only that but their love and how it blossoms over time, we love it to see it duh.

The world expands beautifully in this book, and we even get a war. For me it was such an easy way to learn the kingdoms and their important characters, that as I reader I did appreciate the occasional repetition.

The way the book ended had me gasping, crying, and fully spiraling. So OBVIOUSLY I need book three immediately. BABYYYYYYY Iโ€™M SO READY ๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ”ฅ

I do want to say that the ending even though my emotions were all over the place, the knowledge we get thrown at the last minute confused me a bit and def made it more complex of what it needed to be, hopefully we get a better explanation in book 3. Another reason for my rating is that 544 pages is a lot so some of the yarning or slowburn was good but then other times it was too much for me :(

I still enjoyed and I hope you do too!

No one is sadder about this rating than I am. Fear the Flames is a 5-star read for me, and I have been waiting for this release for so long! This book took me so long to get through, and I am honestly questioning this series now because of the direction this book took.

From the first chapter, I knew it would be hard for me to get into it, even though it picks up right where FtF left off. The writing in this book was so choppy, repetitive, and tried wayyy too hard to be poetic and flowery to the point where I absolutely rolled my eyes multiple times at how cliche it was. The amount of info-dumping was insane, and the added world-building did not flow into the story good enough. Also, for it being named Wrath of the Dragons, I found it pretty lackluster in the dragon department. To me, 5 dragons is a lot to keep track of in the first place, and I also felt as if they were used too much as a tool rather than building on Elowen's relationship with them. It was also too long and could've been at least 200 pages shorter if we were just going to add in so many unnecessary scenes/dialogue.

As for our main characters, Elowen and Cayden. To me, Elowen was a little insufferable throughout the entirety of the book. Cayden carries this series for me, that man is BEAUTIFUL! Together, however, they were exhausting. We spent almost the first half of the book arguing about the same issues. Again, the writing was so repetitive and too flowery for me. Their inner dialogue killeddd me. We did a lot of telling and not showing, and this is something that really takes away from the reading experience and turns me off from a book.

Overall, not much happened and I wasted a lot of time reading this book. The ending was crazy, I will admit, but I hope the third book will fix this mess of a second book. Very disappointed, but it's okay!

Thank you Netgalley and Ballantine/Delacorte Press for the arc!

Wrath Of The Dragons by Olivia Rose Darling ๐Ÿ‰
~Fear The Flames sequel~

โ€œThe Queen who brought dragons back into the world and the King who conquered a kingdom to have her.โ€

Such a fun, romantic, exciting, suspenseful adventure! Loved diving back into this magical world again. Let me just say, THE YEARNING WAS YEARNING. I thought Kai pined in Powerless but Cayden is next level. Truly a head over heels, Iโ€™ll burn the world down for you type of guy. I highlighted so many quotes, itโ€™s actually unreal.

My only complaints revolve around the length (couldโ€™ve been shorter IMO) and the world building. It was a bit confusing at points (so many kingdoms to keep straight). Otherwise, I really loved this read!!

Thanks to NetGalley for the eARC!!

This book is absolutely enthralling! I canโ€™t wait for the next book! So many feelings in such a short amount of time. I wasnโ€™t really ready to read when I started so I picked it up and started several times, then it just grabbed my attention and I finished it in a day. Thank you net tally for the ARC!
