Ninas boyfriend Michael proposes to her. This gives Nina the wake up call that their relationship has become stale, and living together is not what she wants. She turns down the proposal, and to give the two of them some space, she goes and stays at her brothers luxury apartment. Her brother and his partner are away, and they asked Nina if she would call in their apartment, feed the cat, and generally make sure all was well while they were gone. She decides that instead of just visiting, she will stay there a while, and think about what she wants to do next.
One evening, there is a power outage, and Nina has no air conditioning and no TV or radio. She is bored so sits on the balcony admiring the views through binoculars. She notices a couple in the penthouse apartment having sexy fun on the balcony, and has difficulty putting down the binoculars to stop watching.
The next day, she hears that a young woman has gone missing, her description matches the woman who Nina saw on the balcony. Nina feels she should let the police know what she saw, this leads down a path of drama and intrigue, possibly ending in murder.
I read this book in one sitting, it was a tense psychological thriller, I could not wait to find out the ending. Every character has a secret, and I was wrong about all of them. A fantastic read, thank you for my early release copy.

The House Sitte follows Nina as her life takes a shocking turn when her boyfriend proposes to her. Now her love life’s in ruins, and suddenly she’s living rent-free in her brother’s bougie apartment while he’s off gallivanting across the globe. One night the power’s out and she picks up a pair of binoculars and spies on the neighbours. The couple in the penthouse across the way are glamorous and way too handsy. Nina hears a scream and the next day the woman’s missing. Everyone tells her to stay out of it. but she knows what she saw. And maybe she’s heartbroken and a little unhinged, but she’s not crazy. Obviously she becomes a full-time amateur detective to solve the mystery... is she getting too near to the truth?

This is an anxiety-heavy, cat-and-mouse kind of thriller with suspicious neighbors, too many secrets, and just enough twists to make you gasp out loud! It’s giving: chaotic sleuth, hot suspect, gaslighting, missing girls, red herrings. You’ll fall for every red herring. You’ll start side-eyeing your own building manager. And just when you think you’ve figured it out? Plot twist! It was Hannibal!! just kidding.

This book was great and I couldn’t put it down!!

Keri Beevis’ latest novel “The House Sitter” plunged me into a world of luxurious apartments and simmering secrets, a world Nina unexpectedly finds herself thrust into while cat-sitting for her brother at River Heights. Settling into his plush apartment, she seeks solace on the balcony, only to become unwittingly entangled in the lives of the penthouse residents. Her fascination soon transforms into something far more sinister when a woman goes missing, and Nina finds herself haunted by the suspicion that she knows the culprit.

I devoured this book, engrossed in the unfolding drama and completely absorbed by Keri's skilful storytelling. The narrative is populated with a diverse cast of characters, each harbouring their own secrets and motivations, leaving you constantly questioning their intentions and scrambling to piece together the truth. This book is a masterclass in suspense and a rollercoaster of twists!

After eagerly anticipating its release on NetGalley, I can confidently say this book was worth the wait – a thrilling and unforgettable read. Thank you to Keri Beevis, NetGalley and Boldwood for an ARC.

Nina is house-sitting for her brother in a fancy apartment when a power outage leaves her bored. She ends up spying with binoculars and sees a couple having fun on a balcony. The next day, she sees a news report about the woman being missing—and realises it’s the same one she saw the previous day. She tells the police, but when nothing seems to come of it, she decides to investigate on her own.

The story follows Nina as she tries to convince others that the man in the penthouse is involved, even as the police and neighbours doubt her. There are lots of side characters and red herrings, and the mystery is told from different perspectives, including the suspect’s which helps bring it to life.

While the twists are a bit obvious, and there are maybe too many characters with secrets, it’s still a fun, suspenseful read. The setting really adds to the tension and I will definitely be reading another book by this author.

Nina is house-sitting for her brother in a luxury apartment while he is out of the country for several weeks. One night, the power goes out, so she’s sitting out on the balcony that faces the other building of flats in the same complex. Out of sheer boredom, she picks up some binoculars and has a closer look inside the apartments. Rear Window, anyone? She observes a couple in the penthouse having a good time on their balcony before taking the show indoors, and she’s so embarrassed that she swears never to do that again. But she soon sees a report on a missing woman – the same one from the balcony. She tells the police and sees them visit the penthouse, but what she doesn’t see is the man being led away in handcuffs. What happened to the woman she saw, and will she ever be believed?

That’s pretty much the story – Nina trying to convince a number of different characters that she saw the missing woman and believes the penthouse owner to be involved in her disappearance. Even though everyone tells her to trust the police investigation, she doesn’t, and keeps digging for proof. There are plenty of neighbors who get caught up in her adventures, along with (several) other red herrings.

The reader sees from multiple perspectives, and even though the suspected perpetrator is one of them, nothing is revealed until the very end. I swear the author invented more characters just to have yet another person who laments about their secrets and how they have to keep them safe. It was a bit too obvious, though, trying to make the reader think it could be any number of people behind the crimes. But I still figured it out early on, as others probably will; you just have to pay attention to what’s not said as well as what is said.

It was a fun enough story that I think would play well visually on screen because of how important the location and setting are, especially the claustrophobic atmosphere that apartment complexes can get. And it definitely makes you second-guess taking a peek inside other people’s residences!

Nina breaks up with her long time partner and moves into her brother's flat until she can find her own place.
While she is there, she witnesses something in the block opposite and is suspicious when the woman she saw goes missing.
Meanwhile, the owner of the flat, Zac, returns.

I did enjoy this, despite it having Mills and Boons vibes in places.
Very suspenseful and twisty with lots of red herrings.

Nina agrees to housesit for her brother Dexter when he is away with his partner. One hot evening during a powercut, Nina is sitting out on the balcony with binoculars looking at the other residents. She is drawn to the penthouse and watches the man and woman there out on the balcony. A few days later she hears of the disappearance of a woman, matching the description of the woman she seen on the penthouse balcony. Does the man who owns the penthouse have anything to do with her disappearance? Was Nina the only one watching that night or was there someone else?
A page turning read

But what she sees is a man having sex with a woman on the balcony and later she goes missing. Determined to discover what's going on, Nina begins playing detective and what she uncovers will blow your mind!

Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this Advanced Reader’s Copy of The House Sitter by Keri Beevis due to be published May 22, 2025.

After Nina’s breakup, she agreed to house sit for her brother, not knowing his roommate, Zac, was coming home soon. Sitting on the balcony one evening, she spies a man across the street in the penthouse with a woman. When the woman ends up missing, Nina is determined to find out what happened. Did Julian, who owns the penthouse, cause her disappearance?

What a great cast of characters – from the cranky busybody, Leonard, to the jealous friend, Tabitha, to the nosy building manager, Dylan. Everyone is under suspicion when women go missing. I suspected everyone, but didn’t see the end coming at all – it was fantastic!

Spying on neighbours or being a good neighbour? This novel hs it all! I love a good deep dive into other fictional folk's lives, and Keri Beevis really does that with this one! It's such a clever novel and deals with themes I wasn't always expecting. I defintely didn't predict the end! Fabulous!

Well Keri Beevis went for this with all guns blazing and what an amazing read she has given us

I mean any book that has a good character called Mark and a Ragdoll ( Hannibal ) would get my thumbs up but this dark, taut, exciting yet at times scary full on thriller had me Wowing throughout…..and all mainly set in a fabulous new apartment block where neighbours can spy on each other ( enter Leonard Pickles the resident nebby nose ) I love a book set in ‘housing’ that has neighbours involved with each otheras the main characters……whether they want to be or not…talking of which our main character Nina is there by default and thinks she is in for carefree ‘looking after her brothers best friends flat’ time but pretty soon that ballon is burst and then, well then she thinks she has seen a lady in the flat opposite being ‘entertained’ by the owner….and then finds out she is missing

Its a full on ride of action and story within a story and leads to the best ending

100% enjoyably immersive reading and would say my favourite from this author ( altho like them all )

Netflixable for sure

She knows what she saw. But can she prove it?! After my relationship breaks down, I agree to house sit my brother Dexter's posh apartment whilst he’s out of the country. It will give me some much needed headspace. Sitting on the balcony one sweltering summers evening in the midst of a power cut, I'm given a secret window into the lives of the residents in the opposite building, and I see more than I should!! Fantastic read! This book had great suspense, murder, peeping toms, mysterious, intriguing, gaslighting, and some chilling moments! The storyline was very interesting! I highly recommend reading this book! Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

While house-sitting her brother's apartment, Nina has a good view into the building opposite. What she sees leads her to believe that her neighbour is responsible for the disappearance of a local woman. As she tries to solve the mystery she becomes a target herself.
This is a brilliantly plotted thriller with some chilling characters. I was glued to the page and couldn't put it down. The knockout twist at the end is stunning. I loved it.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an arc in exchange for an honest review.
