I wish the plot had more of a bang somewhere, though... From beginning to end it all felt very... languid and not in a good Mary Balogh-way.

A steamy, wonderfully crafted romance with disappointing side characters. Prudence's sisters treat her horribly in this novel, which is a somewhat surprising change from the previous two novels in the series where they don't seem to come across quite as badly. London doesn't really address it either, which felt lacking.

To me Julia London novels are synonymous with a great time. The writing, as always, is excellent and the characters always bring a smile to my face.

Prudence has been waiting- waiting for her life to start. All her sisters have been embroiled in some sort of scandal or another, but Prudence has always tried to walk the straight and narrow. But when she suddenly comes face to face with an American, she throws propriety to the wind and gets on a coach, following him. Roan is in Britain looking for his sister. Promised to the son of another promenant business company, he has no choice but to fetch her before the groom cuts loose. But, what was hopefully a short trip turns into a hunt, as she seems to never be where he expects her. Luckily, there's a beautiful English rose at his side. But how is he going to keep his own promises when she is so alluring?

I'm usually not a big fan of novels where there is a lot of back and forth with regard to travelling. However, here because the travelling is such an integral part of the novel it is a pleasure to read. The scene where they first squeese into the coach with all the other mismatched occupants is funny and helps set the light tone of the novel, which seemed to start very seriously.

A great read for any HR reader.
