Thank you so much to NetGalley, Skyhorse Publishing and Heresy Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Nothing Sacred is a bold and ambitious collection of 11 short stories that covers a range of topics from the darkly humorous to unabashedly uncomfortable.
I appreciate how much this anthology pushes the boundaries of what readers are comfortable, or accustomed to, reading. We’re confronted with perspectives in detail that are hardly common or ‘appropriate’, which leaves readers in that halfway place of feeling sympathy and empathy for characters that would have been easily dismissed or overlooked otherwise.
There is a dark, humorous and undeniably clever take in each of these stories that nudge us towards looking and thinking a little deeper, and make us question our ingrained assumptions. Many of them are quite open-ended without a satisfying conclusion — but it certainly feels intentional. We’re dropped into 11 different lives temporarily, whether we like it or not.
